– providing educational and psychological support to children worldwide who have lost parents 1-6-8 Hirakawa-cho, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo 102-8639, Japan ☎ +81 (3) 3221-0888 www.ashinaga.org Ashinaga Internship Program 2015 Internship Role Description: Uganda Team Ashinaga will be welcoming 20 selected students from 20 different countries in Sub-Saharan Africa to our facility in Kampala, Uganda, so that they can receive support and training for their applications to university. These students have been specifically chosen due to their need and potential for leadership. We are looking for a range of interns to support these students in terms of IELTS, essay writing, and SAT/ACT preparation, as well as an enriching curriculum that prepares them for life at university in another culture. This is an opportunity to made a big impact on the lives of these students and gain a wealth of valuable international experience. Duration: Either 2 months beginning on June 29th, or 4 months beginning on August 24th. Responsabilities: Provide tutoring, both individual and classroom, to our Ashinaga scholarship candidates. Provide research and advice to students as to the universities abroad that would be most suited to their interests, and then help with subsequent university applications. Formulate an engaging extra-curricular programme to encourage friendship among the students, as well as inspiration and self-confidence to become leaders for their home countries. Participate in other Ashinaga Uganda events and activites as required by other Ashinaga staff. Document the progress of the students and Ashinaga Uganda through a written blog. Ideal candidates: Candidates can be from any subject. Must be culturally sensitive to Ugandan society and our students from Sub-Saharan Africa. Must be flexible and able to work in dynamic and new environments. The ability to speak some French or Portuguese would also be highly advantageous. Experience of tutoring would be highly advantageous, especially with disadvantaged students or those from a background different to one’s own. Benefits: Return flights to Uganda, two meals a day, travel insurance, and work-related travel all covered by Ashinaga. A weekly stipend of 2500 Japanese Yen. Accommodation in our new dormitory facility in Kampala is provided. Please note that as Ashinaga is a non-profit organization this internship is otherwise unpaid, however we strive to ensure that finances and socioeconomic background are not a barrier to undertaking this internship.
