Planning and thinking ahead can help eliminate most of these hazards. Common sense safety also needs to be practiced at home. Everyone must be aware of potential hazards on the job and at home, take a close look at your surroundings, and correct any hazards immediately. This week we will discuss how using a little common sense can go a long way in keeping all of us healthy, safe and happy: • PRACTICE GOOD HOUSEKEEPING - Poor housekeeping can result in slips, trips and falls. • LOCATE EXITS - If exits are blocked they need to be cleared immediately. • REVIEW EMERGENCY PLANS - Understand your site alarms and evacuation routes. • USE PERSONAL PROTECTION EQUIPMENT (PPE) - Do you know what type of personal protection equipment (PPE) is required for your job? • AVOID ELECTRICAL HAZARDS - Electricity can cause shocks, burns or fire if not handled properly. • BE FAMILIAR WITH FIRE EXTINGUISHERS - Knowing how to properly use a fire extinguisher before a fire occurs in imperative. And, especially this month: COLD WEATHER Spring in almost here but cold weather is still gripping us here in Ohio. Wear several layers of light, loose clothing that will trap air, yet provide adequate ventilation. This is better protection than one bulky or heavy covering. Coverings for the head and neck are important. Hats, scarves, earmuffs are good protection. PLEASE: BE AWARE OF SLIP, TRIP AND FALLS HAZARDS It is often difficult to keep drives and walkways completely clear of ice and snow 24 hours a day at our homes. Do you part to protect yourself and others by being extra careful and clear snow and ice from these areas.
