Fore THE YOUTH
As you start your spring cleaning and take on those garages, basements and
closets lend a hand by helping promote and encourage youth golf. Donate your
old set of golf clubs and equipment that can be used by the local high school golf
teams. As we all know - golf can be an expensive sport and this small donation
could encourage those whose families do not have a golf background and may
have otherwise never had the opportunity to even pick up a golf club. Please
contact Scott Greenway at: [email protected] with donations or you
can drop them of at the club.

never tires of making everyone she meets feel special through
the gift of her delectable creations. Every Friday morning at
precisely 10:00 am, with her four legged babies, Corky and
Harley waiting patiently in the car, Susan appears bearing
gifts from her kitchen for the SC staff. She has managed to
keep a mental note of each person’s favorite and never misses

while attending club events such as the Super Bowl party, New

Her love for cooking reaches into her passion for volunteering
in the community. And yes, her treats have found their way
to countless board meetings, ribbon cuttings, and civic group

has been a strong force in it’s continued success since the
beginning. Susan serves as a board member of the Snellville
Tourism and Trade (STAT) and she is the Vendor Coordinator
for all of the City of Snellville festivals and events. She is
also an active member of the Greater Eastside Chamber of
Commerce and manages to attend their monthly meetings held
here at SC as well as all of the ribbon cuttings to welcome new
businesses into the Snellville and Grayson area.

re: MEMBER 3
re:GOLF
There are only 40 days left until the Master’s starts (38 till Augusta
opens the doors to practice rounds). What does that mean? Good
weather (hopefully). If you’re sick of looking at four walls all day and
night, this month is the time to GET OUT AND PLAY! Springtime
weather is around the corner and this month we get a head start. The
first MGA tournament is this month. The pro shop will continue to run
the Senior Games on Wednesday, until Ed Cragin’s Senior Men’s group
starts up toward the end of the month, and continue on Friday after
Ed starts. As always the Allison group continues play on Tuesday and
Thursday.
This is also the time to remind everyone, especially newer members,
about the lightning detection system. We can expect some
thunderstorms. When the siren sounds on the course that means
lightning is in the area and golfers are to clear the course, but be
smart. If you hear thunder, lightning is near. You don’t have to wait for
the siren. Don’t let your game get in the way of your safety. The time
changes March 8 which will allow you to play or practice after work.
So LET’S PLAY SOME GOLF!

re:GREENS & TURF
During the winter months we are asking all golfers to keep carts on the cart path
at several holes. These are holes that are historically more shaded and water

saturated during the winter months. You will notice some of these holes are normally
the last holes to “green up” in the spring and closing them to carts gives them a fighting
chance during this dormant period. We are also asking everyone using pull carts
(electric or manual) to keep them away from collars and tee tops. This will help reduce
compaction on these areas. As soil temperatures warm to 55 degrees you will see fairway
grass start to “come out” and the hope is the time will be past any threat of frost. Grass

Turkey Tetrazzini

Chicken Tortellini Soup
Preheat oven to 325. Cut a slit down
the center of each pork loin to form
a pocket, being careful not to cut all
the way through. Melt margarine in a
skillet and add the onions and celey;
saute until onions are transparent.
Place herbed stuffing mix in a bowl; add
onions ,celery, dried cranberries and
water. (Add water gradually because
you don’t want to add too much or the
stuffing will be soggy.) Stir to combine.
Spoon stuffing mix into the pockets of
the pork loins. Fold sides up and secure
the seams with toothpicks. (At this point
one of the pork loins can be frozen for
later use, if desired.) Place in a baking
dish that has been sprayed with nonstick spray. Bake for 45 minutes.
To make glaze, combine melted
margarine, apricot preserves and
bourbon. During the last 15 minutes of
baking time spoon the glaze over the
pork loins. Allow pork loins to rest for
10 minutes, remove the toothpicks and
slice to serve. Serves 10.

Brian Small
Jack Bleckley
Lounge Manager
Hunting for the next challenge
For nineteen years, Brian Small has been
behind the bar at Summit Chase. He has
listened and watched as his friend, Don Britt,
has made the decisions and changes that have
turned the club into a social and family success
story. Brian’s input into the lounge gave the
place a comfortable feel where he is able to
host a variety of events to suit the tastes of the
membership.
Aside from the everyday interaction with club
members and the management of his staff of
four, Brian likes to offer fun and unusual beer
and wine tastings. “We have a monthly beer
club that has been going strong for more than
five years,” says Brian. “I order beer flavors that
have something in common and the members
try to guess what the theme is.” In the past,
Brian has ordered for the seasons, combined
tastes from different countries, and featured
local and microbreweries. Each month is a new
taste adventure and a task that Brian looks
forward to marking off his “to do” list.
On his days off, Brian does like to hit a round
of golf, but admits he isn’t a pro. “With a 20
handicap, I’m not going to be giving lessons any
time soon,” laughs Brian. “I do enjoy it.”
As for the club, Brian feels like a member of
the family. “I can’t say enough about Don as a
person,” says Brian. “He is great to work for.”
Brian has watched many changes take place
in the facilities and in the membership over
the years, but he finds the club has never lost
its family atmosphere. “What makes this club
great is the social atmosphere,” says Brian.
“After a tennis match or a round of golf, people
stop in and catch up. It is a place for them to
share their stories.”
The club and the membership are important
to the guy who gives the lounge its personality
and provides unique tastes as well as tried-andtrue favorites. Each week brings new flavors
and new stories that Brian and his staff take
pleasure in hosting in a lounge that offers a
place to relax, unwind, and catch up.
Hunting, fishing, motocross,
lacrosse, and golf are among
Jack Bleckley’s favorite things.
A sophomore at Brookwood
High School, Jack has already
lettered as a varsity golf player
and manages to find time to
pursue his passion of duck
hunting.
Duck Dynasty fever aside,
Jack takes the sport very
seriously. He and his black
lab, Pearl, have been training
for two years. “I throw decoys
for her and she retrieves
them,” says Jack. “We took
her shooting and she is not gun-shy, so I am really happy with how she
turned out.” Pearl has retrieved more than 20 birds so far and shows great
promise as a hunting dog.
Golf runs a close second to Jack’s favorite sport of duck hunting. His
best score at SCCC is a 79 and he considers it to be the best home course
around as a young student athlete. “The course is harder and so it
challenges me,” says Jack. “I like having that course behind me.” Jack has
his sights set on playing golf on a college team and practices with that in
mind. “My grades are pretty good and if I stay on track, then there is no
telling where I could end up.”
According to his mom, Lisa, being open to new opportunities is in Jack’s
nature. “You name it, he has done it!” says Lisa. “He has a knack for
anything sports.”
Jack does like to relax, especially in the summer by the pool at SCCC. Just
like any other kid, Jack likes the food, friends and fun offered at the club.
“The staff is great to me and the food is the best!”
Jack credits his coach, Steve Thompson, for being a big part of his success
in golf. “He is not just a golf coach,” says Jack. “He is also a life coach

who leads me down the right path.” His friends on the team help him
stay focused with a clean mind. “I also like to play golf with the older
members,” says Jack. “I walk with them and learn; it’s really fun.”
As for the future, Jack would like to play golf at Pebble Beach. “I’m not
sure if I would play very well though,” says Jack. “The view is amazing
and would be distracting!” Beyond his dream course, Jack’s plans include
some job that combines his passion for duck hunting and marketing.
“People are crazy over Duck Dynasty, but there really is a larger market
out there and I want to be a part of it.”
