Here's a cost-effective solution for
adding closed circuit cameras to new
or existing monitors. Omron's video
switcher lets you connect up to
8 cameras and 4 monitors. Other
suppliers limit the number to
8 cameras to 2 monitors, which
can swell costs when you need a
small system expansion.

THE LONWORKS ADVANTAGE
FOR ENHANCED RELIABILITY
®
PROFILE:
Omron has more than 60 years of experience
manufacturing reliable controls, starting with a timing
relay for X-ray machines in 1933. Today Omron is a
$4.67 billion company with sales and local application
support staff throughout North and South America,
Europe, South East Asia, China and Japan. We invest
in R&D continuously to bring you technologically
advanced products useful in managing security, access
control and complete correctional facilities.

Omron offers LONWORKS technology from Echelon as
a networking tool for facility control and monitoring
systems. LONWORKS and Omron's Smart Switch provides
the built-in redundancy for reliable, continuous operation
even when there is a break in the cable loop connecting
controls. This "self-healing loop" capability provides for
continuous reliable monitoring and control of cells even
in the event of a break in the cable.
SYSTEM FLEXIBILITY
Omron offers several important advantages that
give you the flexibility to modify, expand and replicate
a system as your needs change:
• Longtime manufacturer of programmable logic
controllers known for enduring support of
hardware installations
4 cells
Omron's Smart Junction Box
consolidates short runs of
switch and solenoid wiring and
reports door and lighting
status to the control system
over twisted pair cable
In the example above, each group of four cells is
connected in daisy-chain with twisted pair cable.
Benefits of this redundant system include:
• Reduced cost of wiring and installation
• Fewer cables to troubleshoot
• Enhanced reliability from Smart Switch and
built-in system diagnostics
RELIABLE RELAYS
FOR DOOR CONTROLS
• Dedication of resources to establish compatibility
with CCTV, intercom, access control and fire/smoke
detection systems suppliers
Omron’s world-renowned relays provide
the reliable service required for door control relay
boards. You can find just the right relay for your
design from Omron’s wide selection of relays.
The most popular choice for door controls
include compact printed circuit board power
relays and socket-mounting general-purpose relays.
• Networks feature a redundant fiber loop
configuration to enhance reliable operation

• Controllers can communicate via Ethernet to
supervisory computers
Let Omron help you achieve cost-effective
automation of door control and monitoring.
We understand the needs of architects, consulting
engineers, and integrators as they work to achieve the
security control goals set out by clients ranging from
departments of corrections, universities, airport and
port authorities, and other government agencies.

BLOCKS
Many correctional facilities and older security systems
use large switch banks backed by relay panels to control
doors, cameras, intercoms, lights, and telephones. Such
systems do not make a graceful transition to today's
need for computer reporting. Nor do they promote the
safety and fast troubleshooting that a single, centralized
equipment room can provide. Here are key reasons to
change over to an Omron programmable controllerbased system:
Save fabrication time]– Turn around jobs faster,
and meet or beat your deadlines with these wiring
organizers. Omron's high-density I/O modules for
PLCs connect with pre-terminated cables to the input
and output terminal blocks.
Function test panels in your facility before
shipping]– Test the PLC and terminal blocks by wiring
input blocks to the output blocks to test contact point
operation. Your prefabricated control panels can be
shipped to the site for immediate connection to field
I/O devices.
• Easier to modify programs
• Quicker to troubleshoot
• Readily communicates with computers

procedures can be displayed on the same screen
to aid proper response
Labor-saving installation]– Reduce the amount
of time it takes to wire, number and document
individual inputs and outputs directly to a relay panel
or PLC.
Output blocks]– The 16-point blocks use plug-in
replaceable 10-amp relays. Pre-terminated cables
connect the terminal block to the PLC's high-density
64 point output module.
Input blocks]– These blocks and pre-terminated
cable centralize input points to a 64-point high-density
input module on the PLC. Connect inputs for graphic
control panels, smoke or fire alarms, and door position
switches through the PLC.
• Time-saving automated reporting
• More cost-effective to maintain the system

TRAINING AND SUPPORT
Over the last 10 years, Omron has successfully
completed projects for clients in the following applications:
Omron believes in the long-term value of training.
Our hands-on training promotes more efficient
programming so your system runs smoothly, with
faster debugging at installation and reduced troubleshooting during operation. We provide training on-site
as well as at local distributors, regional offices and at
Omron headquarters.
• Automation of the monitoring and control systems
in new prison facilities
• Cost-effective retrofits to existing facilities

Quick troubleshooting and change-out]– If the
PLC and block are operating properly, then it is easy to
track down the failed device in the field. If the connection
between PLC and terminal block fails, just replace the
pre-terminated cable that plugs into the high-density
I/O module and the terminal block. It saves hours of
sorting wires and loosening and retightening terminal
screws if using conventional relay panels.

Clean panels with more connections]– Pack more
into a neat control cabinet than ever before. Omron's
terminal blocks help organize the field wiring. They
connect back to the PLC's 64-point I/O modules
with pre-terminated cables that reduce control
cabinet clutter.
• Faster installation
• Security in federal and state court houses for
moving personnel to/from chambers
• Airport gate access security
• U.S. customs-processing areas
Omron continually adds to its portfolio of satisfied
clients. Upon request, we will provide project references.
Technical support is available 24 hours a day, every
day, using a toll-free number. Replacement parts can be
supplied on a next-flight-out basis. The package of
support services is tailored to the needs of each system
and will be recommended as part of the proposal.
INTEGRATE FACILITY CONTROL WITH

At the heart of Omron's monitoring and control
system solutions are reliable, capable programmable
logic controllers (PLCs). They provide the fast
throughput for thousands of control points to give
security and corrections officers up-to-the-second
information and control of key access points.
These compact and versatile PLCs expand easily
to handle additional inputs and outputs. Remote I/O
terminal blocks and intelligent devices fit in existing
chases, reducing the space devoted to controls in the
central control room.
Omron's large and small rack PLCs support several
important communications levels:

• Computer interface over Omron's SYSMAC NET
high-speed local area network, using a fiber-optic
media based ring topology with loop-back
for redundancy and reliability
• All Omron PLCs support high speed data exchange
with one another using a common SYSMAC LINK
or Controller LINK protocol
High Density Input and Output modules (64 points
per card) make it easy to design a compact control
installation. They connect with pre-terminated cables
to eliminate a spaghetti tangle of wires at the PLC.

Door control and door position monitoring are achieved with
Omron’s high-speed SYSMAC NET local area network. Up to 126
nodes, including touchscreen stations, network computers, and PLCs
can reside on each network. Multiple SYSMAC NET networks can be
connected to suit facility layout and security strategies. The automatic
loop-back function provides redundancy in the event of a cable break,
and automatic node bypass side-steps a powered down or disabled
device. SYSMAC NET is connected by fiber-optic cables for reliable
data transmission.

Omron’s SYSMAC LINK network provides an economical alternative
when expansion needs can be satisfied by up to 62 nodes. The easily
programmed alternate network provides redundancy in the event of a
cable break. Automatic node bypass allows the controlling PLC to
continue communicating with other devices on the network when one
node is powered down. SYSMAC LINK networks can be configured
with fiber-optic media for highest reliability in data transmission or with
coaxial cable to meet budgetary limitations.
