Nebraska Regional Tournament Guide Regional Tournaments Lewis and Clark – March 7th, 2015 Blair High School Blair, NE Twin Rivers – March 7th, 2015 Cross County Schools Stromsburg, NE Sandhills – March 28th, 2015 Potter-Dix High School Potter, NE Before the Tournament Step 1 – Review the Schedule Please review the schedule and check for the following: --that your team name and number are correct --that your challenge placement and level is correct --that there is no conflict with your Team Challenge and Instant Challenge times. Notify the Tournament Director IMMEDIATELY should you notice an irregularity on the schedule. Any team that does not arrive at the competition site before its scheduled time may not get a chance to compete in the event. The Challenge Master at each competition site will determine if a late-arriving team has time to complete the event. ♪♪♪Action Item: Copy the Media Release Form (at the end of this packet) and have each team member fill one out, signed by parents/guardians. These MUST be turned in at Registration table at the Tournament. Step 2 – Know these Procedures TEAM CHALLENGE: Each team should report to the competition site ready to perform 20 minutes prior to its scheduled performance time. INSTANT CHALLENGE: Each team should report to the competition site ready to perform 15 minutes prior to the team's scheduled competition times. Please remember that a completed Declaration of Independence form must be given to the Appraiser who checks teams in at the Instant Challenge site. Structural Challenge: Lose to Win : Each team should check their structures in with the check-in Appraisers NO EARLIER than 1 hour before the scheduled competition time. Your structure should be picked up immediately before entering the Prep Area, which is about 20 minutes before scheduled competition time. Step 3 – Information for all Teams Teams must refer to the Rules of the Road and the Central Challenge for all forms needed for their individual competition. Time will not be given in the Prep Area to complete paper work needed for the Challenge. Teams should be sportsmanlike in their demeanor throughout the tournament. Penalties can and will be given for language and behavior that is rude, discourteous or not in the spirit of competition. Team Managers are responsible for their team the entire day, including any activities planned as time fillers between their competition and the Awards ceremony. Final score sheets need to be picked up in front of the awards podium immediately following the Awards Ceremony. We will NOT mail these to you. If you cannot be available to pick up your team’s scores, please designate someone to do it for you. Team Managers of teams advancing to the Affiliate Finals MUST attend the meeting following the Regional Tournament Awards Ceremony in order to receive their Affiliate Finals packet. The meeting place will be announced at the ceremony. Each team advancing to the Affiliate Finals MUST be represented in Kearney by an Appraiser trained during this competition season. The Appraiser must have appraised at their Regional Competition. Team Managers should bring the following Appraiser information to the Affiliate Finals meeting. Which Challenge and level? ♪♪♪ Action Item: Please fill out the Advancing Form located at the end of this tournament packet prior to the tournament and bring it with you. As soon as the Affiliate Finals schedule is prepared, a letter will be sent to the Team Manager and the schedule will be posted on the NCAPS website at www.ncaps.org. Step 1 - Registration At the Tournament Site The Team Manager of Record must check in at the Registration Table and let the Tournament Officials know the team has arrived. There will be a ‘checker table’ with extra papers if the team has failed to bring all required paperwork. ♪♪♪ Action Item: Hand in all your team’s Media Release Forms at this time. Step 2 – Competition Details Please confirm your team’s competition times with the tournament officials at the registration desk. Should there be any additional tournament information, you will receive it then. Step 3 – Appraiser Each team must also provide a trained Appraiser as per Team Rule requirements to help with the tournament. If your trained Appraiser does not report, we must assess a 50 point score deduction to your team. Step 4 – Acclimate your team Find the following to make your team feel at ease: performance site, unloading zone, restrooms, cafeteria, souvenir stand, container for the raffle, and a good place to make camp. Step 5 – Visit the Souvenir Stand Pins: This year challenge pins will be available along with the state pin as a complete set. The theme for Nebraska in Destination Imagination revolves around Taking Creativity by Storm. Items will be available at the souvenir stand. Other Items: The state board will offer other exciting souvenir items and fun collectables. Again, selection and number are limited, so shop early. There will also be a selection of DI Global Finals 2014 Collector Pins, including foreign pins. Teams Advancing to Affiliate Finals State DI Officials determine how many teams will advance from each region to the Affiliate Finals in Kearney, NE, April 11th, 2015. The number of advancing teams from your region will vary each year based on the number of teams registered across the state competing in each challenge and level. The number of advancing teams from your region will be announced at the awards ceremony of your regional tournament. Awards First, second and third place winners will be awarded in each challenge and level. In addition, the teams advancing to Affiliate Finals will be announced. Three additional awards COULD be given. They are: 1. DaVinci Award: Given to reward a unique approach to a solution, risk taking, or outstanding creativity (not skill or talent). For this award solutions need not be successful to be received. 2. Spirit of Discovery and Imagination Award (Spirit of DI Award): given to recognize those who act as a superior role model in the area of spirit, sportsmanship, and volunteerism. 3. Renaissance Award: given for outstanding design, engineering, execution or performance. SHOP DI – Needing specialty DI goodies? Just click on www.shopdi.org and check out the fabulous DI products that are available. REGIONAL INSTRUCTIONS LEWIS and CLARK INSTRUCTIONS Lewis and Clark Competition Date: March 7th, 2015. There is NO snow date. The tournament will have a late start if there are weather problems. If there is a late start, listen to TV stations. Competition Site: Blair High School 440 N 10th Street Blair, NE Directions From 133 turn right at the roundabout and onto Highway 30. Continue in the right lane, turn right on Washington Street (a round bank building is at that corner.) Proceed in the left lane until you Reach 10th Street. Turn left. Dairy Queen will be on the left. Burger King will be on the right. Continue North until you reach a “Y” intersection. You will go past the High School. Turn right and enter at the parking lot that is marked with a large display sign. Parking is available on the East side of the school. Enter in the Southeast door. Appraisers will check in by 7:30 in the Library which is located at the center of the school. Team registration will begin at 8:00 a.m. All teams must be checked in by 10:00 a.m. Team Registration will be located by the entrance. Teams are to report to their competition sites 20 minutes prior to their scheduled time. Improvisational teams should report 30 minutes prior to performance times. Maps will be available. TWIN RIVERS INSTRUCTIONS Twin Rivers Competition Date: March 7th, 2015. There is NO snow date. The tournament will be held regardless of the weather. Competition site: Cross County Community Schools 1270 123rd Road Stromsburg, NE 68666 Located 3 miles South of Stromsburg and 15 miles North of York on Hwy 81 Unload props in East Loop. No parking in the East or West loop for fire safety. Registration will be at the same time and place as last time. Parking is available in the West and South parking lots. Busses are encouraged to use the West Lot. Props may be unloaded in the West loop but parking is not allowed in the West loop zone fire zone area. Appraisers need to check in at 8:00 a.m.. The registration table will be located in the West Commons area. Please keep all props on the protective floor coverings at all times. Team registration begins at 8:30 a.m. in the West Commons area. Teams must have their Appraisers registered before they will be allowed to sign in. Teams must refer to this manual for specific check in times. Prop Storage and Team Hangout will be in the East Gym. Appraisers will check in beginning at 8:30 a.m. Team registration will begin at 9:30 a.m. Teams are to refer to this manual for Challenge specific check in times. Maps will be available. Hall of Fame Destination Imagination® Administrators Award Who is eligible? Any Administrator in any school that is currently involved in Destination Imagination® is eligible for this award. What needs to be submitted? Three letters of recommendation are needed and must be from current or past Team Managers or Contact People. Anything else? One letter of recommendation is needed from a team member that has been a part of a school system the nominee is Administrator of. What needs to be covered in the nomination letters? 1. Does the nominee demonstrate an interest in Imagination to Innovation through Destination Imagination®? 2. Has the nominee evidenced a commitment to the importance of Destination Imagination® in their school? 3. In what ways has the nominee demonstrated by example and deed, the basic principles of a supporter of the Destination Imagination® Program? 4. Has the nominee shown creativity, originality and imagination as an administrator? 5. Attach a brief biographical summary of the nominee's career, including education, positions held, location, years in teaching/administration, and other pertinent information. .
