As everyone can see, Phase 1 is coming along! The new tennis courts are close to completion, we have begun construction on the new Fleet Center and the Tennis Center is in the process of being completely rebuilt. We are turning dirt and making progress! When Past Commodore Tom Bryan and I first designed The Big Plan, we were most excited about Phase 2 which consists of upgrading our Fitness Center and adding a Children’s Activity A key driver in the success of any private club is membership retention and replenishment. In order to retain our current Members and attract new Members, it is essential for us as a Club to provide a great value for your dues dollars. An analogy that I like to refer to is that of the Olympic Rings. Each circle interlinks together to represent the different continents that athletes travel from to partake in the Olympic Games. At The Florida Yacht Club, our circles are interlinked too and they represent the many different areas of Catering & Social involvement for Food & Tennis & Events Beverage Croquet our Members. We believe that the Pool & Fleet & Water Fitness more circles each Sports of our Members are engaged in, the more satisfaction our Members will experience on the whole. Higher satisfaction equates to higher retention rates. This year, the Staff, Board of Governors and Committees are focusing on providing the finest service, products and events within their circles of influence. Center to the property. Over the next 60 - 90 days, we will work hard to finalize Phase 2 of The Big Plan and we look forward to presenting it to our Members! We are off to a very strong start in 2015. I want to thank each you and again respectfully ask that each Member use the Club more. Join a committee, play tennis, sail or work out. Get involved and enjoy our Club! J. Palmer Clarkson Commodore Please plan to attend our Member Reception & Summer Camp Open House on Thursday, March 5th from 5:30 - 7:00 pm. This will be a fun, relaxed gathering of Members and guests. The summer activity programs will be unveiled for tennis, sailing, our waterman’s program and more! Learn about some amenities that are available for the entire family as you enjoy complimentary wine, beer and light appetizers. In addition, one of the newest Members of our team, Activities Director Naomi Easterling, will be present to share her vision and introduce much anticipated programs for Members of all ages. We encourage you to bring a prospective Member to this event as this is a great way to show off all that is wonderful about being a Member at The Florida Yacht Club! To show our appreciation, if your prospective Member participates in the Introductory Program by March 31st, a dining credit of $100 will be awarded to both of you, just for attending. Again, thank you for allowing me to be a part of your “piece of paradise” as we look forward to a great year ahead. Please feel free to contact me with any suggestions. Carol Edell General Manager, CCM Featured Reciprocal Club: Captiva Island Yacht Club Club Manager Frederico D’Amelia welcomes you to the Captiva Island Yacht Club! This club is ideally located on the beautiful island of Captiva. There you will find spectacular views of miles of pristine Gulf beaches and magnificent sunsets. From the back Commodores Porch, you will see Buck Key, a preserved mangrove island between peaceful Pine Island Sound and the Roosevelt Channel. As part of the Florida Council of Yacht Clubs, this beachfront club invites members and visitors to enjoy its legendary TGIFs with gourmet food, great fun and good friends. The best kept secret on Captiva Island, CIYC is rumored to be the ideal place to watch for the “green flash” at sunset. The club’s purpose has always been to provide a unique dining experience and friendly atmosphere for its members and guests. CIYC is open for lunch Wednesday through Saturday from 12:00 to 2:30 pm and for dinner Tuesday through Saturday from 6:00 to 9:00 pm. Last month, we shared the 2015 Membership Initiatives including the Introductory Program, Commodores Council and Reinstatement Amnesty. As Commodore Clarkson explained: “The Club’s major focus in 2015 is to continue to deliver value to all of our Club’s Members. In 2015, the Board of Governors and the Club’s Management Team will work hard to add new Members. We need your help in order to be successful! Please bring your friends and neighbors to our Club. Show them that we are a Club full of warm and friendly people with a great facility and staff.” Membership Join us for the Member Reception & Summer Camp Open House Thursday, March 5th | 5:30 - 7:00 pm On March 5th at 5:30 pm, we will have our first Member Reception & Summer Camp Open House. We have high expectations for this event, with these three objectives: • Increase Enjoyment - Complimentary beer, wine and Chef ’s select hors d’oeuvres, socialization with fun games and activities for all ages. • Expand Usage - Booths, with staff and material to showcase the many activities available to FYC Members, plus encouragement to try something new. Members who get involved in more than one activity derive greater value from their Membership. • Attract Members - This is the perfect opportunity to introduce prospective Members to FYC. All department heads will be present to talk about their area of our Club. There will be plenty of information about Summer Camps and activities as well. What a great way to learn about all that FYC has to offer and encourage prospective Members to sign up for the Introductory Program! If your guest signs-up for the Introductory Program, within seven days of the Open House, you, as the sponsor, and the participant will both receive a $100 Food & Beverage Credit. Jodi Weinbecker Sailing Director The Yachtsman of the Year Dinner 2014 Orange Peel Regatta Friday, March 20th - Sunday, March 22nd For over 40 years, FYC has hosted the Orange Peel Regatta on the banks of the St. Johns River. In 2015, we are expecting over 30 boats and close to 100 sailors to come out and enjoy our hospitality and our fabulous Club facilities. Volunteerism is one of the cornerstones on which our Club was built. No sailing experience is necessary, so please let us know if you can help us out on any of the days listed below. Also, if you have housing available nearby, whether on your boat, or at your apartment or home, and want to volunteer your space to house sailors or visiting race management, please let us know. Another way to volunteer would be to take visitors and spectators out on your boat to view the races from the water. We can use you and your boat any of the three days. The story of the Recanati Winery, a producer of high quality Mediterranean wines, begins with a profound bond with the Land of Israel coupled with a passion for fine wines. With the creation of the winery, Lenny Recanati’s cherished, lifelong dream to produce truly world-class wines has finally reached fruition. Chief winemaker at Recanati is Lewis Pasco, an Americanborn graduate of the U.C. Davis wine program and an accomplished chef. Formerly a winemaker at Napa Valley’s Chimney Rock and for Sonoma’s Marimar Torres, Lewis brings to Recanati a devotion to artistry and craftsmanship in winemaking. This dedication, combined with Recanati’s state-of-the-art winemaking facility, has led to an impressive line of wines including Recanati Cabernet which scored 93 points in the most recent Wine Spectator and part of the Top 100 most interesting wines of 2014.
