Persons who apply for services at federally mandated voter registration agencies may register at those agencies during
their regular business hours.
The books for registration of voters will close at the end of the business day on the 17th day of March, 2015. Registration
will remain closed until the 8th day of April, 2015.
A citizen of the United States who is 18 years of age or older, or will have attained the age of 18 years at the next
election, must register before he or she can vote. Registration is open until the close of business on the 21st day before
the election.
When a voter has been registered according to law, the voter shall remain registered until the voter changes name by
marriage, divorce or other legal proceeding or changes residence. The voter may re-register in person, by mail or other
delivery when registration is open or the voter may re-register on Election Day.
Application forms shall be provided by the county election officer or the Secretary of State upon request. The application
shall be signed by the applicant under penalty of perjury.
Notice of Demonstration of Vote Tabulation Equipment - Pursuant to K.S.A. 25-4610 and K.S.A. 25-4411, a test of
the Electronic and Optical Scan Voting Equipment which will be used for the April 7th General Election, will be held at the
Shawnee County Election Office at 911 SW 37th St., beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 31, 2015 and continuing
until a test of all of the equipment has been completed. The test shall be observed by at least two election inspectors of
different political parties and shall be open to the news media and the public. The same test shall be repeated after the
conclusion of the election.
Notice of County Canvass Date - Notice is hereby given that the official canvass of the general election returns for
Shawnee County will begin at 9:00 a.m., Monday, April 13, 2015, at the Shawnee County Election Office, 911 SW 37th
St., Topeka, Kansas.
Assistance for Persons with Disabilities - Those voters with special needs who require assistance should call the Election Office at (785) 251-5900.

A Resolution Establishing Fees For The Shawnee County
Coroner’s Office
Sponsored by Commissioner Cook
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners desires
to establish certain fees to offset the costs of the materials, facilities
and services of the Shawnee County Coroner’s Office; and
WHEREAS, the Board finds that the fees charged by the
Shawnee County Coroner (“Coroner”) as provided herein are reasonably
related to the actual and necessary costs of providing the materials,
facilities and services for which the fee is charged.
NOW, THEREFORE, the Board of County Commissioners
of the County of Shawnee, Kansas, meeting in regular session this 19th
day of February, 2015 and intending to exercise its powers of home
rule pursuant to K.S.A. 19-101a, does hereby resolve as follows:
1.
Cremation Fee - whenever cremation of
remains is requested by a person entitled to control the disposition
of the remains, the Shawnee County Coroner’s Office shall charge
and collect a fee in the amount of Fifty Dollars and NO/100 ($50.00).
However, no cremation fee shall be charged or collected for a decedent less than one year of age. Funeral home accounts past due at
least forty-five (45) days shall not receive approvals on requests for
cremations.
2.
Relinquished Body Fee – whenever any
hospital, hospice or nursing home relinquishes a body to the Coroner’s
office about which the Coroner did not decide to perform an investigation pursuant to K.S.A. §22a-231, the Shawnee County Coroner’s
Office shall charge and collect a fee in the amount of Five Hundred
Dollars and NO/100 ($500.00). No relinquishment shall take place
unless:
a.
the Coroner consents;
b.
The relinquishing entity provides all
demographic information requested
by the Coroner; and
c.
The relinquishing entity certifies in
writing that it has done a thorough
investigation and found no person
who qualifies as next-of-kin.
The Coroner may charge an additional seventy dollars
($70.00) per hour, for time spent in excess of thirty minutes if required
for investigation pertaining to identification of next-of-kin and for arrangements related to disposition of the remains.
3.
Fees for Non-Coroner Cases - In accordance with K.S.A. §65-2412, death certification in non-coroner cases
should be completed by the last physician of record. In Shawnee
County, a physician who has attended to the decedent within the
past year or is prescribing medications to the decedent at the time of
death will be required to certify the death unless the death falls under
the jurisdiction of the coroner. Non-Coroner cases shall be subject
to the following fees:
a. Medical examination and death certification of non-coroner cases: $500/case
b. Research and correction fee for improperly
certified cause of death: $150/case
4.
Non-Coroner Case Transportation Fee - any
charges by any entity delivering non-coroner cases to the County
Coroner’s office shall be the responsibility of the person or persons who are financially responsible for the final disposition of the
deceased’s remains.
5.
All fees collected pursuant to this Resolution
shall be paid over to the Shawnee County Treasurer and deposited
into the general fund of the County.
6.
Resolution No. 2011-19 and any other Resolutions in
conflict herewith are hereby rescinded.
7. This Resolution shall take effect upon publication in the official County newspaper.
