Prelude
Welcome & Announcements
*Gathering Song: ELW 768 “Lead Me, Guide Me”
v 1-All; v 2-Women; v 3-Men; Refrain-All
*Call to Worship:
P: We gather to worship in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the
Holy Spirit, who lead and guide us now as we begin our Lenten journey.
C: Amen.
P: During this season we are reminded of our baptismal covenant with God,
as we contemplate the meaning of our own baptism into Jesus' death and
resurrection.
C: We walk this journey of Lent together as children of God, saved and daily renewed
through the waters of baptism.
P: As Jesus was baptized and then led into the wilderness to be tempted, the very Spirit of God was
with him...to inspire, protect, and guide him.
C: We are encouraged to rely on the same presence and power of God in our own struggles
and temptations.
P: Lent is a time to change ways and face a new direction; to grow spiritually, trusting in God's
guidance and protection.
All: Let us pray that God's love through Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit will
strengthen our hearts during this Holy Season of Lent, leading us from temptation to
trust, from fear to love, from sadness to joy!
*Prayer of the Day:
C: Holy God, heavenly Father, in the waters of the flood you saved the chosen, and in the
wilderness of temptation you protected your Son from sin. Renew us in the gift of baptism.
May your holy angels be with us, that the wicked foe may have no power over us, that we
may walk safely through the wilderness of this world toward the life you alone can give,
through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord who lives and reigns with you and the Holy
Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
*Song: WOV 660 “I Want Jesus to Walk with Me”
Confession: (Sit or kneel)
C: Lord God, we confess that we are tossed about by the storms of life, and are swayed by the
winds of our society. We see clouds on the horizon and we are afraid. Forgive us, and give
us a faith that trusts in you, even when we don't understand the struggles in our lives.
Inspire us with the strength of Jesus, who faced temptations and triumphed over evil.
Words of Assurance:
P: God's eternal love for us through Jesus' death on the cross has paid the price for our sins, and
through the Holy Spirit we are given the power and strength to resist temptation...the power to
trust and walk as God's forgiven people in Jesus name.
-2Children's Message
HEARING THE WORD OF THE LORD
Psalm 25:1-10 (read responsively)
L: To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul.
C: My God, I put my trust in you; let me not be put to shame, nor let my enemies triumph
over me.
L: Let none who look to you be put to shame; rather let those be put to shame who are treacherous.
C: Show me your ways, O Lord, and teach me your paths.
L: Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; in you have I trusted
all the day long.
C: Remember, O Lord, your compassion and love, for they are from everlasting.
L: Remember not the sins of my youth and my transgressions; remember me according to your
steadfast love and for the sake of your goodness, O Lord.
C: You are gracious and upright, O Lord; therefore you teach sinners in your way.
L: You lead the lowly in justice and teach the lowly your way.
C: All your paths, O Lord, are steadfast love and faithfulness to those who keep your
covenant and your testimonies.
*Announcement of Gospel:
P: The Holy Gospel according to Mark, the 1st chapter
C: Glory to you, O Lord!
Gospel . . . . . Mark 1:9-15
9
In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. 10And just
as he was coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens torn apart and the Spirit descending like a
dove on him. 11 And a voice came from heaven, "You are my Son, the Beloved; with you I am well
pleased." 12 And the Spirit immediately drove him out into the wilderness. 13He was in the wilderness
forty days, tempted by Satan; and he was with the wild beasts; and the angels waited on him. 14Now
after John was arrested, Jesus came to Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God, 15 and saying, "The
time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has come near, repent, and believe in the good news."
P: The Gospel of the Lord.
C: Praise to you, O Christ!

Baptism is an action of God. In the waters of Baptism, we are reborn children of God and
given eternal life. Baptism liberates us from sin and death by joining us to Jesus Christ.
S:
We present Aubree Ann Bonsack to receive the Sacrament of Holy Baptism.
L:
You have presented Aubree Ann, for Baptism. Will you share Christ’s love with her by your
words and actions? Will you treasure her as a special gift from God and care for her with the
love of Christ? Will you pray for her, that God’s presence fills her life?
P/S: We will.
L:
Will you teach her how much Jesus loves her? Will you teach her that she is a child of God
forever? Will you bring her to the gathering of God’s people so that she grows up worshiping
and praising God? Will you teach her to pray, introduce her to the Scriptures, and see that she
is given every opportunity to grow in Christ?
P/S: We will.
L:
I ask you to publicly take a stand for Jesus Christ. Do you renounce the forces of evil, the
devil and his empty promises?
P/S: I do.
L:
Do you believe in God, our Creator, Savior, and Counselor?
P/S/C: I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus
Christ, God's only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the
virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he
descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is
seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the
dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
Baptism
L:
Aubree Ann Bonsack, I baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy
Spirit.
Prayers of Thanksgiving and Dedication
L: God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, we give you thanks for freeing your sons and daughters
from the power of sin and for raising them up to a new life through this holy sacrament. Pour
your Holy Spirit upon Aubree Ann; the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel
and might, the spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord, the spirit of joy in your presence.
C: Amen.

L: Aubree Ann Bonsack child of God, you have been sealed by the Holy Spirt and marked with the
cross of Christ forever.
Baptismal Candle
L: Let your Light so shine before others that they may see your good works and glorify your Father
in heaven.
Prayer
L: O God, the giver of all life, look with kindness upon the father and mother of this child. Let
them ever rejoice in the gift you have given them. Make them teachers and examples of
righteousness for their child. Strengthen them in their own Baptism so they may share eternally
with their child the salvation you have given them, through Jesus Christ our Lord.
C: Amen.
L: Members of Good Shepherd, you have witnessed the Baptism of Aubree Ann. Will you pray for
her and share your faith with her? Will you remind her that she belongs to Christ and that as
Christ’s people we all belong to each other?
C: We will.
L: Please, welcome your new sister in the name of Jesus.
C: Aubree Ann, you are a child of God with us. Together we belong to Christ and together we
