The Lynx System is now in its 11th year - The LynxKeyPro keyboard and USB PC duress buttons as well as the
network hardwired duress buttons now have a test feature that enables employees to test the alarm once a month,
creating reports, building confidence for employees and confirming the location. This is one of the many reasons that
90+ VA Medical Centers use the Lynx System for duress. Many are now adding the emergency notification elements
of the Lynx system to improve communication once they realized the limits of text/email in healthcare. Lynx now has
the Certificate of Networthiness (CON) for use in Military Facilities.
Lynx enables you to reduce the human element during an alarm, automatically sends the correct
information to the appropriate personnel. A single activation can send different messages to different groups or
take existing alarms that were sent to County radios and have them communicate only to County Dispatch.
During a Lock Down, Severe Weather or any other issues you can now combine “popup” messages, visual
strobes/LED signs, PA interface, HDMI Monitor interface, Verbal messages to SIP IP phones and mobile phones, text

LynxClient Software

has a Monthly Test Feature
The LynxClient multi-function software allows PCs to send alarms and receive notifications from the LynxGuide
server. The LynxClient software uses an msi installer that can be loaded on any Windows based PC, manually or
deployed using software distribution tools. It may be deployed with any combination of features enabled or in a
dormant mode, to be enabled when needed. The LynxClient software can be configured to be LynxIcon,
LynxIconPro, LynxKey, LynxKeyPro, LynxUSB and LynxMessenger. All LynxClient software functions can be
enabled or disabled from the LynxGuide server web interface. The system tray icon will indicate what LynxClient
functions are enable on a client PC.

LynxClient Duress Alarm Test Feature

The LynxKey, LynxKeyPro and LynxUSB Duress button
has the test feature for creating reports, training
employees and confirming location. The Locking
version of the USB duress button has a test feature that
can be performed by an officer with the reset key.
1. LynxKey, LynxKeyPro and the Lynx USB duress button allow employees to test the alarm each month as a
true test of the two key combination or USB button. When logged in, the employee will be prompted (on your
schedule) to test the alarm. The key combination or USB button will be temporarily de-activate while they go
through the 30 second test. The PC will show the employee has correctly tested the alarm (or not) and this
information will be recorded in the test report. The report will also show any PCs not tested within the test period.
The Lynx System test feature has the added advantage of training the employee to become more familiar
with the duress alarm and how to activate it.

2. The optional Location Verification test prompts the employee to confirm the PC location record. If it is
incorrect, the employee can enter the correct information and their extension number. Location reports allow the
system administrator to verify the location change, format the message and update the location in the Lynx alarm
information.
3. Once the test is complete, the test reports are available indicating which PCs tested the duress button and
which did not. The reports also lists any location changes that need to be made.
We have used the Lynxguide Emergency Notification and panic alarm server for the last four years. I am very pleased with the
system. It is timely and cost effective. I know I have saved tens of thousands of dollars on panic alarm install simply by leveraging
the lynxguide server to handle my panic alarms. The installation usually takes less that 5 minutes and staff really appreciate it.
The emergency notification system is used frequently at our facility to get message out to staff that are away from their desk by
SMS, email and auto Phone calls. Our behavioral health unit staff have been issued wireless panic alarm which are also part of the
Lynxguide system. I would recommend this system to assist with emergency response and reduce the cost of installing panic

LynxMessenger Popups are a powerful communication tool, allowing
alerts to be sent to PCs, Windows Tablets and Macs on your network.
Popups will appear on the display, on top of what the user is working on,
notifying them immediately. No yearly cost per client.
The LynxMessenger client software function is a simple-to-use instant
messaging program. The LynxClient software uses an msi installer that can

over the corner of the screen. The LynxMessenger pops up on top of what
someone is working on. This is very useful for informative messages that
need employees attention, but not necessarily taking over the whole screen.
Ideal for issues that are not always acknowledged via email. “Outlook is
Down” “Traffic Issues”, “Water Main Break Update”, “The Joint Commission
is Here”. The good thing about the small LynxMessenger Popup is that it
does not overuse the look and feel for an Emergency alert.
I have used the LYNX System for over five years and have found it to be the most reliable, user friendly and cost

Alarm Log files
The Lynxguide server stores the Log files of all alarms sent and received as well as the system alarms. All alarm
Logs may be accessed with Administrative Rights. Specific fields may be set up for others to access remotely.

Contact List & Group Management
The LynxGuide allows users, employees and students to
subscribe to receive Lynx notifications. The subscription page
can be configured as Public or Private. The Public subscription
page allows users to enter their contact information and select
notification groups. The Private subscription page requires
users to login with their Active Directory username and
password, then users enter their contact information and select
notification groups. All data entered by users is stored in the
Lynx database and is added to the Lynx contact list.
The contact list is the visual interface to all contact entries in the
Lynx database. All outputs from the Lynx system require a
contact list entry. Data can be entered manually, imported Active
Directory, imported from a tab delimited text file and from the
user subscription page. Contacts include email, SMS cell phone
numbers, pager numbers, groups, PC/Mac names, Login
names, all Lynx output devices and optionally phone numbers
for voice calls. Individual contacts can be joined to multiple
groups. Managing and editing contacts or groups is easy.
SNPP - Text Messaging to Pagers
The LynxGuide server can send text messages directly to an in-house paging system or 3rd
party paging companies that have the capability to accept SNPP (Simple Network Paging
Protocol) or SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) messages. Contact your paging system
vendor or manufacturer to verify that your paging system has this feature. Contact your 3rd
party paging company for SNPP server information.
SMTP - Email
The LynxGuide server has a built-in email server. This allows for SMTP (Simple Mail
Transfer Protocol) messages to be sent by the LynxGuide server. The LynxGuide server
can alternately be configured to relay off your in-house email server.
RSS Reader and RSS Server
The LynxGuide server has a built-in RSS Feed Reader and RSS Feed Server. The RSS
feed reader allows feeds such as NOAA, County or Industry Alerts to activate alarms within
the Lynx system. The RSS Feed Server allows any alarm channel or alarm group to send
RSS feeds. RSS readers that have been configured to the Lynx RSS feeds will receive the
messages. Automate weather alerts from NOAA to mass notify of a Tornado Warning.

“We purchased the Lynx system as an alternative to the high cost of installation with panic devices. We found that the cost for
each panic and the ability to install within 15 minutes was a great savings. The other nice piece is that it works well with an IP
camera. You can program the nearest IP camera to activate when the panic alarm is tripped. The bonus to this was the mass

Test Feature
The Lynx-WLS - the Wireless Locating System integrates with the LynxGuide server. When a wireless duress
button is activated, a signal is sent to the Lynx-WLS directly or using a 900 Mhz repeater network. The wireless
alarms can be installed in fixed locations with the pre-determined alarm location message. Or the LYNX-WLS
can triangulate the location of the wireless button using the repeater network data and sends the location
information to the LynxGuide server via the LAN. Up to 960 unique devices can be installed. The LYNX-WLS
can also take existing 900Mhz devices and integrate them into the Lynx system - adding all of the Lynx
capabilities - Possibly you do not like the way the alarms communicate or you need the test feature.

The Lynx-WLS connects to a network connection and power. The wireless duress buttons are pre-programmed to the
Lynx-WLS either for fixed or mobile use applications. For Fixed applications a repeater is only needed approximately every
10,000 square feet, based on building structure. For Mobile locating applications a repeater is needed approximately
every 1,500 to 2,000 square feet, based on building structure. See example diagrams below. The Locating system requires
a Lynx Technician onsite to configure the system after the Lynx-WLS and repeater network are installed.

The LynxUSB allows you to install a hardwired duress button anywhere in your facility that
there is a Windows based PC connected to the network. Simply load the client software
and install the LynxUSB or LynxUSB Locking duress button on the PC. Alerts are sent to the
LynxGuide server even when the PC is logged off. The Locking USB Duress Button
requires a tool (supplied) to re- activated. The activation and re-activation are recorded in
the log files. The USB button test feature has employees test the button each month,
creating reports, confidence for employees and confirms location information.

The LynxNet input devices are available in 1, 4, 32, 64, 96 or 128 input channel
configurations. The LynxNeti series input device is ideal for applications where existing
duress systems need updating or large numbers of points need to be monitored. Installed
panic buttons and wiring can be used with the LynxNet-I28i to allow the alarms to be sent to
the LynxGuide system. The LynxNeti series are wall mountable for industrial environments
and available in 32, 64, 96 or 128 input models to meet a variety of applications. The
LynxNeti series devices can instantly send alerts from any of the 32-128 dry contact
closure inputs. Inputs are programmable normally open (N.O.) or normally closed (N.C.).
End of Line (EOL) supervision provides connection integrity throughout the installation
using EOL resistors. EOL resistor range is 2.2K ohms to 5.1K ohms.
The new test feature will make it easy to test alarms and create monthly reports.

The LynxDispatcher allows instant Radio broadcast of alert messages using your existing radio system.
The LynxDispatcher allows any of your Lynx alarms - software or hardware to communicate
to your existing radio system. The messages can be pre-recorded wave files or you can use the
built-in text to speech feature. For applications with variables, the alarm subject with the
additional message is converted to speech and verbalized through your radio system. This
makes it even more powerful used with the LynxIcons when additional information is typed in or
for the PC based duress alarms with their location information. The LynxDispatcher will
broadcast on the one channel and frequency of the radio you supply. More than one
LynxDispatcher may be used to cover multiple radio frequencies and channels.

The LynxGuide System Server is a turn-key server with the LynxGuide software pre-loaded on a Dell server,
configured and tested for quick installation of the system. The S-series up to 2,000 client seats, the P-series up to
5,000 client seats and the A-series 10,000 seats. Each PC/Mac client software installation of the Desktop Icon,
LynxMessenger, LynxKey or LynxKeyPro is counted as a client seat. Any LynxNet device, such as LynxStrobe,

IT Information - Frequently Asked Questions about LYNX
The LynxGuide System Server is a turn-key server with the LynxGuide software pre-loaded on a Dell server,
configured and quality tested for quick installation on your LAN. The LynxClient software functions LynxIcon,
LynxIconPro, LynxKey, LynxKeyPro and LynxUSB allow PCs to alerts to the LynxGuide server. PCs with the
LynxMessenger function enabled can receive alerts from the LynxGuide server. The LynxGuide system is
typically operated by the security department, but the IT’s role is critical for server setup and MSI deployment.
Each LynxClient function that is enable uses one (1) LynxGuide server seat.
LynxGuide Server License grants the customer the right to use the software at a single campus or facility.
Use outside your campus or facility or over the public Internet is prohibited to facilities with more that 100 PCs with the
LynxClient software installed. Facilities over 100 PCs requires a LynxGuide server.
Network Assign the LynxGuide Server a Static IP address, add to your DNS and add to your domain if required.
The LynxGuide system server uses minimal network bandwidth when there is no activity, but will utilize more
bandwidth to launch large scale notifications based on the content of the messages.
Ports The LynxGuide server needs inbound ports 80,3000,10114,10115,10116,10117,10118,10119 opened.
Any LynxNet device needs inbound ports 80 open. For LynxSMS and LynxVoice Plans the LynxGuide server must be
able to connect to http://sms1.mitsi.com and http://sms2.mitsi.com
E-mail LynxGuide has a built in SMTP server or the SMTP traffic can be relayed through your existing mail server.
Active Directory System operator Login can use Active Directory to authenticate user login.
Virus Scanning Virus scanners do not interfere with the operation of the LynxGuide Server.
Database The LynxGuide Server uses Microsoft SQL Server Express. You can install Microsoft SQL Server
Standard Edition on your server. The standard LynxGuide server does use a local DB. Remote DBs can be supported,
however if the LynxGuide server can not connect to the remote DB, no alarms will be processed.
Supervision
LynxClient and LynxNet Devices check-in with the LynxGuide Server by default every 5 minute.
Supervision packet are less than 1Kb.
LynxClient Software Installation LynxClient is a 4 Mb MSI and can be manually installed or distributed
using your software distribution tools to PCs. LynxClient can be deployed in a dormant mode for remote activation.
Location Information for LynxClient software The information for determining the location of the PC
that launched a Lynx alarm is stored on the LynxGuide server. Each client workstation uses the computer name as a
unique identifier. The LynxGuide server uses the “Macro Lookup table” to translate the unique identifier into useful
location information. There is a two-column table in the Lynx SQL database called “Lookup” that contains the unique
identifier in the “From” column and the corresponding location in the “To” column.
The LynxClient test feature allows for users to provide the initial data or verify the stored data as part of the
monthly test. When users provide information, it is presented in an administration level panel to verify before updating
the “Macro Lookup table”. This updated location data is exportable to share with IT.

The Lynx system may be set up in a Fail-over configuration.
This will require two LynxGuide servers and a Fail-over package.
