Minimal Access Surgery hitherto known as “Key Hole Surgery” has become the norm in
most of the surgical branches today. Though this approach was slow to pick up amongst
cardiac surgeons, it has been off late becoming popular amongst them too. Cardiac
Surgeons worldwide have to compete with their interventional cardiologist colleagues
as patients demand less invasive approaches
It is also important to note here that our efforts in providing surgical healing through
minimal access doesn’t compromise on the safety, quality and longevity of the surgical
procedure performed. The results should match our conventional approaches and be a
step ahead. This approach should also result in better outcomes than interventional
therapies by Cardiologists.
Minimal Access Cardiac Surgery has inherent advantages of avoiding cutting the
breast bone, which according to many is a major disadvantage of conventional cardiac
surgery. Also the use of blood products is minimized or eliminated. The post-operative
recovery is hastened and the patient may be discharged within 48 hours after surgery.
We are putting together various Minimal Access Cardiac Surgeons in India who have
great experience and have pioneered this technique in our country. This is an attempt
to introduce and popularize this approach to as many cardiac surgeons as possible
especially to the younger lot. We extend a hearty invitation to the faculty & the
delegates and hope that you all will partake in this exciting field of cardiac surgery.
