written over one-dozen books. He
also has a weekly column in The
Lookout, a magazine printed by

Children’s Bible Drive
We are taking donations for Bibles. Each child will
be presented with a Bible to have as their own. We
will also have extras in the classroom for
visitors. The Bible that has been chosen is
interactive for the entire family. You can
see a sample of the Bibles in the foyer.

Movie Night
We will be having a Movie
Night Wednesday, February
4th, at 6:30, right after the
5:45 Cook-off. We will be
showing Acts of God by Bob Russell. This is
a video you do not want to miss. Please,
make it a point to be here for this touching
showing.
February 27, is a WOMEN ONLY Night of
Laughter at 6:30 with Christian Comedian,
Anita Renfro (on DVD). Anita, a former stay
at home mom and preachers wife, has a unique brand of estrogen
flavored musical comedy and blend of sass, edge and slightly
offbeat as she takes on ALL Things Female. The evening meal will
include Salad and a Potato Bar (Potatoes, greens, and dressings
provided). Please bring potato toppings, salad fixings and a favorite

Just a Thought
The biblical story of ancient Israel’s 40-year pilgrimage from Egypt
through desert territory to the Promised Land becomes a metaphor for
all of life to those who know it at all. We are all caught up in the story.
We are all on a journey.
Most of us, however, seem to prefer a life with minimal change.
We don’t like to be disturbed. So we carve out routines. The early-in-life
spectacular discoveries become customary and ordinary. What once
made us feel a flush of excitement comes to be normal and expected.
Life becomes dreary.
You know that dull man or woman who hasn’t entertained a new
thought in a decade, don’t you? She is critical of practically all that is for
the simple reason that things are not as they used to be. He doesn’t just
reminisce but positively pines for the past. No, he lets his memory make
the past far more glamorous than it ever was and lets it be known that
he resents that things have changed.
It may be as trivial as technology or as monumental as the nature
of morality. When people long for the “good old days” of their youth, I
sometimes ask – depending on their generation – if they would really
prefer life before penicillin or power steering, telephones or computers,
air conditioning or coronary bypass surgery. More seriously, I may ask if
they truly want to return to a time when women couldn’t vote,
segregation kept schools and churches monolithic, and children had
precious few legal protections against abuse.
Change is always a challenge and can be positively unsettling. But
it is also opportunity. It offers the chance to learn new things. It
introduces us to new people. It forces us to make decisions and choices
at a conscious level.
Whether individuals or families, corporations or churches, people
who set their feet (or minds) in concrete are hiding from reality. They
are even being untrue to their divine calling. God calls us to live in
confidence and hope, not fear. He asks us to believe – as did Abraham
and Sarah, Moses and the Israelites, Paul and Barnabas – that He is
already present in the places that are new and untested for us. He is
faithful to His people. We are on a journey with God.
You get an unwelcome diagnosis. The company transfers you. A
key person to your life dies. A dream fails to come true. Someone
disappoints you terribly. The temporary and passing nature of reality
confronts you directly.
Imagine you are in camp with Moses. The call to strike the tents
has been given. It is time to move ahead with joy that God is already
where we are going.

Palm Bay Christian Church welcomes Tom Smith as the newest addition to
the pastoral staff. Tom will start serving on February 1st as Associate
Minister. His primary responsibilities will be in the area of outreach and
administration.
Tom is a man passionate about serving God in ministry and will make a
great addition to the ministry team at PBCC.
Tom Smith was born in Springfield, Massachusetts, in
October of 1959. He graduated from Minnechaug Regional High School in
1978. He enlisted in the United States Navy and served as an Aircraft
Electrician until 1992.
Tom moved to Brevard County, Florida, were he drove commercial vehicles
throughout the United States. He is a former member of the U. S. Military
Vets Motorcycle Club, where he served as one of their Chaplains. He is
currently a Chaplain with Handlebar Ministries.
Tom and his wife, Sharon, of 29 years have been members of Palm Bay
Christian Church for five years. He has been serving as an Elder and a part of
the Security team, Handyman team, and Communion Meditation team. He
is a Pastor-in-training under the mentorship of the Senior Minister and is
our Motorcycle Chaplain.
Highlight on Ministry… The SONshine Ministry
The SONshine Ministry will meet on Tuesday, January 3rd at 10 a.m. in the church
conference room. We invite anyone who would like to be a part of this ministry to join
us at this time to learn what this ministry does and how easy it is to be a part of it. The
purpose and goal of the SONshine Ministry is to lift one another up, to encourage, and
to celebrate. We send cards to those needing encouragement due to sickness or loss of
a loved one and celebrate births, graduations and other major life transitions. We
encourage our church family to let us know when a card needs to be sent.
At this next meeting Denise Le will assume the leadership role as Linda Crews steps
away for a little break. Linda would like to thank all the people who have worked on
this special ministry: Denise Le, Pam Plymale, Norma Crowder , Diane Koons, Charlie
Taylor, Kathy Seehaus, Mike Mullaney, Lynn Ozment, Helen Gamache, Allison Mosquera
and Pam Smith.

ATTENTION, CHURCH FAMILY!
HOSTING EVENTS AT PBCC: Please, if you are
interested in hosting an event, as a ministry
leader, or a member, check our events calendar
online or in the Newsletter as well as with the
office! You will be required to fill out a form to
request use of the building (see below) as well.
This will allow all to run smoothly.
BUILDING AND EQUIPMENT USE:
Anyone
requesting use of any room (chapel side or FLC
side) or would like to borrow equipment, tables,
chairs, etc…, must fill out a request form available through the church office. Please fill
out and return these forms to Todd Smith
preferably no later than 2 weeks prior to date
needed. Last minute requests may be addressed
as well with Todd.
If you are responsible for the use and security
of the building for any events, Please make sure
the building and equipment are secured. Be
sure the lights and air conditioners are off. Be
sure the doors are locked and latched (give the
door a pull) and the alarm is set.
CHURCH VISITS: Anyone visiting the church
building during business hours, please stop by
the office and let Melissa know you will be in
the building. She would very much appreciate
this courtesy.

Lost and Found
Don’t forget that there is a Lost and
Found box in the lobby. If you find
something that’s not yours and don’t
know who’s it is, drop it in! If you have
lost something recently, be sure to check
there before replacing it!
Every so often this box gets full and we
give what’s there to charity. We do this
at random intervals, so please be sure to
check for your items as soon as possible.
Bulletin Board
Be sure to check the bulletin board in
the lobby often for current happenings
and events going on outside the church.
Sometimes there may be an event listed
that we haven’t placed in the bulletin,
but you may find it fun or helpful! These
boards are kept up-to-date with new
items placed on it weekly. Check it out!
