Ash Wednesday Masses provide a solemn reminder of all our limits and the church’s call to conversion. Please note that
our collections on Ash Wednesday will be for the Church in Central and Eastern Europe. It supports Catholic
organizations that provide affordable shelter, train seminarians and provide pastoral care and catechesis in a region that still
struggles from the effects of Soviet rule. Your donations help to restore the Church and build the future. More information
can be found at www.usccb.org (search “Church in Central and Eastern Europe”).
The Lenten disciplines of Prayer, Fasting & Almsgiving are given as a gift to us by the Church. They are ways of focusing
less on ourselves and more on others and their needs. There will be several evening Masses during the weeks of Lent to
make it possible for more people to participate. There are Stations of the Cross, Anointing of the Sick and Penance
Services. Certainly personal prayer and scripture reading are also encouraged. Fasting is willingly giving up some food in
order to be more generous to those without enough. Being hungry ourselves may stir us to advocate for public policies that
make sure the least in our midst and overseas have at least the basics. Please note the traditional regulations on fasting and
abstinence in this bulletin. Almsgiving can take many forms. Rice Bowls are helpful reminders. During Lent, we have
more national collections: Ash Wednesday—The Church in Central and Eastern Europe; Feb. 21/22—Black & Indian
Missions; March 14/15--Catholic Relief Services; April 3—Holy Land. Finally, Lent is not all about giving things up; we
should look for ways to give our time and talents for the benefit of others, especially the poor.
Next weekend we have a different Mass schedule due to Confirmation on Saturday. Please pray for our Confirmation
Candidates this week.

of various things you can do to strengthen your relationship with Christ during the season of Lent.
Please note all the opportunities for daily Mass, Stations of the Cross, the Sacrament of Reconciliation,
the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick, Holy Week Schedule, enrichment & outreach. There is also
a Lenten calendar which gives a reflection for each day that can be done personally and/or with your
family. Please save this sheet and place it somewhere for daily references. May we enter this season
with open hearts and minds and ask Christ to transform our lives.

Guidelines for Fast and Abstinence During Lent
Abstinence is a penitential practice consisting of refraining from the consumption of
meat and is to be observed by all Catholics who are 14 years of age and older. Ash
Wednesday, Good Friday and the Fridays during Lent are days of abstinence. Pastors
and parents are encouraged to see that children who are not bound by the obligation to
fast and abstain are led to appreciate an authentic sense or penance.
Fast & Abstinence: In addition to abstinence, fasting is to be observed by all
Catholics between the ages of 18-59 (inclusive). On days of fasting, one full meal is
allowed. Two smaller meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according
to ones needs, but together they should not equal one full meal. Eating between meals
is not permitted, but liquids are allowed. Note: if a person is unable to observe the
above regulations due to ill health or other serious reason, they are urged to practice
other forms of self-denial that are suitable for their condition. Ash Wednesday and
Good Friday during Lent are the days of fasting and abstinence.
LENT ENRICHMENT SESSIONS: The season of Lent invites us to pray, fast and give alms. As an AFC opportunities are offered
for personal renewal and enrichment. It is up to each of us to commit ourselves to do a few “extra” things during Lent in order that
God becomes more central in our life. Please note the enrichment sessions being offered after evening Masses or Stations and plan to
attend a few of them. All the sessions fit the season of Lent so well. The segments, “Catching Fire, Becoming Flame”, are presented
by Fr. Albert Haase, a Franciscan priest who is entertaining and very practical with the ideas he offers. Each session lasts about 25 –
30 minutes.

MARCH FOOD DRIVE: We are beginning to collect for the Area Food Shelves who greatly benefit from our donations of food and
money during the month of March. A social will be held the weekend of Feb. 28 – March 1 to benefit the area food shelves. Please
take a few minutes to share fellowship and offer a contribution to the food shelves which greatly rely on our generosity. Please note
the statistics of the past year for our area food shelves and note the many people who are helped. Please be generous and participate in

CHOIR FOR CHRISM MASS: The Chrism Mass is scheduled for March 26, 7:00 p.m., at St. Mary’s Church in Willmar.
All who would like to sing for this liturgy are invited to do so. There are two rehearsals: Sunday, March 22, 2:00 p.m. and Thursday,

PRAYER, FASTING & ALMSGIVING: A Lenten Experience with the Sisters from the Diocese of New Ulm for girls in Junior
and Senior High – Saturday, February 28, 2015, 10am-2:30pm at St. Mary’s Church, 220 S 10th St, Bird Island, MN 55310. The time
will be spent looking at the three calls that all of us have for the season for Lent. There will also be time to get to know more about

MESSAGE FROM SISTER MARY ANN: Because we believe that no child should ever have to call the family car “home” and
that all human persons deserve safe, decent and affordable housing we are being asked to team up with Partners of Affordable
Housing to participate in their third annual “Pedal Past Poverty” on Saturday, Feb. 28, at the YMCA in Mankato. Thanks to those

The 2015 Bishop Lucker Lecture and Diocesan Distinguished Service Award Ceremony will take place Monday, March 9, 2015, 7
p.m. at the Church of St. Catherine in Redwood Falls. Our featured speaker will be Fr. Raymond de Souza. His talk will be on “The
Future of Religious Liberty in America.” Fr. de Souza was ordained a Catholic priest on July 20, 2002, for the Archdiocese of
Kingston, Ontario. He currently serves as chaplain at Newman House, the Roman Catholic chaplaincy at Queen’s University. He is
the pastor of Sacred Heart of Mary Parish on Wolfe Island where he currently lives. Fr. de Souza teaches at Queen’s in the Faculty of
Education and the Economics Department. He is a longstanding weekly columnist for the National Post, and contributes a weekly
column to The CatholicRegister, Canada’s largest Catholic newspaper. He is the editor-in-chief of Convivium, a magazine examining
the role of faith in our common life. All adult parishioners are invited free of charge. A social time will follow the ceremony and the
presentation.

PARISH VISITORS: We are in need of a couple people to be a parish visitor for someone who is homebound or in a care facility.
You would be a link for someone from your parish. Ordinarily a half-hour visit happens each month. Those who are visited love this
experience and they feel so connected to their parish. Please consider being a parish visitor. If interested pleae contact S. Mary Ann
or Fr. Jeff.
Sacred Heart Administrative Finance Council met on Jan. 22, 2015. We opened with a prayer and short reading.
Those in attendance were: Rob Senkyr, Bob Fox, Lori Hacker, John Robinson, Tim Sullivan, Vic Serbus and Father Jeff.
Minutes from the last meeting were reviewed and approved unanimously with no corrections or additions. There were no additions
made to the agenda.
Reviewed the financial reports – all ok.
Maintenance items: We need to let Pat Serbus know when something arrives by UPS/FedEx, etc. Example: New rug/mat had arrived
but sat in the coatroom for over a month.
Cemetery Report: Need to get trees cut down that we had talked about earlier. No other concerns in that area.
Business items:
Parish Planning Meeting is set for Feb. 8 th after the 10:15 mass and potluck meal – power point will be shown along with timed
discussion questions.
Budget – ok
Shared Rectory Expense Policy was reviewed.
DMA - $2,111.00 back to our parish – used for church flooring. We decided not to open a separate savings account.
APC member ideas – think about new member recommendations and will also put in the bulletin.
Longest married couple - ?
Yearly church cleaning – undecided.
Confirmation: Set for Feb. 21st in Gibbon.
Bills from Deb Dummer – submitted and paid.

Thanks to all who joined us at our Catholic United Financial Matching-Grant breakfast & raffle. We appreciated all who donated
prizes & food, purchased raffle tickets and all who helped. Special thanks to the parish youth and their parents who set up, bought
groceries, worked and also helped put everything back into place. With everyone working together, we had another successful fund

St. Willibrord's Council of CUF
ADULT CHOIR will sing for Ash Wednesday Mass on Wednesday, February 18 th, meeting to practice in the church social hall at
5:15 p.m. (Mass is at 6 p.m.). New Members welcome!
ADULT CHOIR practice immediately following the 10:15 Mass on Sunday, February 15 th. Practice is for Confirmation, which will
be Saturday, February 21st, at St.Willibrord’s, at 4 p.m.
CCW: You are invited to the 2015 World Day of Prayer service scheduled for Friday, March 6th at First Lutheran Church, Lafayette.
The alternate date is Friday, March 13th. Coffee begins at 9:00 a.m. and service begins at 10:00 a.m. The service is written by WDP
Bahamas. Jesus said "Do You Understand What I Have Done for You?" Service volunteers and/or readers to assist with the service
are needed. Please contact Kathy Bruns at 507-834-6930 by February 6th if you would be able to assist with the service-it would be
great if our parish CCW could participate.
SUNDAY SCHOOL Preschool – 2nd grade are welcome to come to Sunday School during Mass. Please come to the social hall
before Mass and we will take the Sunday readings “little people style” and then bring them up to church to join their parents after the
homily.
Caps of Love: Thank you all for saving caps for this CCW project, which helps raise money to buy wheelchairs for disabled
children. Please make sure the caps are plastic, clean and that all paper is removed from the outside and inside of caps. Do not put
plastic pumps, plastic ties or any other plastic items in basket. Put all water bottle caps in a separate bags. This will make it easier for
me to get these items ready to ship.
