Greetings Fellow Golfers,
Well, Spring is almost upon us, but you can’t tell by the weather we have been having lately. Pictured above are what we call ‘Iced
Greens’. The easiest way to explain why we have to do this is to compare it to orange growers in Florida. Late Winter when the days
start getting warmer, the orange tree starts to blossom. These blossoms are the actual fruit. But Ole Man Winter hasn’t decided to
leave yet so he decides to send a frost. When this happens, the orange growers will turn on their sprinklers so ice will form over the
blossoms, thus protecting the ensuing fruit. This is the same with Bermuda greens. The ice forms an insulating barrier that protects
the grass, thus making sure we have good greens to putt on in the Spring. Speaking of Spring, on March 20 st, Spring is officially here.
Time also changes this month. On March 8th we spring into Daylight Savings Time. Don’t forget to turn your clocks ahead one hour.
Don’t want any confusion on the 1st tee on Sunday. Latest ‘Special’ is that of new rates from March 1st to March 31st. For just $20.00
non-members can play and ride ALL DAY. Members can ride ALL DAY for just $12.00. Only rule is that you can’t leave and come
back later to play more. For upcoming specials you can go to www.facebook.com and look for Goldsboro Municipal Golf Course. A
link is also provided on our website www.gmgcgolf.com If everyone doesn’t know by now, the City has purchased the Goldsboro Country
Club property. In June, 2015 the Golf Course Pro Shop will be operating from this new location. I for one, am very excited about this! More news
to come. One thing that has to be brought to everyone’s attention is that of Handicap fees. Yearly fee of $20 has to be paid by March
31st if you wish to remain in the system. Those not paid up will have to be put on the inactive list (fees are charged to us by amount of
participants). Don’t forget that lockers are available for rent in the Men’s and Women’s bathrooms for $24.00 per year. Goldsboro Municipal is blessed with hosting 4 area High School golf teams. They are Goldsboro High, Rosewood High, Eastern Wayne and we have
added, Wayne Country Day. We also have Spring Creek using our facilities. These are great schools with a bunch of great junior golfers lead by some great coaches. Their practice days are Monday thru Thursday (3:00 to closing) with various matches scattered
throughout the week with a season lasting from February to the end of April. At times during these afternoons the course can appear
to be a little crowded. But rest assured, the Pro Shop and Coaches will work closely together to where our golfing public continues
with access that is acceptable to everyone. Just please remember, the golfing youth is our future.
