2015-2016 Scheduling packets went home with students, Wednesday, February 25, 2015.
*All required, completed and signed forms are due on Wednesday, March 4th.
These forms include:

If required forms are not completed as requested or turned in at time noted the
students’ schedule will be completed by the counseling department.

Counselors’ will be available before and after school (7:00-7:30am and 2:30–
3:00pm) to assist students with imputing their online course requests. All course
requests MUST be entered by 3:00pm, March 3rd.

This is a reminder for all males: You are required by law to register for the
Selective Service within 30 days of your 18th birthday. To register log on to the selective
service website at www.sss.gov. If you need additional information see the counselor's
office or the posters that are posted around the school.

New 2012-2013: Some colleges and universities are now requiring that ACT scores for prospective
students come directly from the ACT.

ACT plus writing: $52.50
Late Fee: $22.00
 Students on free or reduced lunch can pick up a waiver form in the counselors’ office
(Maximum 2 ACT tests).
 You can take the ACT test a maximum of 12 times!


When you register
You are now required to submit a photo of yourself for identification purposes. The photo will be printed on
your ticket and on the score report ACT sends to your high school. Your photo will be valid for two years from
the date it is added to your ACT record.
You can upload a photo from computer, mobile device, or submit a paper photo.
Beginning this year, all grade 11 students in Missouri public schools are
required to take the ACT on Tuesday, April 28, 2015. This required exam will
be free (ACT Testing fee is $38.00).
LRHS will continue to be a testing center for the Saturday ACT exams in
October, December, and February. We also offer an ACT Prep Workshop
through an outside vendor (ZAPS) before the October and April testes.

College Visits and Information
College Visit Forms
Reminder: You must turn in the top portion of the visit form to the main office at
least two days prior to your visit. The bottom portion must be signed by the college
admissions office and returned to the high school attendance secretary in order to be
excused for the day(s) absent. If the forms are not completed and returned as
require, the student’s absence(s) will not be excused as a College Visit Day(s).
LR seniors are allowed 2 excused college visits per semester. LR juniors are
allowed 1 excused college visit per semester.

HOBY-Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership
HOBY’s flagship program, the State Leadership Seminar (LS) is designed to help high school sophomores to
recognize their leadership talents and apply them to become effective, ethical leaders in their home, school,
workplace and community.
Selected students attend our three- or four-day seminars and participate in hands-on leadership activities, meet
leaders in their state, and explore their own personal leadership skills while learning how to lead others and
make a positive impact in their community.
The seminar curriculum is based on the Social Change Model of Leadership and develops leadership from three
perspectives: Personal Leadership, Group Leadership, and Leadership for Society.

Mercy Healthcare Career Day

CoxHealth CNA Sponsorship Program
Are you interested in becoming a Certified Nurse Assistant?






Cox College offers four CNA courses each year
Each course is six weeks long and more information can be found at CoxCollege.edu
CoxHealth will sponsor up to ten students in each CNA class
Sponsorship covers $1,600- tuition charge and application fee
Sponsorship does not cover cost of books and uniforms
CNA Sponsorship recipients will agree to work for CoxHealth as a CNA for six months at a full time
rate or one year at a part time rate
 Sponsorship recipients are chosen after completing interviews with a Nurse Recruiter and a Nurse
Manager
 Applications can be turned in to the Talent Acquisition office at Cox South, faxed to 417-269-5450, or

 Acceptance in to the Sponsorship Program is not a guaranteed position within the hospital- recipients
must still apply for CNA positions within the hospital once the CNA program is completed

University of Missouri (Mizzou)
University of Missouri (Mizzou) Chemistry Immersion Program
The Chemistry Immersion Program (CHIP) for students is a low-cost, room and board included, one-week
experience for rising seniors in high school and incoming college freshmen. The goal of the program is to
refresh and enhance students’ knowledge of chemistry and biochemistry, as well as increase the students’
comfort level in the collegiate chemistry and biochemistry laboratory. The registration fee for a CHIP student is
$150.







Students will review core concepts in general chemistry and biochemistry, such as stoichiometry,
thermochemistry, dilutions, and PCR
Complete four two-hour chemistry labs and four two-hour biochemistry labs
Gain valuable experience with laboratory technology and improve lab skills
Be prepared for collegiate chemistry and/or biochemistry course content and technology
Experience life on a college campus
Meet with undergraduate researchers to discuss undergraduate research opportunities at MU
Attend evening seminars and hear from professionals in careers related to science, technology,
engineering, and mathematics

Engineering High School Outreach
High School Weekend- April 18, 2015
Hosted by the Mizzou Engineering Student Council, High School Weekend gives high school sophomores,
juniors and seniors a taste of various engineering disciplines and a flavor of campus life. Groups will meet with
faculty and current engineering students, work in groups on design challenges and dine in the MU residence and
dining halls.
Mother & Daughter Engineering Day-May 2, 2015
Mother & Daughter Engineering Day demonstrates the fun and excitement of engineering and computer
technology to middle school-age young women and their mothers through hands-on activities. Led by the
college’s student chapter of the Society of Women Engineers and women faculty members, participants will
share lunch with current female students, hear special alumni speakers and guests, and finish the day with
activities at the Mizzou Rec Center and a field trip to the campus bookstore. Lunch is provided.
LEGO Camp Weekends
(2nd-9th grades)
LEGO Robotics Camps are designed to foster an understanding of the engineering design process through
individual and small team challenges to build and program robots using LEGOs and LEGO NTX software.
Activities are both educational and fun, and camps feature a low staff to camper ratio ensuring individualized
attention.
Engineering Summer Camp-July 12-17, 2015 & July 19-24, 2015
Mizzou Engineering’s Summer Camps demonstrate the variety of things that engineers do and the tools of their
trades to high school sophomores, juniors and seniors. Mornings are dedicated to learning about MU’s
engineering disciplines from leaders in their fields. Afternoons offer practical experience in labs and through
industry visits, and evenings are spent testing student skills in friendly competitions. Besides trying their hands
at solving engineering challenges, campers will experience life as college students and will have the opportunity
to make new friends and have fun along the way.
Diversity scholarships are available for Summer Camps.

Mizzou School of Medicine - Mini Med
The University of Missouri - School of Medicine offers an exciting and informative summer experience for high
school students interested in a career in medicine. MU’s High School Mini Medical School is a one-week
program that gives students a preview of life as an MU medical student.
The program includes:
Hands-on experience in anatomy, microbiology, and clinical skills
Introduction to MU’s innovative patient-based learning (PBL) curriculum
Seminars on college and medical school entrance and medical school life
In addition, students will attend special sessions with clinical and research specialists and have meaningful
interactions with current medical students, faculty and staff of the School of Medicine.

Mini Med School is intended for students who will begin their senior year in the fall of 2015. Selection criteria
have been modified, and while ACT scores and GPAs are considered, the selection committee is very interested
in the following:

National Youth Leadership Forum (NYLF)-Medicine

Fire Science Technology at OTC is designed for the student who would like to prepare for a career in
firefighting and provides them with knowledge and basic skills in firefighting and following proper procedures
and safety procedures. Students successfully completing the program will be eligible to take the Firefighter I
and II State Certification Exams.
