She danced with the RWB Company as an apprentice before moving to Stockholm, Sweden to join the Royal Swedish Ballet. There she had the opportunity to perform many lead roles (including Myrtha in Giselle, staged and casted by Natalia Makarova). After three years, she returned to Canada and joined Ballet BC. Dancing nationally and internationally, her personal performance highlights have included works by choreographers Johan Inger, Crystal Pite, Aszure Barton, Serge Bennathan, Jorma Elo, Jiri Kylian and Medhi Walerski, among others. In 2009, she worked with Roberto Campanella and Robert Glumbek (ProArte Danza) and also taught at the Okanagan Summer Dance Intensive in Kelowna. Makaila danced in the 2010 Opening Ceremony of the Winter Olympics. In 2014 she completed her final season with Ballet BC, where she danced for almost 11 years. She is now an independent artist living in Vancouver. FACILITIES Dance Intensive is held at the world-renowned Royal Winnipeg Ballet, which boasts a newly-renovated facility, designed and built specifically for dance. The building contains 10 spacious, sprung-floor studios, including a 200-seat performance space as well as private dressing rooms with lockers and showers. Students attending Dance Intensive also have access to the RWB medical support team as required, including physiotherapy. ACTIVITIES Dance intensive is about more than just dance – it’s about learning, immersing yourself in Winnipeg culture and having fun! Students are invited to participate in supervised activities and field trips in their free time throughout the program. In the past, activities have included a beach day, a go-carting adventure at Thunder Rapids and an evening of theatre at Rainbow Stage.
