Spring Program Registration and Membership Renewal
Registration for Spring Programs and Membership Renewal will take place on Tuesday April 7th,
Wednesday April 8th and Thursday April 9th in Rooms 142/147. The Day Centre Staff would like
to stress the importance of coming to register between 10am-2pm on these days to help guarantee a
spot in your desired courses. If you are unable to make it to the Centre during these times, you
may register over the phone with a credit card from the comfort of your own home. You may
also send a friend to register and pay on your behalf.
Following the designated program registration period, many courses may be cancelled due to low enrollment. If
you decide to wait until the week after the registration period, a course that appealed to you may have been
cancelled but wouldn’t have been, had we known you were interested!
If you must wait until the week after to register, please be prepared for lengthy wait times at the Front Desk as
there is no designated staff member to take your registration and all enrollments must be processed by the
receptionist who will be busy answering calls and assisting other members with day to day inquiries.
Thanks for your cooperation! We hope to see you on April 7th, 8th & 9th!

Are you drinking enough water?
There are many reasons why you should be:
ATTENTION!
Tai Chi and Qigong Exercise Class
With Instructors Andrew Chan and Lau Ching Yee
Qigong Exercise is based on a discipline of exercise that has its origin traced back a
thousand years. It is interesting to note that drawings of figures performing the Qigong
exercise (Eight Segments of Treasure), were found by the Chinese in an ancient grave.
This form of exercise is especially suitable for seniors and is very popular in China.
It is a series of gentle stretching and movements and is very easy to learn.
Put a little ‘Spring’ in your step, by joining a Physical Activity
or Dance class at The Good Companions!
The Good Companions can help you keep physically active this Spring in a
fun and friendly facility. We offer many Fitness and
Recreational Dance Classes taught by certified fitness and dance
professionals at very reasonable rates.
Please refer to your Spring Program Guide 2015 for more details.

Volunteer Recognition Event •1955 TGC Yearbook!
Friday, April 17th 2015 • 11:30-1:30pm • Registration opens at 10:30am
Join us for our annual volunteer recognition party including
entertainment and a complimentary lunch. Years of Service awards
will be handed out to our long-time volunteers. This is an invitationonly event. So dig out your letterman jackets, poodle skirts and
saddle/dancing shoes and join us in this celebration!
Volunteer Profiles
In order to showcase some of our existing volunteers and help you get to know what they are up to at the
Centre, Volunteer Services has implemented a “Monthly Volunteer Profile” section in the first floor hallway,
just outside of the Volunteer Lounge.
Each month, a volunteer from the Day Centre (which includes Food Services and Admin volunteers) and
Community Support Services will be highlighted with their photo and a brief write-up about their duties.
Each volunteer that is selected will receive a free lunch voucher to our dining room. On the first of the month,
two names are randomly selected by the Volunteer Services Coordinator to be featured for the following
month. As long as the individual is an active volunteer, they will automatically be entered in the draw.
Winners will be notified in order to consent to being featured in the hallway as well as the next bulletin.
Volunteers may only be featured once per year.
Congratulations to our winners this winter!

caskets and urns in one plot? Is scattering of ashes
permitted? Can I sell/buy plots privately? Is an urn required?
What is a rental casket? What is a niche? What kind of costs
can I expect? Should I pre-pay or let my life insurance take
care of things? Practical information that you can use to
make wise decisions. Death is a natural part of life: either
plan for it yourself now, or someone else will have to take
care of things later. How do you want to be remembered?
All seminars are free of charge. Members and non-members
are welcome and encouraged to attend. Space is limited.
Please register at Front Reception or call 613-236-0428.

Making Your Medications Work for You
Presented by Ben Gunter, Bsc. Phm.
Date/Time: TBA - Last week of April
(See wall board on Main Hallway for
updates)
You know you are taking the right medication - your doctor
prescribed it to you. But it can be hard to remember what
each drug is for, when you should take it, and how you
should take it (food X medication). Join Ben Gunter in this
informal and very informative session and learn how to
manage your medication. Ben will lead a very interactive
discussion around how pharmacists can help (including
their expanded scope of practice). A Q&A will be available
during this interactive presentation.

Autograph and Reading Session: Never Stop Dreaming
Presented by Klaus Ruhland, Member of TGC
Tuesday, May 12th
10:30am-11:30am
Room 142/147
(Across from the Dining Area)
“To live a life fully is an act of
courage. To write about it for others to read is an act of
generosity. Klaus Ruhland’s memoir is a brave and big-hearted
gift. His story is one of challenge, transformations and
determination. He takes us from pre-war Germany to cold-war
Canada and beyond. He moves from the personal to the
political with ease. But most of all he reminds his readers that a
mysterious human spirit flickers brightly, even at the most
difficult moments of a life story. This is a book written with
openness and to be read with gratitude.”
Kevin Burns-Ottawa,ON

As you all might be aware, The Good Companions is a LGBTQ
friendly/safe environment. Our policy alone is not enough to
create an environment where Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual and
Transgender people feel included. We want to help our members,
volunteers and the community to understand and respect sexual
orientation and gender expression. Plan to attend this very
informative and exciting lecture where Joanne and Shayne will
share with us their experiences, bring their expertise and help us
“To Make Gender Identity and Gender Expression a Human Right
and to respect the needs and comfort levels of family and
co-workers.”
