ORHS Cosmetology!
Congratulations to Mrs. Dunn's Cosmetology II Seniors for
an AMAZING District competition last week! The class
traveled to the CHI Academy in Houston, TX and Lamar
Institute of Technology in Beaumont, TX to participate in the
2015 District 7 SkillsUSA competition. The class collected
Gold, Silver and Bronze this year! Senior Brittany Duncan
received the bronze medal in Men's Haircutting and will
advance to State competition in Corpus Christi in March.
Also advancing to State is senior Alexis Morris who
competed in Make-up Artistry Job Demonstration Skills and
took the Silver medal in her event. Senior Jessica Barton
submitted a Hair coloring project which received a blue
ribbon in her division and her project will advance to State.
The Cosmetology Knowledge Bowl team, which consists of
five senior members (Fionna Markey, Kristi Shaw, Sabrina
Soto, Susanna Thomas and Criss White) took the Gold
medal, earning the title of District 7 Cosmetology Knowledge
Bowl Champions and will also compete to defend their title
in March in Corpus Christi. Congratulations ladies! ORHS is
so proud of you and all of your hard work! Way to go, Cosmo
War Eagles!!

ORHS Band!
On Friday, band students competed at UIL solo and
ensemble contest. We came home with 107 Superior
ratings. That is the highest rating that can be given. In
addition, many of our students qualified to move onto the
State UIL contest which will be held in May in Austin.
Our color guard went to contest on Saturday. The JV guard
placed 9th in their division. The Varsity color guard took
2nd place overall. Congratulations to all that competed!

CONGRATULATIONS to our state swimming & diving
qualifiers for their performance at the state championship.
Sophomore diver Anton Hoherz finished 5th in 1-meter
diving and junior diver Casey Ponton finished 7th. Emily

The Eastbound lane of Robinson road will be closed,
and traffic shifted to the middle lane, this will maintain 2way traffic along Robinson Rd.

The Northbound lane of Maplewood drive will be closed
in phases according to the approved Traffic Control Plan; the
dates for this are listed in the attached exhibit. Southbound
traffic will not be interrupted.

signs that were installed this past weekend. Each sign has a
push button to press when you are going to cross the street.
Pushing the button will activate a flashing light to let drivers
know that someone is in the crosswalk.

Students interested in taking debate and being on the debate
team next school year should see Coach Christensen in P18.
There will be a general interest debate meeting held in
February with the date to be announced. Students should be
aware that there are participation requirements in order to
be in the debate program. Students enrolled in the Debate I
class are on the Novice Debate Team for ORHS. Students in
Debate II, III, & IV are selected by the coach and are on the
Varsity Debate Team.
The ORHS Debate Team is currently ranked in the top 5% in
the Nation and the top 3% in the state. We are ranked #3 in
our district. If you enjoy logical argumentation, working as
part of a team, traveling and increasing your research,
writing and speaking skills, then debate may be for you.

Beware! Not Raising Funds for ORHS!
In the past several weeks parents and business owners in our
community have been solicited by FMG Print Solutions, a
group based in Fort Worth. This company purports that it is
selling ads on behalf of the Oak Ridge High School Baseball
team. FMG Print Solutions is not selling ads on behalf of our
baseball team or any other school organization. None of the
money from ads purchased from this company comes to Oak
Ridge High School or benefits our school in any way.
To know if a company is raising funds on behalf of our
school or any ORHS student group, you can call the school at
832-592-5462 to verify the representations made by the
company or check our website. Typically we make our
patrons aware of ongoing fundraisers through various types
of communications with parents such as our campus
newsletter, website or communications from one of our staff
members or student clubs.

ACT or SAT!
Planning to take an ACT or SAT this year? Please remember
that a TEST TICKET and PHOTO ID are required when you
arrive to take your test. If you do not have a photo ID, you
can have a student ID made in the ORHS library PRIOR TO
TEST DAY. If you need to print your test ticket, you may
print one in the College and Career Center (B202) PRIOR TO
TEST DAY!!
Driver License Attendance Verification
(Verification of Enrollment – VOE)
To obtain a driver’s license in the state of Texas, a student
between the ages of 15 and 18 must annually provide to the
Texas Department of Public Safety a form obtained from the
school verifying that the student has met the 90 percent
attendance requirement for the semester preceding the date
of application. The student can request this form at their
Assistant Principal’s office. Requests are typically processed
within 24-48 hours. Students should remember that
buildings are closed during spring and winter break as well
as holidays and should plan accordingly.
CONROE ISD CHECK ACCEPTANCE POLICY
In the event that a check written to Oak Ridge High School,
Cafeteria or District Office is returned unpaid by your bank,
Conroe ISD or its agent (CheckSmart Recovery) will
redeposit your check electronically. Additionally, you
understand and agree that we may electronically collect a
returned check fee of $30.00 plus applicable sales tax. The
use of a check for payment is your Acknowledgement and
Acceptance of this policy and its terms. You may reach
CheckSmart Recovery at (888) 851-6634.

You can take the ASVAB test at ORHS on Thursday, March 12 at 7:00 AM. The ASVAB program administers a series of eight
short tests that help you identify your skills in a variety of areas. Regardless of your plans after high school, this test
measures aptitudes that are related to success in different jobs as well as training and education programs. It is highly
encouraged to help you determine a career path. It is also encouraged if you are considering joining the military. Register on
Naviance Family Connection (click on “colleges” then “upcoming college visits”). Be sure to come by the CCC (B202) and
receive an overview guide.

These are workshops to help parents complete the FAFSA. Our wish is that you walk out of the workshop with your

Advisors from some of our local colleges and universities here to help you. Please bring copies of your 2014 W-2s and your
2014 Income Tax Forms (if you have filed them).

Executive Women International (EWI) - Houston Chapter Scholarship – Deadline 3/6 - $7,000
Seniors only. Open to male and female applicants. Plan to pursue a degree in a professional field of study. Must have a
minimum of 3.0/4.0, financial need, and have contributed to the community by involvement in extracurricular activities,
work, religious or volunteer activities. Transcript and 2 personal recommendations are required. The application can be
downloaded using the "application form" link on Naviance. The completed application must be turned into the CCC by
March 9. All applications will be reviewed by the ORHS Scholarship Committee and one applicant will be chosen to
represent ORHS in the competition.
Gullo Dealerships Scholarship Program – Deadline 3/13 - $1,500
Seniors only. For students planning to attend 2-yr or 4-yr college or trade or vocational school. Academic achievement
(GPA of 2.6 or higher), official transcript, character, leadership, community involvement, recommendations, and essay will
be evaluated. One scholarship will be awarded to each high school in Montgomery County! You must submit 3 copies of
your application. Applications can downloaded and typed by clicking on the "application form" link on Naviance. Note: The
Scholarship Deadline on the application is 3/20 but that is during Spring Break. We must mail it by 3/13!
Order of the Eastern Star – Conroe Chapter 710 – Deadline 3/27 - $750
Seniors only. GPA of C or better. Two letters of recommendation, a statement of personal goals which includes the name
of the college or university you plan to attend, and an unofficial transcript. Application can be downloaded using the
"application form" link on Naviance. Three CISD seniors will receive the award. Deadline is a "received by" deadline.
Max Schlotter Scholarship (Education Major) – Deadline 3/31 - $1,000
Seniors only. For students pursuing education degree at any four year college in Texas. Academic standing,
recommendations and short essay required. To apply go to www.esc6.net or click on the "website" link on Naviance.
Application can be downloaded and saved. Print the completed application and sign before mailing. Application must be
typed. Deadline is a "received by" deadline.

SENIORS! DO YOU NEED TO TAKE THE TSI TEST? The TSI will be offered at numerous CISD high school campuses. You
must complete a LoneStar College Application (http://www.lonestar.edu/admissions-application.htm) and obtain a LSC
Student ID#. The Pre-Assessment Video must also be viewed prior to taking the test. Graduating Seniors will pay a $29
testing fee. Re-testers will be charged $10 per section.
