This competition is open to all eligible, restricted, reinstated or readmitted persons as defined by the Eligibility Rules, and is a currently registered member of a U.S. Figure Skating member club, a collegiate club or an individual member in accordance with the current Rulebook. Non-U.S. citizens from countries other than Canada who have documentation that they are in good standing with their own national federation and have permission from said federation to compete in U.S. Figure Skating sanctioned competitions or have requested release from said federation are also eligible to compete (U.S. Figure Skating Rule #3060). Registration link available at http://www.vvfsc.org SERIES INFORMATION: This competition has been approved by U.S. Figure Skating as part of the 2015 National Solo Dance Series. ELIGIBILITY/TEST LEVEL Test level: Competition level is the highest test passed as of the entry deadline, in the discipline the skater is entering (exception: Open Pro-AM/Am-Am Dance events). Entrants may skate one level above that for which they qualify, but may not skate down in any event. Age restrictions/requirements: For all age restricted events, age as of the entry deadline will govern. ENTRIES: Entries must be submitted on-line through Entryeeze by Sunday, March 6, 2015. all entries submitted after that date will be considered late entries. Late entries will be accepted at the discretion of the Chief Referee, and be charged a one-time late fee of $25 per application. Entries will be accepted in the order received. At the discretion of the Chief Referee, events may be combined. Single entries may be offered to perform an exhibition and, thus, be eligible for recall but not for a refund. All decisions of the Chief Referee are final. Note: The withdrawal of competitor(s) in an event within 48 hours of the event start will not change the status of an event as long as one skater remains; no event will be canceled with at least one competitor, and no refunds provided, within 48 hours of the competition event. REFUND POLICY; Entry fees will not be refunded after entry deadline (11:59 PM Pacific Time on March 6, 2015) unless no competition exists in that event or is canceled or a single entry skater does not wish to perform an exhibition. FACILITIES: The Competition will be held at Vacaville Ice Sports (www.vacavilleicesports.com) which is located at 551 Davis Street, Vacaville, California 95688. Access is from the Interstate 80 freeway and the Davis Street off ramp, from either direction. Rink size is approximately 200 x85 ft. with rounded corners. Adequate parking & dressing rooms are available. Performance area is reduced by approximately 25' for curtain and backstage warm-up area. Showcase ensembles and all Dance events will have the full ice JUDGING SYSTEM: The 6.0 Majority Judging System will be used or all events and implemented as follows: • All Dance events (Two marks) • Showcase events (One mark, No technical skating mark will be used.) INFORMATION REGARDING COACHES: To coach at a U.S. Figure Skating sanctioned competition, a professional coach or choreographer must be: • • • • • • Declared by a skater in the registration process with the club. Listed as Coaches Education Requirement (CER) Category A or B compliant for the current season. Current with Coach Registration (requires annual fee and background check) A current member in good standing with U.S. Figure Skating. A current member in good standing with the PSA A coaches requirements chart can be found here: http://www.usfigureskating.org/Content/Coaches%20Requirement%20Chart.pdf The local organizing committee/club will have a list of coaches who are cleared for a credential at the competition. Coaches will need to check in at the event registration desk and show a government issued photo I.D. to receive a credential. Coaches who are NOT on the list will need to show proof of membership in BOTH U.S. Figure Skating and the PSA, a Coaches Registration card, proof of Category A or B (C for Basic Skating) compliance in CER, and a photo I.D. at check in. If a coach cannot provide a photo I.D. and is not on the list or cannot produce the necessary documents, he or she will not be allowed a credential - no exceptions. We strongly urge all coaches to have their cards with them. Non-credentialed coaches will not be permitted in the designated coaching area at rink side during event. ADMISSION: Free to all spectators for all events. Page 3 of 16 NOTICES: An official bulletin board in the rink lobby will have the latest official schedule and skating orders posted. These postings will supersede all others. A tentative schedule which is subject to change and entry lists will be posted on the club website approximately 2 weeks prior to the competition. CHECK-IN: All skaters/ensembles must check in with their music at least 45 minutes prior to the scheduled time for their event and be backstage and ready to skate up to a maximum of 30 minutes before posted time. Interpretive event skaters must check-in backstage 45 minutes prior to the scheduled time for their event. MUSIC: All music must be on CD’s (CD-R or CD+R) only (no CD-RW's) and turned in at the registration table at the time of check-in. Only one (1) music track per CD. Each must be clearly marked with skater’s name and event. Music not properly marked will not be accepted. All skaters are requested to have a backup available at rink side. CD's not picked up are not the responsibility of the host club and will be discarded. LIABILITY: U.S. Figure Skating, Vaca Valley FSC and Vacaville Ice Sports accept no responsibility for injury or damage sustained by any participant in this competition. This is in accordance with Rule 1600 of the official U.S. Figure Skating Rulebook. WARM-UP: A warm-up area behind the curtain will be available prior to each event. Full ice warm-up in front of the curtain will be allowed for Novice & higher, all Adult, and all Duet entries. Showcase ensembles (including Synchro teams and Theatre On Ice) and Dance events will have warm-up with no curtain. LIGHTING: House lights only will be used. No spotlights. AWARDS: Medals will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th places. Medals will be presented and pictures will be taken of the top four (4) skaters, pairs and groups in each event immediately following the posting of results. Awards will be given to all showcase recall entries at the conclusion of the competition. Trophies will be presented to the best 3 in the lower levels (Pre-Juvenile & lower) and the best 3 in the upper levels (Juvenile through Senior and all Adult/Young Adult & Pair competitors). Judging Guidelines: Judges selected from US Figure Skating official lists will score all events using one mark based on the 6.0 Judging system (0 to 6.0 scale). 1. Performances will be judged from an entertainment standpoint, for theatrical and artistic qualities. 2. Technical skating skills and difficulty will not be rewarded as such; however, skating must be the major element of the performance and be of sufficient quality to support the selected theatrical elements. 3. Unintended falls, poorly executed skating elements and obvious losses of control will reduce the score. 4. Jump difficulty is not rewarded in showcase; therefore jumps, if choreographed, should be performed with style, flow and confidence. 5. Elements evaluated will include reflection of the musicality as it pertains to the concept of the program, projection, energy, timing, acting, skating skills that relate to the music, use of props and scenery, interaction (Duets and Ensembles only). Note: Prolonged pauses to express lyrics are discouraged, 6. One mark using the 6.0 judging system will be given by each judge for each performance. No technical skating mark will be used. Costumes: 1. Costuming and make-up for showcase/artistic/theatrical/interpretive skating programs should enhance the feeling created by the performance, and reflect the meaning of the story or theme. 2. Costumes rules for free skate do not apply for showcase/artistic/theatrical/interpretive skating. Ornaments and hair accessories must be secure. 3. No bobby-pins, feathers, hair accessories, or anything else that may fall to the ice and be hazardous to the skaters are allowed. 0.1 deduction will be taken. PROPS: All props must be sensible, safe and transported onto and off the ice by the skater, without assistance in one minute total on and off the for singles and two minutes on the ice and two minutes off the ice for ensembles. The referee can disallow any prop. Prohibited props include those with anything living, fire, smoke, balloons, feathers, fog, dry ice, electric power, whipped or shaving cream and any other item that could mar the ice or affect other skaters. Mandatory Deductions: • There will be a 0.2 deduction for each 5 seconds in excess of the maximum performance time. • There will be a 0.2 deduction for each 5 seconds in excess of the maximum prop placement • There will be a 0.2 deduction for each 5 seconds in excess of the maximum prop break down time. • There will be a 0.2 deduction for marring the ice for succeeding skaters • There will be a 0.2 deduction for prohibited elements in restricted events • There will be a 0.2 deduction for use of prohibited props Note: There is no deduction for skating less than the allowed time. Page 6 of 16 Recall for showcase events: Skaters in all Showcase events, except entrants for Interpretive and Groups, will be eligible for the Recall event. Recall is limited to two skaters in any event. In order for the 2nd place skater to be recalled, the 1st place skater must have been recalled. Entrants recalled in more than one singles event must choose which program they will perform. Skaters also recalled in duet events may skate and receive awards in duet events in addition to one singles event. Each judge will indicate on his or her scoring sheet potential recall skaters & pairs. A majority of judges on the panel must agree in order for skater to be recalled. Any entry (including previous winners) may be recalled from any Showcase event except Interpretive and Ensemble events. Awards will be given to all recall entries at the conclusion of the competition. Interpretive A performance choreographed by the competitor, unaccompanied and unassisted, to music supplied by the hosting club. The music will be played three times during a 30-minute off-ice session and twice during a warm-up on ice prior to performance. After the warm up, skaters will go back to a room, with no music being played. All competitors will interpret the same music. Ensemble Events: Ensemble events do not qualify for first entry pricing. Please refer to the 2015 Solo Dance Series handbook for the current Series rules, levels and event requirements that will be in effect for this competition. 2015 SOLO DANCE SERIES EVENTS BEING OFFERED: (Preliminary through Gold Patterns dances, Combined Event Juvenile through Senior, and Shadow Dance Preliminary through Silver) The 6.0 judging system will be used for all events and levels at Solo Dance Competitions. The ISU judging system will not be used. SOLO DANCE SERIES SOLO PATTERN DANCE EVENT: The solo pattern dance event is comprised of two dances at each level. The specific dances at each level will be listed within the individual competition announcements and chosen by the host club. This event is offered at the preliminary through international solo dance levels. The solo pattern dance competitors will compete two dances at each level, with the result from both dances being combined to create a final, overall result. Points will be awarded to each skater based upon the skaters’ combined overall placement of the two pattern dances. For 2015, skaters will not qualify for the National Solo Dance Final, however, skaters will receive points and the top three teams in each section at each level will earn medals. TEST LEVEL FOR SHADOW DANCE: The determination of level will be based upon test level as of the 2015 Series entry level deadline of March 15, 2015 and/or when the skater submits their registration to be a solo dance series participant, which ever date is earlier)**. Participants may test during the Series season without penalty. Teams must remain the same throughout the season – partners cannot change once registered. Teams may not change or move up levels in the 2015 Series once the deadline has passed and/or when they submit their registration to U.S. Figure Skating, whichever is earlier. ** Test level may be either standard or solo dance. Adult dance, adult solo dance, master’s dance and master’s solo dance do not fulfill the testing requirements for this event. SHADOW DANCE EVENT LEVELS AND TEST REQUIREMENTS: Level Preliminary Requirement Dances One partner must not have passed higher Dutch Waltz (3 sequences) than the complete pre-bronze dance test. Juvenile One partner must not have passed higher Cha Cha (3 sequences) than the complete pre-silver dance test. Intermediate One partner must not have passed higher Hickory Hoedown (3 sequences) than the complete silver dance test. Novice One partner must not have passed higher Foxtrot (4 sequences) than the complete pre-gold dance test. Junior One partner must not have passed higher Tango (2 sequences) than the complete gold dance test. Senior Open. Quickstep (4 sequences) A team may be comprised of two females, two males or one female and one male. In all cases, the steps skated will be the LADY’S steps as specified in the U.S. Figure Skating Rulebook. Page 15 of 16 PRO-AM/AM-AM EVENTS A dance couple will consist of an eligible skater and a professional or two eligible skaters. Competitors may not enter an event below their completed test level (either adult or standard track) as of March 6, 2015. Competitors may skate up one level. Events may be divided by age. Couples must do both dances in each level. Dances will be scored separately with awards based on the combined results. Preliminary Pre-Bronze Bronze Pre-Silver Silver Pre-Gold Gold International One partner should not have passed their US Figure Skating Pre-Bronze Dance test. Dances are Canasta Tango (2 sequences) and Rhythm Blues (2 sequences). One partner should not have passed their US Figure Skating Bronze Dance test. Dances are Cha Cha (2 sequences) and Fiesta Tango (2 sequences). One partner should not have passed their US Figure Skating Pre-Silver Dance test. Dances are Willow Waltz (2 sequences) and Hickory Hoedown (2 sequences). One partner should not have passed their US Figure Skating Silver Dance test. Dances are Fourteenstep (3 sequences) and European Waltz (2 sequences). One partner should not have passed their US Figure Skating Pre-Gold Dance test. Dances are Tango (2 sequences) and American Waltz (2 sequences). One partner should not have passed their US Figure Skating Gold Dance test. Dances are Blues (3 sequences) and Paso Doble (2 sequences). No test restrictions. Dances are Argentine Tango (2 sequences) and Quickstep (3 sequences). No test restrictions.
