DISCLOSURE OF ENVIRONMENTAL AND SOCIAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT
REPORT AND RESETTLEMENT ACTION PLAN FOR IMPROVEMENT OF
ARUSHA-HOLILI ROAD (140KM) IN ARUSHA AND KILIMANJARO REGIONS
Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS) intends to improve Arusha-Holili
road to bitumen standard which will include construction of Arusha Bypass road. The
road project connects Taveta-Voi in Kenya and its implementation is coordinated by
East Africa Community Secretariat.
The African Development Bank (ADB) and Japan International Cooperation Agency
(JICA) have shown interest to finance improvement of Arusha-Holili road.
In fulfilment of the requirement of Environmental Management Act No 20 of 2004,
East Africa Community Secretariat commissioned M/s Egis International of Nairobi,
Kenya to undertake Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) and
prepare Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP) and Resettlement
Action Plan (RAP) for the improvement of Arusha-Holili road.
TANROADS is now disclosing the documents to the public and inviting all
stakeholders and the community at large to access the report for the purpose of
following up the implementation of the environmental and social mitigation measures
during the execution of construction works.
