few years; this wonder plant, hemp, has been a
part of human life and agriculture for millennia.”
For those who want to do more research (and see
interesting photos) on this fascinating subject,
which will come up during our federal election

The newest book club still has room for a few
more members. We meet once per month. We
welcome members who are only here seasonally.

Dinner Club: New members welcome. On the
second Tuesday of each month a group of
members get together to have dinner at each
other’s homes. You would receive an email
towards the end of the month asking if you wish to
participate in the event the following month and
whether you wish to be a host or a guest. You
would be asked to take your turn hosting at your
convenience. You would receive an email in the
first week of the month detailing who you would
be having dinner with or who would be coming to
your home. The host then emails their guests to
request their contribution of appetizer, salad, or
dessert. For convenience, the host usually prepares
the bulk of the main course. At the end of the
evening everyone tells how much they have spent
and the cost is divided equally. It is of course a
BYOB event. Dependent on the size of your table
you should be able to seat six or eight. In the
summer and at Christmas we have a cocktail party
with one host, where everybody goes to the same
home, instead of dinner. Call Ernest Montgomery
at 705-444-5049 or email at [email protected]
to add your name to the list. This is a great way
for new members to get to know others on a oneon-one basis.
Our Archivist, Kathy Tourchin, would
appreciate receiving any photos that members may
have of Probus Gateway club events.
Monthly Meetings are held on the third Tuesday
of every month (except December) from 10:00 am
to noon at the Georgian Manor Resort,
Collingwood.
Book Exchange: If you have a book you would
like to pass on please leave it at the back of the
room and exchange it for one you might like to
read.
Membership Information: Please email
[email protected] or phone 705-444-5049 with
any changes to your home, email address or
telephone number. If you have lost your name
badge, please contact Ernest Montgomery (the
replacement cost is $15 for a Charter member or
$12 for a non-charter member).
Use/Misuse of Email/Address List: Members are
reminded that the email/address list distributed to
members is strictly reserved for club members and
club activities only. Gateway is a social club. Our
constitution states that, like all other Probus clubs,
we are non-political, non-sectarian, noncommercial and non-fundraising. The noncommercial status means that no member may use
club events or facilities (newsletter, website,
meetings etc.) as a forum to solicit business. The
Executive Committee has also decreed that the
Club will not sanction a request for, or a donation
to, any charitable organization at Probus Gateway
meetings.
Cheer-Up Committee: If you are aware of a
Gateway member who is ill please let a Cheer-Up
Committee member know.
Please Remember: Activities and clubs are open
to current Gateway Probus members only.
Members must pay for events when they sign up
(no post-dated cheques) to guarantee attendance.
Free outings will require a deposit, which will be
returned when the member participates. Money
collected for events may be returned in whole or
in part only if there is a surplus at the end of the
event.
Please bring your cheque book to all Gateway
meetings as organizers do not accept cash.
Cheques should be made payable to PROBUS
CLUB OF THE GATEWAY. Please note that
cheques may not be cashed until the time of the
event. If you are unable to attend an event you
must let organizers know.
