Forthcoming London First Events
London First runs a wide range of events – from large-scale networking events, which bring together senior
politicians and business leaders, to small-scale consultations which engage members and stakeholders in
our policy development.
For each event, we create a tailored invitation list based on our knowledge of the specific interests of
individual members and the seniority of the guest speakers. Around six times a year, we hold events that
are restricted to partners only.

London First Greenbelt Report
London is a 21st century world city widely regarded as as one the most dynamic places to live and work.
But it is a city spatially constrained by the Victorian inspired concept of the greenbelt, first introduced in the
1930s.
Join us for the launch of a fascinating new report which explores what type and quality of land is actually
contained in London's greenbelt and how some of this land could be used to help tackle London's housing
crisis.
Presentations will be given by the report's authors Barney Stringer, Quod, Professor Paul Cheshire, LSE
and Jonathan Seager, London First followed by a Q&A with members.

Dinner with Clive Betts MP, Chairman of the Communities and Local Government
Select Committee
Following the recent Inquiry into the operation of the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF), this
timely dinner will provide attendees with an opportunity to discuss the recommendations made by the
Select Committee. The Inquiry focused on how the NPPF has operated over the last two years on housing
delivery, town centre management and the delivery of energy infrastructure. The recommendations are not
expected to seek wholesale changes to the NPPF but the specified areas of policy under review could have
a major impact on changes on national planning policy if the findings are accepted by the Government.

Tackling Terrorism: The Lessons from Sydney and Paris
The events in Australia and France have been sharp reminders of the nature of today’s terrorist threat.
However, the end of 2014 and start of 2015 have been particularly violent months with terrorist attacks
worldwide including an assault on the Canadian Parliament and a foiled plot in Belgium. What do these
recent incidents tell us? It is therefore timely that business takes stock and reviews its plans where
appropriate. At this briefing, a range of experts will offer their thoughts on the latest terrorist trends and
suggest ways that we should prepare for a possible attack nearer home.
Speakers:
Detective Chief Superintendent Scott Wilson, National Co-ordinator of PROTECT & PREPARE,
National Counter Terrorism Policing HQ, ACPO Terrorism & Allied Matters
Professor Anthony Glees, Director, Centre for Security and Intelligence Studies, The University of
Buckingham.

London’s Global Context: Drinks reception and panel debate Scaling Up London: Can we build global businesses from London?
London’s start-up scene is the most vibrant in Europe and is driving productivity across many sectors.
London is also performing well on commercialisation of research, with at least four world class universities
in the region being the key drivers. But in absolute terms, investment in start-ups still lags behind New York
City and Silicon Valley, and there is evidence London doesn’t successfully convert its start-up success into
high growth. Meanwhile, in the tech sector London often loses companies to the US, with its more tech
savvy finance markets and larger domestic market. The panel at this event will debate the barriers and
challenges to scaling-up high growth companies in London into global businesses.
