SHOWCASE EVENTS:
Competitors who place first, second, third or fourth in a contested Showcase skating event held from the close
of entries to the preceding the close of entries or in the immediately prior National Showcase will receive an
invitation to compete at the National Showcase Competition held each August.
Judging Guidelines:
Judges selected from US Figure Skating official lists will score all events using one mark based on the 6.0
Judging system (0 to 6.0 scale).
1. Performances will be judged from an entertainment standpoint, for theatrical and artistic qualities.
2. Technical skating skills and difficulty will not be rewarded as such; however, skating must be the major
element of the performance and be of sufficient quality to support the selected theatrical elements.
3. Unintended falls, poorly executed skating elements and obvious losses of control will reduce the score.
4. Jump difficulty is not rewarded in showcase; therefore jumps, if choreographed, should be performed
with style, flow and confidence.
5. Elements evaluated will include reflection of the musicality as it pertains to the concept of the program,
projection, energy, timing, acting, skating skills that relate to the music, use of props and scenery,
interaction (Duets and Ensembles only). Note: Prolonged pauses to express lyrics are discouraged,
6. One mark using the 6.0 judging system will be given by each judge for each performance. No technical
skating mark will be used.
Costumes:
1. Costuming and make-up for showcase/artistic/theatrical/interpretive skating programs should enhance
the feeling created by the performance, and reflect the meaning of the story or theme.
2. Costumes rules for free skate do not apply for showcase/artistic/theatrical/interpretive skating.
Ornaments and hair accessories must be secure.
3. No bobby-pins, feathers, hair accessories, or anything else that may fall to the ice and be hazardous to
the skaters are allowed. 0.1 deduction will be taken.
PROPS:
All props must be sensible, safe and transported onto and off the ice by the skater, without assistance in one
minute total on and off the for singles and two minutes on the ice and two minutes off the ice for ensembles.
The referee can disallow any prop. Prohibited props include those with anything living, fire, smoke, balloons,
feathers, fog, dry ice, electric power, whipped or shaving cream and any other item that could mar the ice or
affect other skaters.
Mandatory Deductions:
•
There will be a 0.2 deduction for each 5 seconds in excess of the maximum performance time.
•
There will be a 0.2 deduction for each 5 seconds in excess of the maximum prop placement
•
There will be a 0.2 deduction for each 5 seconds in excess of the maximum prop break down time.
•

Recall for showcase events:
Skaters in all Showcase events, except entrants for Interpretive and Groups, will be eligible for the Recall event.
Recall is limited to two skaters in any event. In order for the 2nd place skater to be recalled, the 1st place skater
must have been recalled. Entrants recalled in more than one singles event must choose which program they will
perform. Skaters also recalled in duet events may skate and receive awards in duet events in addition to one
singles event.
Each judge will indicate on his or her scoring sheet potential recall skaters & pairs. A majority of judges on the
panel must agree in order for skater to be recalled. Any entry (including previous winners) may be recalled
from any Showcase event except Interpretive and Ensemble events.
Awards will be given to all recall entries at the conclusion of the competition. Trophies will be presented to the
