until 7pm at night. We ask that parents do not use the
school car park to drop children off at before and
after school activities, such as band. We also ask that
all parents walk to the school hall or classrooms using
the pathways provided. This is to enable school staff
to safely park their cars and to ensure the safety of
our students. Please do not walk across the car
park. Thanks for your cooperation in this matter.
SCRIPTURE AND ETHICS CLASSES
All students are now enrolled in either scripture,
Ethics or non-scripture classes and there will be no
further changes for the rest of the 2015 school year.
You may choose to select a different class in 2016,
however it is not fair to the special religious education
(SRE) teachers or the admin staff for students to be
chopping and changing classes. All classes are now full
and we have no further classrooms or teaching staff
available to cater for class changes.
P&C MEETING
The first P&C meeting of the year will be held next
Wednesday evening, 25th February at 7pm in the
school Library. Everyone is most welcome. Please note
the change of day – all evening P&C meetings will now
be held on Wednesday evenings.
PERMISSION NOTES
Permission notes for all school events, excursions etc.
are a legal requirement and must be signed and
returned to school before any event. If a permission
note is not received, your child will not be allowed to
attend the event or excursion, and will remain at
school.
CONGRATULATIONS
Congratulations to Judy Cowell, who has announced
her engagement to Matt. Judy and Matt will be
married in the next school holidays in April.
Sam Silipo is leaving us this Friday to await the birth of
baby number two, a brother or sister who will join
Sebastian. We wish her well.
SAFETY PLEASE
The school car park is out of bounds to all students as
it is used by school staff from 6:30am each day and
STEWART HOUSE CLOTHING APPEAL
Each year our school and most public schools across
NSW collect used clothing for our school charity,
Stewart House. Please go through your cupboards and
fill the bag with unwanted clothing and return the
filled bag to the hall COLA, near the access toilet
before 5th March. A Smith Family van will collect the
used clothing on that day. Thank you in advance. A
large bag will be sent home with each child this week.

VOLUNTEER READING
Dear Parents
We are planning to expand the current reading program to offer further reading opportunities to students who require
additional support in literacy. These reading sessions would be supplementary to the usual class literacy program. To implement
this, we would appreciate offers from parents, grandparents or other community members who can make a commitment to a
regular time and day that would be conven ient to them to be a Reading Tutor.
We hope you will consider participating in this program as a Volunteer Reading Tutor.
Training will be provided by Michiko de Solom and Jennifer Slade (Learnin g and Support Teachers) on Wednesday 4 March from
9.30am – 10.15am in the new Learning Support classroom (next to 2S - at the end of B Block). Even if you will not be
volunteering as a tutor you are welcome to be part of this information session as it will give you the opportunity to become
more familiar with the reading process and acquire strategies to help your child.
Please indicate below if you will be attending the session and whether you are able to volunteer to be a Reading Tutor.
Thank you for your support with this valuable program.

Gardening Club
Gardening Club recommenced for 2015 last week. Members meet each Thursday at lunchtime (after eating time has
finished). The children enjoyed tasting a bumper crop of green capsicums and are eagerly waiting for the passionfruit
to ripen. A new group of children will have an opportunity to join Garden Club each term.

P & C News
P & C Parent Survey Results
Thank you to everyone who took the time to fill in our parent survey late last year – 186 surveys were completed,
which is a great response.
The results have helped to identify those areas that parents would like the P&C to focus on, and provided good
feedback on how the P&C can improve its effectiveness and communication. Some key messages in the survey were:
•
•
•
•
Key areas of focus for the P&C should be continued educational support (teachers and materials) for the
school, providing creative and varied play areas, and fixing the oval.
The school has a fantastic volunteer support base, with the significant majority of respondents either already
volunteering, or able to volunteer their time in support of the school.
People would like the P&C to consult more on spending decisions, and communicate more about future
fundraising goals.
The P&C needs to be more welcoming to new parents and ideas, and broaden the volunteer community.
You can see a more detailed summary of the survey results on the P&C website at http://www.lcwps.com.au/ .
Some changes and actions are already underway in response to suggestions made in the survey, such as:
•
A new play area, and a fix for the oval, are being investigated and will be discussed at the next P&C meeting
on Wednesday 25 February.
•
•
•
A new Volunteer Coordinator role has been added to the P&C Executive, to help better communicate
volunteer opportunities and help people get involved (for example, by volunteering as part of a team rather
than taking sole responsibility).
Year 1 parents and the P&C hosted a drinks night for Kindy parents to welcome them into our school
community, with a great turnout on the night.
P&C meetings this year will be held on Wednesday evenings, as many found the daytime meetings difficult
to attend.
We hope to see you at the next general P&C meeting on Wednesday 25 February, for more discussion about the
goals of the P&C in 2015. Special thanks to Tami Bradley (Eldridge) for initiating the survey and collating the results.

BANKING
It was great to see the return of School Banking this week. We had over 50 depositors this week.
Please make sure that the deposits slips are completed before your child comes to do their banking. It
is essential that their name and bank account details be completed along with the correct amount
being deposited. The student number (if known) is also required. The tellers have a list of each student’s number and
will be filling it in on the inside of the deposit book.
REMINDERS: SCHOOL BANKING IS UNABLE TO ACCEPT FOREIGN CURRENCIES – NOTES AND COINS.
For those families new to the school, Banking is every Tuesday morning 9:00AM until 9:25AM at one of the canteen
windows under the Hall COLA (see below for more information about the school banking program).
Rewards Program 2015
Don’t forget that the Rewards Program is up and running again this year. Remember, to help reward individual
savings efforts, every time a student deposits into their Youthsaver account through School Banking, regardless of
the amount, they’ll receive a Dollarmites token. Once they’ve collected 10 tokens, they can redeem them for a
variety of exciting reward items. They’ll also receive a certificate when they reach certain savings milestones.
The 2015 reward items include :
• ET DVD
• Planet Handball
• Invisible Ink Martian Pen
• Intergalactic Rocket
• Glow-in-the-Dark Solar System
• Cosmic Light Beam Torch
• Outer Space Savers Money Box
• Lunar Light Band
Get involved in the School Banking program.
You can get involved in the School Banking program by opening a Commonwealth
Bank Youthsaver account at any Commonwealth Bank branch, over the phone on
13 2221, or via NetBank if you are an existing customer with NetBank access.
Remember to take in identification for you and your child (driver’s license and
birth certificate). You will receive a Dollarmites wallet and deposit book that your
child will use to participate in the program.
Our school receives $5 when a student makes their first ever School Banking
deposit and 5% on every deposit made through the school (to a maximum of $10
per individual deposit).
Thank you for supporting our school and helping to teach your child the benefits of
saving regularly.
