(A vision statement helps to define what we strive to be and
gives life to the mission statement.)
St. Landry Catholic Church Parish is the place where parishioners
can find a connection to God, and guidance for their life’s journey;
it is a spiritual home where this can become reality.
PARISH MISSION STATEMENT
(A mission statement describes who we are, what we do and whom
we serve.)
We, the family of St. Landry Catholic Church, exist to
continually serve through interaction and involvement imitating
the love and compassion of Jesus Christ.

PASTOR’S CORNER:
This week we begin the season of Lent on Ash Wednesday. Lent is a time when
we reflect on our struggles to follow The Way of Jesus in this life, and we watch
Jesus show us The Way to eternal life so that we can imitate it in our own lives.
I once again look forward to making this Lenten Journey with you.
Lent recognizes the reality that we still struggle in our earthly life despite the fact
that our Savior died and rose from the dead. Salvation is ours, but we still
struggle in this life to be rid of sin and to do good. We will have this struggle our
entire lives. The reason for this is that God will not impair our freedom and make
us follow Him. Our love of God and our neighbor is a choice, and a choice is no
choice if we are not free to make it. In our Fallen Nature, we struggle with
making the right choices. Scripture tells us that we are all sinners, and our sins
always affect us and others negatively. Sin produces our struggle in this life,
whether it be our own sins or the sins of others that affect us, directly or
indirectly.
During Lent, we will have many activities to help with our prayer, our relationship
with God. In this bulletin is an insert for your review containing the many
activities we have during the Lenten Season which provide opportunities for
prayer, study and fellowship. For families, some of these activities are perfect
for a Lenten family activity, such as the Stations of the Cross and the Soup and
Bread Dinner. Other things are more individual. It is up to you to seek to
examine your life and what is needed for increased "prayer, almsgiving and
fasting" in you or your family's life. Finally, please mark your calendar for
our Lenten Parish Mission, which will be given by Mr. Paul George, Campus
Minister at ULL and renowned speaker. The Mission will be on March 9, 10 and
11 at 6pm in the church. Mass will precede the Parish Mission presentations at
5:30pm for those who may not have had an opportunity to attend Mass during
the day.
We hope that these activities can help all of us grow closer to Jesus during the
season of Lent so that we can celebrate the joy of Easter more deeply. In
recognizing our own sinfulness during Lent, we better understand the gift of the
life and death of our Savior, so that in His Resurrection that we celebrate at
Easter we can better appreciate the gift of eternal life despite our
unworthiness. Hopefully, we will then be more open to the promptings of the
Holy Spirit to live better lives! Praise to our Lord Jesus Christ!!

READINGS FOR FAITH SHARING
15 February 2015
See page 113 in Missal
Reading I
Leviticus 13:1-2, 44-46
The leper will dwell apart, making an
abode outside the camp.
Psalm 32
“I turn to you, Lord, in time of trouble,
and you will fill me with the joy of
salvation.”
Reading II
1 Corinthians 10:31—11:1
Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ.
Gospel
Mark 1:40-45
The leprosy left him, and he was
made clean.
Today’s first reading and Gospel show us just
how Jesus moves beyond the expected to bring
about God’s reign. The first reading establishes the
standard procedure for dealing with lepers and their
Disease. Jesus reaches out and touches the leper,
breaking the barriers established by tradition and in
so doing proclaiming a new era of grace, healing,
and hope. How can we follow his example in
breaking down barriers today?

The retreat is a “silent one” which is physically
restful and spiritually enriching. You will find
time to relax, to reflect and to pray. There is a
daily rosary, daily Mass, and Stations of the
Cross. There are also several brief spiritual
talks with time allowed for meditation
afterwards. The Jesuits are available for
counseling and confession.
There is no fixed charge for a retreat. An
ANONYMOUS DONATION is asked on the last
day of the retreat.
VISITING THE SICK & INFIRMED
One of the corporal works of mercy is visiting
the sick and Jesus tells us in the Gospel that
whatever we do for the least of our brothers we
do for Him. As a church community, we follow
the Gospel directive to visit those who are
homebound or residents in a nursing home and
for them to regularly receive the Eucharist.
If you have a family member or friend in the
nursing home or who is confined to their
residence and they would like a visit, please call
the office (942-6552) so we can arrange to visit
them.

The Marianist Mission
Prayer For Peace
Lord Jesus, You so loved the world that You
chose to be born of Mary. You became one of us.
It was at Your birth that the angels announced
good news to the shepherds and proclaimed peace
on earth.
Grant us now the gift of peace that only You can
give. Let it touch the hearts of all peoples and
nations.
In a special way, O Lord, bring peace to the
troubled areas in our world. Bring back to their
homes and loved ones all those in the service of our
country.
Lord Jesus, You are Prince of Peace and Your
Mother is Queen of Peace. Let peace now reign in
our world and in our hearts.
AMEN
