LETTER FROM BISHOP BOSCO
Dear Abbot Rocky,
I AM CATHOLIC, I AM ALIVE
Your bulletin "Reach Out"
of August-October 2014 has
reported the activities of
three communities:
Jesus Christ the son of God,
whose born for you and me
He came to bring the good news,
who sent to set us free
The blind the deaf the lame the dumb
whose power is meant to see
He gave his life upon the cross,
eternal life the key
1. St. Lawrence Community had an
outreach programme to the Jyoti Aids Care
Centre, Kalamboli. They also reported
the celebrations of their Community Feast
in which students from the X, XII,
Engineering, MBA and B.Ed were
felicitated. Seven little stars then put up a
couple of songs. There were also dance
performances and the elders led by Alice
Aunty and her team of nightingales sang
some popular songs. The writer declared
it to be "not only a beautiful event but also
a wonderfully organized one."
Congratulations to the organizers.
He broke the bread & shared the wine
before his agony
We share the body and the blood,
in his memory
To make his message known,
is our responsibility
So here we are to pledge our lives,

CONFIRMATION RETREAT Testimonies
- Jovita Irudayaraj,
Sec. 3.
On 29th August, we had
gone for retreat to Bandra.
Our sessions consisted of
various topics such as 'Power
of Love', 'Self – Esteem', 'Self
–Transformation' , 'Fullness of Life' and
others. Through these sessions, I learnt
how to boost my self – esteem to transform
myself into a good human being; and I will
never destroy it and live my life to the
fullest.
- Justin Pereira, sec. 8
We, the students of the
current confirmation batch,
were taken for the retreat to
DPC,Bandra. It was a
wonderful experience for me as I was with
my friends. The retreat was conducted by
Fr. Allwyn and Mr. Harry Menezes.
One of the sessions was on addiction,
which changed me. I got to know that
addiction to drugs or addiction to internet
are not the only addictions; but anger,
hatred, un-forgiveness are also addictions.
In the session on 'Motto for Life', I learnt This session motivated me and I decided to
that we should always have a motto or an
change as I get angry fast. After this retreat

Harry Sir, who conducted the whole retreat,
were inspiring. I would like to say a big
thanks to my teachers, animators, and Fr.
Moses for taking us to such a beautiful
retreat.
I am writing this testimony so that others
also attend such a retreat, as it is very
motivating and inspiring. They should not
take it as a compulsion but should attend
whole-heartedly.
Fr. Allwyn
- Winston Martin, sec.9
At the beginning of the
retreat, I didn't have an
inkling as to what exactly
happens at a retreat. Since
this was my first one, I
thought it would be a boring
3 day retreat and was not
really keen on attending. The retreat turned
out to be a life changing experience. The
talk on self esteem was most touching as it
tackled the causes and effects of low self
esteem and how high self esteem can boost
one's personality. The best way to have high
self esteem is to have a positive attitude
and have an "I THINK, I CAN ATTITUDE”

compiled by Sharon Rodrigues and Sister
Natty Lopez (DHM) with the help of Health
Promotion Trust Team of the Archdiocese of
Bombay; a brainchild of Fr. Rocky Banz.
The program commenced with a Prayer
Service followed by an informative talk and
presentation by Advocates Cassandra
Fernandes and Joanita Britto from
International Justice Mission, on Human
Trafficking, and screening of a film by the
United Nations Organization showing
examples from India. It was shocking to see
several women and children who were
unknowingly roped into this big business
and then abducted, molested and tortured.
The children actively participated in the
interactive session.
We had a program on “High on Life” for
boys and “Beautiful Women” for girls. The
best boys and girls selected by their
teachers were awarded certificates. Sylvia
Vincent, Neil Pinto, Melton Suares &
Lennard D'souza from our Parish, received
certificates from Bishop Agnelo.
Everyone pledged to stand up against
violence in any form and take all
precautions for their safety. It was a
morning well spent and educative too.

Keep Your Faith, & Your Faith Will Keep You.
The Church, for her growth and
strengthening of core values, has a number of
associations which enable people to come
together and experience Christ's love
amongst each other in whatever initiatives
they take up. The CCR (Catholic Charismatic
Renewal) with their Mission – DIE
(DISCIPLESHIP, INTERCESSION,
EVANGELIZATION) has been working to
nurture the desire to know God and
experience His love for us. One such initiative
is the Youth Discipleship Program, which
was conducted once a month, from July to
November 2014.
spiritual foundation, and how knowing and
loving God isn't boring or plain ritualistic.
We had our ups and downs during this
journey where we sometimes failed to keep
our promises because of laziness, giving
priority to unnecessary things. But, we never
lost hope because nothing can separate us
from the love of God! Building a relationship
with Him means we too have to play our part,
and not just ask Him for favours when the
need arises.
Apart from all the other things we learnt,
these are the 3 D's of being a true Disciple:
The Discipleship Program had 130 - Decision (to be a mere fan or a follower),

VACATION BIBLE JOY - 27 Oct.-1 Nov. 2014
Forty children attended the Vacation Bible
Joy Camp which was conducted by the Youth
group of our parish from 27th Oct to 1st
Nov'14. The Theme this year was “Women of
Strength in the Bible”.
Each day began with prayer followed by the
interactive sessions in which we learnt the
unique qualities of various women in the
Bible and also learnt a verse from the bible

10 TIPS by Pope FRANCIS
1. Don't gossip.
It's one of our hobbies. For
Francis, it's also one of the
most evil activities. The
Catholic leader denounces
gossip as “murder.”
He feels so strongly about it.
He says when we gossip, we “are doing what
Judas did,” and “begin to tear the other
person to pieces.”
“Every time we judge our brother in our
hearts or worse when we speak badly of them
with others, we are murdering Christians,”
Francis says. “There is no such thing as
innocent slander.”
2. Finish your meals.
No leftovers, please.
Nearly 870 million people suffer from
chronic malnutrition. The Pope says: “We
should all remember... that throwing food
away is like stealing from the tables of the
poor, the hungry! I encourage everyone to
reflect on the problem of thrown away and
wasted food to identify ways and means that,
by seriously addressing this issue, are a
vehicle of solidarity and sharing with the
needy.”
3. Make time for others.
Tending to 1.2 billion members, Francis
seems too busy for anything else.
That is, until he calls up strangers. Or
entertains a random biker Or sends a
handwritten letter to a Jesuit he has never
met.
Martin says: “If the Pope can find time to be
kind to others, if he can pause to say thank
you, if he can take a moment to make
someone feel appreciated, then so can I. So
can we.”
4. Choose the 'more humble' purchase.
Take it from the head of state who rides a
29-year-old Renault.
He warns against luxurious lives that seek
“the joy of the world in the latest smartphone,
the fastest car.” “Cars are necessary,” he
says, “but take a more humble one. Think of
how many children die of hunger and
dedicate the savings to them.”
The Pope preaches against materialism.
“Certainly, possessions, money, and power
can give a momentary thrill, the illusion of
being happy, but they end up possessing us
and making us always want to have more,
never satisfied. 'Put on Christ' in your life,
place your trust in him, and you will never be
disappointed!”
5. Meet the poor 'in the flesh.'
Sure, we donate to charity. But this is not
enough for Francis. Commitment to the poor,
he says, must be “person to person, in the
flesh.” “It is not enough to mediate this
commitment through institutions, which
obviously help because they have a
multiplying effect, but that is not enough.
They do not excuse us from our establishing
personal contact with the needy. The sick
must be cared for, even when we find them
repulsive and repugnant. Those in prison
must be visited.”
6. Stop judging others.
In the same way he denounces gossip,
Francis condemns prejudice.
He reminds “intolerant” Catholics, for one,
to respect atheists. “If we, each doing our own
part, if we do good to others, if we meet there,
doing good, and we go slowly, gently, little by
little, we will make that culture of encounter:
we need that so much. We must meet one
another doing good.”
He also says of gays: “If someone is gay and
seeks the Lord with good will, who am I to
judge?” Francis urges us “to keep watch over
ourselves.” “Let us not forget that hatred,
envy, and pride defile our lives!”
7. Befriend those who disagree.
What can we do to our worst critics?
Francis calls it a “culture of encounter.”
He says : “When leaders in various fields
ask me for advice, my response is always
the same: dialogue, dialogue, dialogue. It is
the only way for individuals, families, and
societies to grow, the only way for the life of
peoples to progress, along with the culture
of encounter, a culture in which all have
something good to give and all can receive
something good in return. Others always
have something to give me, if we know how
to approach them in a spirit of openness
and without prejudice.”
8. Make commitments such as marriage.
Don't be afraid to say “forever.” Francis
advises the youth, not to fear marriage. The
Pope says: “Today, there are those who say
that marriage is out of fashion; in a culture of
relativism and the ephemeral, many preach
the importance of 'enjoying' the moment.
They say that it is not worth making a life-

Families decorated their homes and prayed
together to enrich their spiritual lives. There
were refreshments provided by the families
post Rosary & Novena. This devotion gave us
a new opportunity to interact with one
another for bonding and fellowship as one Big
Family.
The feast Mass celebrated at the residence
of Mr. Joseph Kurian in Army
Colony, was celebrated by Rev.
Fr. Moses, followed by High
Tea. The occasion gave us a
feeling of completeness after 9
days of Rosary and Novena.
