60th Wedding Anniversary
Wayne and Barbara Marquart
of rural Rawson celebrated their
60th wedding anniversary with a
family dinner. Marquart, a retired
Eagle Township farmer, and the
former Barbara Grose were married
February 20, 1955. Their wedding
took place at Rawson Evangelical
United Brethren Church (now New
Hope United Methodist, where they
are active members).
In 1956-57 they resided in
Schwabach/Nuremburg Germany
where Wayne was stationed with
the US Army. Both are retired from
Cory-Rawson School.
They are the parents of a son,
James W. Marquart of Columbus
and two daughters, Dr. Jill (Roger)
Fox of Port Clinton & Julie V. (Ken)
Horton of rural Findlay. They also
have five grandchildren, Daniel,
Megan, April, Michael & Matthew
Horton.

Cygnet celebrated their 50th
Wedding Anniversary on February
20th, 2015.
They have been blessed with three
beautiful daughters (Joanie Straley,
Lisa Tatham and Jennifer Scannell),
seven grandchildren (Chad Ryder,
Tyler Tatham, Drew Dewulf, Trent
Tatham, Bridget Dewulf, Seth
McCartney and Parker Scannell) and
an adorable great grandson, Aiden
Tatham.
They love spending time with
their friends and family, camping
and traveling to destinations near
and far.

anniversary party for early spring but

Union shuts down final major
East Coast Confederate port

celebrating our heritage during
the 150th anniversary of the Civil
War draws primarily from wartime dispatches credited to The
Associated Press or other accounts
distributed through the AP and
other historical sources.
The Union army, in its latest
blow to the Confederacy, captured
Wilmington, North Carolina, this
week 150 years ago in the Civil War.
The federal victory meant President abraham Lincoln’s troops had
shut down the last major East Coast
port of the Confederacy, and a criti-
cal route for supplies to the southern army.
The fighting that led to the fall of
Wilmington began in mid-February
as Union forces confronted Confederates defending Fort Fisher. Union
gunboats pounded the fort and Confederates ultimately had to pull out

the night of Feb. 18, 1865, and early
the following day as Union forces
marched toward the rear of the fort.
Between Feb. 21 and 22 of that year,
federal forces put up relentless pressure as the fighting forced the Confederacy to remove its forces and
retreat from Wilmington.

Carl and Helen Gierke, Findlay,
OH celebrated their 69th anniversary
on February 23rd, 2015.
Carl, a WWII veteran, is retired
from the Hercules Tire and Rubber
Co., while Helen retired from
Autolite/Ford in Fostoria.
After many years of travelling
all over the country, and spending
much of their time in Yuma, Arizona,
they’re settled back down again here
in Findlay.
They have two sons, Tom (Vicki)

fair and began dating shortly into
their sophomore year of high school.
Carlie graduated with her
Associate degree in Occupational
Therapy Assistant and is working in
the area. Along with working on his
family farm, Caleb graduated with
his Associate degree in Agricultural
Equipment Technology, and is
currently an Agricultural Technician
at Archbold Equipment in Ottawa.
The couple plans to reside in the
