SCINTIFIC
SOLUTIONS
ECONOMIC PROBLEMS
TO
Contributed by: SHIVANI KAUSHIK
MBA IV sem
The economic policies practised by
global leaders are not working, as it is
predicated
upon
increasing
consumption-led
growth
which,
despite dollops of liquidity, is not
forthcoming.
Economic
growth
remains limpid, and the governments
have taken on mountains of debt to
finance social welfare programmes.
These policies have created problems,
whether economic, environmental or
geopolitical and it is now left to
scientists to solve them. Thus, there is
a race between how fast global
politicians can create another crisis
versus how fast scientists can find
technological solutions to avert it.
The best example is crude oil. Oil
prices are falling as Saudi Arabia on
geopolitical grounds of retaining
market share has halved the
production. It is leading to
consequences, which are bad for the
future. One, Americans, enthused by
lower gasoline prices, are buying gasguzzling vehicles, which ought to be
banned. Two, the US oil companies,
including shale firms, are deferring
capex, as the low crude prices makes
exploration unviable. This in turn is
halting their job creation, and hence
the economic recovery. Scientists
have responded with technologies
such as Horizontal Fracking which,
when crude priced rise again, would
have the US overtake Saudi as the
largest producer of oil.
India must consider all emerging
technologies, which is planning its
100 smart cities. It must also create an
environment such as Silicon Valley
that fosters innovation.
Take another example. Like every
other nation, India needs more
electricity to power economic growth,
and is struggling to find a fuel that is
not environmentally polluting as coal.
The better option is renewable
energy. The cost of generating solar
power is almost equal to conventional
power, thanks to technology. The
only problem is storage, since
renewable power is subject to
vagaries of nature. Technology is now
providing a solution to storing energy
generated from any source. An Israeli
company, Enstorage, has announced
production of the first ever 50 MW
grid connected Hydrogen-Bromine
flow battery.
So, why should India take a back seat
in implementing the same.

BENEFITS OF GENDER
DIVERSITY : (Improves
companies’ financial performance)
Contributed By: ANKIT GARG
MBA IV Sem
Today gender diversity benefits the
businesses in many ways now
companies can perform better
financially, particularly when women
occupy a significant proportion of top
management
positions
and
demonstrate superior team dynamics
and productivity.
An analysis of 2,360 global
companies in a various industries
shows that companies with women on
their executive boards outperformed
companies with all-male executive
boards. Gender-diverse management
teams showed superior return on
equity, debt/equity ratios, price/equity
ratios, and average growth. After the
2008 global economic crash, leading
researchers to conclude that gender
diversity might be especially valuable
in times of recession.
Many organizations in this context
found that those organisations having
three or more women on their
executive boards outperformed other
companies on all of the study’s
measures of performance: leadership,
direction, coordination accountability,
and control, capability, external
orientation, work environment, and
values. Further many studies found a
positive
relationship
between
organizational performance and the
presence of women in organizations’
top management teams.
For example researchers analyzed the
gender composition of the top
management teams and found a
positive association between higher
proportions of women and the
companies’ return.
An investigation found that
companies with more race and
gender diverse teams can get
higher sales revenue, greater
market share more customers,
and greater profits than less
diverse companies.
Many statistical analyses showed
that
gender-balanced
teams
outperformed
both
maledominated and female-dominated
teams.
A greater proportion of women
in company are associated with
higher collective intelligence, as
it provides “the general ability of
a group to perform a wide variety
of tasks.”
For example:
•Researchers when study the
people working in teams of 2 to
5 people found that teams’
collective intelligence rises with
the number of women in the
group, possibly because women
gives higher performance on
tasks that required social
sensitivity.


A study of 21 companies in
many countries found that
gender-balanced teams were
the most likely to experiment,
be creative, fulfil tasks and
share their knowledge. The
study also found that the most
confident teams had a slight
majority of women (60%).
A study at four companies
found that gender diversity on
technical work teams was
associated
with
superior
adherence to project schedules,
higher employee performance
ratings ,lower project costs, ,
and higher employee pay
bonuses.

Turning
Superstitious
Achieve Goals?
To
Contributed by: PRAGYA GAUTAM
MBA IV Sem
A new study has revealed that people
are likelier to turn to superstition or
lucky charms to achieve performance
goals rather than learning goals. Eric
Hamerman at Tulane University and
Carey More wedge at Boston
University, USA, have determined
that people use superstitions behavior
to help achieve both chronic and
temporary performance goals, but not
for help achieving goals .
Hamermam says that previous
researches have shown that when a
goal has high uncertainty people are
likelier to turn to superstition and
when performance goals become
more
uncertain,
people
use
superstition to help achieve them.
However, increasing the uncertainty
of learning goals does not affect
whether or not people turn to
superstition.
Hamerman also cautions that the
research does not investigate whether
belief in superstition has an effect on
actual performance.
The research shows that using
superstitions
increases
people’s
confidence in achieving performance
goals, and it was certainly possible
that under certain circumstances,
increased confidence might lead to
improved performance.
However,
the
researches
acknowledged that superstition was
not a rational way of actually helping
achieve such goals, and the purpose
of the research was not to recommend
superstition as a method of goal
achievement.

The World Is A Sanctuary And Life
Is Joy
Contributed by: PULKIT GOYAL
MBA IV sem
The art of living is second to none.
The art of understanding is also
important: it should help us not only
to comprehend the ways we have
been bound and imprisoned, but also
to find a path to liberation, to
freedom, to fulfilment.
We need to start with assumptions
about the world in which we are
living and reflect in which way
cosmology can help us to live and
experience joy. We should be clear
about what we are doing. We don’t
live in a mechanistic cage, which is
the source of our sorrows and slavery.
The world is a sanctuary, and
everything in it is a part of this
sanctuary. This assumption is
tremendously important. Once we
truly understand it, we are
immediately lifted. Literally, we can
start living in a new way. This
assumption becomes our ethical
backbone and also the ways of
understanding.
If the world is a sanctuary, you are a
sanctuary. Each of us is a sanctuary.
Therefore you have to treat yourself
seriously— as a sanctuary—otherwise
you are back in the cage. If the world
is a sanctuary, you must treat it
reverentially. Reverence for life
immediately becomes a part of your
ethics. Put it simply: it becomes a
mode of living in this world.
You must not only believe in good
ideas. You must implement them and
use them as a vehicle of creative and
joyous living. You must be prudent
and discerning, you must not believe
cynics and skeptics, who undermine
your creative and reverential life.
You must also be consequential.
From the ethical value of reverence
for life, there immediately follows
responsibility for life—for all life,
especially
for
your
creative,
meaningful and joyous life.
Your consequential mind must also
observe that from the idea of the
world as a sanctuary, there follows an
active mode of life: of living
reverentially, with responsibility and
under the umbrella of Right
Livelihood. Yes, your life style must
be wise and frugal. Frugality is an
expression of your responsibility. It is
only in this way that you can
counteract this enormous tsunami of
mindless
consumption,
which
destroys the meaning of our life.
You must not only understand that
you are beaten to submission, that you
are being undermined, manipulated
and
persuaded,
namely
that
consumerism
is
your
“new
philosophy;” and that this philosophy
will make you happy, while you know
that it is making you moronic. Living
philosophy is not only a philosophy.
It is a liturgy of enacting life, which is
bristling with joy— because you are a
joyous phenomenon of the cosmos.
You must not be afraid of seeing
yourself as a cosmic being. You must
have the courage of accepting
yourself as a dweller of a sanctuary.
You must have the clarity of
understanding
that
reverence,
responsibility, frugality and universal
compassion, all come from one
simple idea—of the world as
sanctuary.

DOES INTERNET TECHNOLOGY
THREATEN BRAND LOYALTY?
Contributed By:
AMIT YADAV
MBA IV Sem
The world is fascinated by an
international debate about information
technology security, and access to
“secrets”. View referenced years ago
in the column is playing out in the
diverse worlds of security, spying,
and patriotism.
It’s
clear
that
information
technologies have brought us into a
new age of international relations, but
they have profound implications, for
the way we do the business as well.
For example, a question has arisen
about how information both about us
and available to us as affects our
behaviours, specifically our loyalty as
behaviours, specifically our loyalty as
consumer and employee. There are
two predominant sides to the
discussion of this question. One is
that the amount of information about
products and services is becoming so
voluminous that it will lead to
increased consumer confusion.
As a result, the use of surrogates
(such as brands) in our purchasing
decisions will lead to greater brand
loyalty, justifying today’s massive
expenditure to preserve brands.
The other view is that the quality of
internet ”technologies” such as search
and feedback mechanisms, is
improving faster than the proliferation
of information, this will give users of
the internet the upper hand in the
battle for access to information and
ability to organize it, value it and use
it for decision-making.
Believe the latter outcome is the most
likely, based on extensive research .It
will increase the tendency, particulary
among younger consumers, to try new
goods
and
services,
possibly
switching their loyalties. If this turns
out to be the case, it call into question
a good portion of marketing beliefs
and expenditure regarding brand
building and the lifetime of a
customer. It may also suggest
different
approaches
to
the
management of human resources,
specifically methods of retaining
employee who will be better informed
about the job market.
If true, a better informed and less
loyal customer is a big deal for others
as well. It’s important for those
among us who believe that employee
and customer loyalty are important
determinants of business growth and
profitability.
It may mean a lot for us as consumers
as well, because the effectiveness of
the search apps we use will probably
be enhanced by the information that
others have about us .
Will big data overwhelm us, thereby
reinforcing such things as brand
loyalty? Or will the quality of our
search and valuation devices make us
smarter, and less loyal, customer for
goods, services, even jobs?
What does your own experience tell
you?
Is internet technology a threat to
loyalty?
What do you think?

So when and if you ever wizen up
And begin to understand that there is
more to life the cruelty.
You will come to this place where I
am at.
Filled with love, joy, everlasting
happiness and much assurance.
Hopefully you can see past all the
hurt that you are spitting out.
Come on it’s time to grow up and
understand

Innovating on skills
Contributed By: Anuj Tyagi
MBA IV sem
It is well known that youth
unemployment in some parts of
Europe has hit alarming levels. From
about 15 per cent in 2007, it went up
to 22 per cent in 2012. The situation
is grave.
Interestingly, it appears that the
primary causes of this distressing
trend cannot be blamed on the
economic crisis alone. That is only
part of the story.
In 2012, youth unemployment rates
varied from less than 10 per cent in
countries such as Austria, Germany,
Sweden,
Denmark,
and
the
Netherlands, to close to 50 per cent in
Greece, Italy, Portugal and Spain. So,
what is the reason for this huge
difference is education.
Empirical analysis across Europe
reveals that education and skills
development play a key role
preparing young people for the labour
market. In general, countries that have
a strong vocational education sector
show lower youth unemployment
rates than countries with a
predominantly general education
system. In countries with a strong
apprenticeship system such as in
Germany, Austria or the Netherlands,
skilled young people make a smooth
transition from school to work. One
reason is that apprenticeship systems
are resourceful in turning over helpful
information about the apprentice’s
skills and aptitude to employers.
The collaboration between business
and education makes sure that
vocational education turns imparts
skills
that
beautifully
match
employers’ needs of right Skills
In flourishing European economies, it
is all about learning the right skills. In
an environment where technology is
quickly displacing medium-skilled
workers in manufacturing and back
offices, the employment share of
routine task jobs is rapidly
diminishing. Jobs for high-skilled as
well as low-skilled workers involving
non-routine
tasks
have
been
increasing.
Another important aspect in some
highly successful and innovative
European
economies
is
the
expenditure on education — training
and lifelong learning — which is well
above the world average for
developed countries. Institutions of
higher education and research enjoy
great autonomy in education, research
and innovation, recruitment methods,
and to draw on alternative sources of
funding. Most important, education
and training curricula focus on
equipping people with the capacity to
learn
and develop
additional,
unfettered competency such as
decisive thinking, problem solving,
innovation
and
inventiveness,
teamwork, and intercultural and
communication skills.

are constantly looking for leaders who
can create more leaders than
followers. At work, in business, in
families and within friends, leaders
are important because they just don’t
show directions but help people
identify their strengths and bring out
the best in them.
Supreme quality work is one of the
main attributes of management or
leadership. Quality management is
crucial for the people involved as it is
for the end result of any work.
Managing the quality of the team does
not always have to do with work. It
also means maintaining a healthy,
cheerful, enthusiastic and resultoriented atmosphere within a team.
Great managers always focus on
creating a code of honor for the team
before they get started. It is an
excellent, result-oriented and an
effective way to lay rules that
everybody in the team must play by.
It is unspoken on many occasions but
firmly agreed by all. It is largely true
that when there are no rules, people
come up with their own. This is
perhaps the most deterring factor
between good and great quality
management.
Quality management is a vital aspect
for any team improvement. Quality
management deals with empowering
people and encouraging open
communication at all times. Of
course, the code of honor presets how
issues and concerns within the team
must be addressed constructively. As
for
work,
clear
and
sharp
communication helps members of the
team comprehend the true reason for
their presence and how their work
affects others’ and the team as a
whole. No two people are alike in a
team and therefore the approach to
handle each of them and their work
must be different too. Where there are
people, there is bound to be friction
however here are some basic
recommendations for improving
quality management within a team:
Consistent Improvement: Time is
more important and valuable than
money. This cannot be stressed
enough. In the world of finance, a
golden rule explains that a dollar
today is more valuable than a dollar
tomorrow. Similarly, in the team
management, the quality of the team’s
work along with interpersonal
relationships must improve on a
consistent basis. The dynamics of
people, the quality of the commitment
towards work and team work must
improve
at
regular
intervals.
Continuous improvement shows the
capacity of the team to withstand
pressure.
Customer of the mind: If it was not
for the customer, there would be no
business. Without business or work,
any of this would not make sense.
with the staff, he or she must feel the
quality.
Quality is a feeling more than it is a
tag. Teams need to be made
understood that when any customer
receives a product or service or even
interact. As long as team members
can put themselves in customers’
shoes and feel the difference, positive
changes are limited. A simple
greeting can stand out for quality and
get the conversation going. When
teams have customers on their mind,
accountability and sense of pride
helps them deliver only the best.

It’s never too late to start

The real taste of life is in fighting
rather than giving it up. A very
popular Hindi quotation is “Tere
girne me Teri har nahi, kyu ki tu
Aadmi hai avatar nahi”.
So, we should never give up easily.
“Jaha Himmat samapt hoti hai, wahi
se har ki shuruwat hati hai”…
The real loss is when you don’t try,
because you think you may not be
able to do it as you are too late.
Neither time nor any circumstances
are barrier to success.
Success doesn’t mean only monetary
gain but rather searching and finding
real happiness and satisfaction.
So, Today….
Forget your past,
Forgive yourself…
And let you begin Again…
“Koi bhi Lakshya insane ke sahas se
bada nahi Hara wohi hai jo lada
nahi”.

As the seconds pass...
we look back...
of what our lives have held...
As the minutes pass...
we see what fell through the cracks...
Parts of our lives we withheld...
As the hours pass...
we think of what we learned...
what we have taught...
what we have forgot...
As the days pass...
we wish a lot could be returned...
we wish we would of never fought..
you hope they forget-me not...
As years pass...
you stand alone..
they have all grown...
married and gone....

you did well...

History on feminism in India

Feminism is more than a voice of
protest or questioning. It is moral selfreflection, a conquering of inner fears
and a realisation of self-worth ... It
does not abandon values or
relationships, but goes on to create
new ones.”
Our epics and puranas, with their
plurality of narrative strategies and
multiplicity of interpretations, touch
upon all possible aspects of human
life helping us to raise — and
comprehend — some of the basic
questions that govern family and
public life.
Kalidasa'sShakuntala
and
IlangoAdigal'sKannagi are supreme
instances of women who, though
brought up and nurtured in a domestic
set up of patriarchal exclusion and
total surrender and subservience to
authority, fight for their moral rights,
putting the kings to shame.
There has been no major political or
social
uprising
against
male
domination. Remarkably, women in
the bhakti movement defied all
restrictions and achieved gender
equality. They even challenged
patriarchy and revolted against the
caste divide. Meera, Avvaiyar and
KaraikalAmmaiyar, for instance,
protested against patriarchy and
subverted the hegemonic structures
by staying outside the domain of
marriage. In the chapter “The
Nineteenth century and After”, Jasbir
examines five texts —Phaniyamma,
Fragments of a Life, Suvarnalatha,
Cast me Out, and Kagzi Hai Pairahan
— where the protagonists struggle for
“some breathing space.” Against all
odds, they broke themselves free of
oppressive social norms and, in the
process, enriched the woman's world.

HOW TECHNOLOGY EFFECT’S
ON SMALL BUSINESSES
Contributed by :

In today scenario, technology can
change faster as compare to human
thinking. All we know that
technology is used in each and every
field of department.
Technology effects on the large scale
industries as well as small scale
industries. When we talk about small
businesses, it is more important to
know that “how TECHNOLOGY
effect in small scale industries or
small businesses”. We know that
technology creates big changes in the
world, so small business also gets
affected through applied information
technology. In business, there are
several departments where technology
can be used. For example, record
making, accounting, payroll and
different application which are used
to connect with the customer.
In small businesses the main objective
is profit maximization, growth,
employee retention, productivity and
venture into large scale industries. So
,
technology helps different
department with their different
specialization.
For example:1. When we talk about the marketing
department,
“Microsoft” give as
different information application like
MS-word, MS-excel, MS-access
where we can prepare a report , using
MS-excel we can prepare the sale’s
report and MS-access for employee
records.
2. When we talk about the finance
department, we have a “tally” which
we use for decision making process.
3. Small businessmen can use
information technology in a great
manner for updating their business
according to trend. They use internet,
e-mail, blogs to connect with
customer for increasing the sale or
produce goods according to customer
(customize product). Company can
take feedback by mail, massages,
feedback on websites to update the
product and increase the standard of
the company.

Business World

Business World is one of the oldest as
well as most respected business
publications in the country. It was
born in 1981, and over the past three
decades, it has become known for its
rigorously reported and deeply
analysed reports and articles on the
economy,
banking,
finance,
industries, corporate houses and
entrepreneurs. It has become an
essential decision making tool for
leaders both in the government as
well as in corporate houses.
Business world is part of the ABP
Group, one of India's largest media
groups and the brand leader in eastern
India. ABP also publishes Ananda
bazaar Patrika, a widely popular
Bengali daily, and The Telegraph, the
largest read English daily in the
eastern region. The ABP group also
has three leading news channels ―
ABP News, ABP Ananda and ABP
Majha.
On September 19,2013 ABP Group
owners Ananda Publishers has sold
Business world to AnuragBatra,
owner
of
media
group
exchange4media, and Vikram
Jhunjhunwala, who runs investment
banking and asset management firm

amount. The biggest strength of
Business world has been its ability to
spot trends early and focus on the
opportunities ― and sometimes
threats ― it throws up for the Indian
economy as well as the corporate
sector.

Always Stay Grounded

There are opportunities galore in the
corporate world for fresh minds, for
qualified youngsters with passion,
determination and a commitment to
excel. Life after your formal and
professional education is not going to
be a cakewalk, to say the least. It’s a
highly competitive and cut-throat
environment out there. So, along with
your knowledge, skills, and abilities,
you need to have the right attitude to
make a difference and make your
mark in the corporate world.
In India, unlike in the US or other
western countries, only a small
percentage of MBA graduates have
prior work experience. This means
they are being hurled into a whole
new environment, which is relentless
and exceedingly demanding. In such
an intense scenario, a company can ill
afford to allow you extended lead
time for learning. You will literally be
expected to deliver from Day 1. So,
you will have to find out the way to
‘ensure your continuous learning’
without compromising on the
execution and delivery aspects of
your job. When you join an
organization, it is very important to
embrace the company culture.
Remember the culture of the
corporate is the reason for success of
the organization . It goes without
saying that attributes like passion,
commitment;
perseverance
and
integrity are critical success factors
for individuals in any sphere. But it’s
equally important to stay focused on
the task at hand and ensure quality
results, on time and every time. So
you have to complement these
positive qualities with a continued
emphasis on first-rate execution and
on-time delivery.

Break this cycle of dread
And get up out of bed,
Through times our pains will mend
Only stop to plan ahead
Sleep is great
But not worth being late.
Don’t become irate
By living by some wire,
Plan before this time comes to expire
No more will I stand idle,
Punctuality will be the new me,
To start anew
I will do what I always knew
And get out of this bed.

security contributions they make.

(MoUs) with Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan
and Andhra Pradesh for cooperation
to support the development of three
smart cities. The cities are Allahabad,

Narendra Modi
Contributed by: Pushkar
MBA II sem, Sec B
Narendra Modi’s journey began in the
by-lanes of Vadnagar, a small and
nondescript town in North Gujarat’s
Mehsana district. Born on 17th
September 1950, 3 years after India
attained freedom and within months
of India becoming a Republic,
Narendra Modi was the third of the
sixth children of Damodardas Modi
and Hiraba Modi.
Narendra Modi’s early years were far
from what a fairy tale upbringing is
like. The family belonged to the
marginalized sections of society and
had to struggle to make ends meet.
The entire family lived in a small
single storey house (approximately 40
feet by 12 feet). His father sold tea at
the tea stall he set up in the local
railway station. In his early years,
Narendra Modi too lent a hand to his
father at the tea stall.
These formative years left a strong
imprint on Narendra Modi. As a
child, Narendra Modi balanced his
studies, non-academic life and his
contribution at the family tea stall.
His schoolmates recall Narendra as a
diligent student with a penchant for
debating and reading. He would
spend hours and hours reading in the
school library. Among the sports, he
was very fond of swimming.
Narendra Modi had a wide range of
friends from all the communities. As
a child he often celebrated both Hindu
and Muslim festivals considering the
large number of Muslim friends he
had in the neighbourhood.
At a young age he developed an
inclination towards renunciation and
asceticism. He gave up eating salt,
chilies, oil and jaggery. Reading the
works of Swami Vivekananda cover
to cover took Narendra Modi to a
journey of spiritualism and laid the
foundation for his own mission to
fulfill Swami Vivekananda’s dream
of a Jagad Guru Bharat.
History was scripted in the forecourt
of Rashtrapati Bhawan on the evening
of 26th May 2014 as Narendra Modi
took oath as the Prime Minister of
India after a historic mandate from
the people of India. In Narendra
Modi, the people of India see a
dynamic, decisive and developmentoriented leader who has emerged as a
ray of hope for the dreams and
aspirations of a billion Indians. His
focus on development, eye for detail
and efforts to bring a qualitative
difference in the lives of the poorest
of the poor have made Narendra Modi
a popular and respected leader across
the length and breadth of India.
Narendra Modi’s life has been a
journey of courage, compassion and
constant hardwork. At a very young
age he had decided to devote his life
in service of the people. He displayed
his skills as a grass root level worker,
an organiser and an administrator
during his 13 year long stint as the
Chief Minister of his home state of
Gujarat, where he ushered a paradigm
shift towards pro-people and proactive good governance.
Narendra Modi’s path to creating a
Vibrant Gujarat as a shining
example of Development and
Governance did not come easy. It was a path littered with adversities and
challenges. His performance is reflected in the many Awards his
government received from both National and International media. Shri
Narendra Modi as India’s Prime Minister brings with him a rich and handson experience as one of India’s most successful Chief Ministers and one of
its finest of Administrators.
