Dear Parents,
7
I hope you all enjoyed this morning’s ‘Walk to School’. It is such a great sight to see the whole school walking
through the village. They certainly created a great storm today dressed in their full super hero outfits. I did feel a bit
of a lemon not being dressed up but am not sure that attending my morning meeting dressed as ‘Wonderman’ would
have gone down well! I will be asking Miss Porter to put the photographs on the screen along with the photographs
from this week’s key sporting events.
Where did that first half term go? Looking back over the ½ term’s newsletters a lot has gone on this year already and
that is before we begin the run down to Christmas. In the first newsletter after half term we will outline the key
school dates for the festive season so have your diaries at the ready.
I hope parent’s evenings have gone well and you feel you have enough information on how your child has settled
into school this term and what their targets are. Please remember if any aspect of your child’s education is
concerning you or you are a little confused about their work please speak to their class teacher who will hopefully
give you all the information that you need to be reassured.
This week I have had the privilege of taking the children to two sporting events. This is the part of the job that I
really miss. On Wednesday I took the children to Colyton Grammar School for the Year 3/4 Axe Valley Cross
Country event. Both teams performed exceptionally well with Harvey Green winning the boys race and Jenny
Patchett coming first and Innes FitzGerald in second place. There were also stunning performances from Kaitlyn
Flannigan (15th), Meisha Parkinson (25th), and Hannah Bedford (30th). Overall the girls finshed in 3rd place missing
out on second by one point. Our boys won the boys team event not only thanks to Harvey but because the boys
performed to such a high standard. Second boy home was Jake Paget (7th), followed by Evan Hourihan (9th), Dylan
Arnold (11th), Roman Moore (28th) and Adam Clinch (47th). Many thanks to the pupils of Colyton Grammar School
and Mrs Harris for being the perfect hosts.
Bicton College was the back drop for yesterday’s Sky ride event. This is a brilliant event and all the children did the
school proud. The course was its usual muddy self with leaves and long grass to add to the challenge of the
undulating course. We are unsure if we qualified for the Devon finals but I will update you all in the coming weeks.
Yesterday’s team was Sam Dormor, Jack Dormor, Ethan Gribble, Darcie Morton, Finn Hourihan, Isla Manville,
James Doulton and Immie Knivett. Many thanks to all the parents that assisted with transport this week we would
not have been able to enter these events without you!
The PTFA have setup a Facebook page to promote the work done by parents, teachers and friends for the benefit of
our pupils. Please search for 'Beer Primary PTFA' and 'Like' our page so that you are the first to know of our upcoming events."
Please can I wish you all a restful half term. On my agenda is a visit to Peppa Pig world with my three year old
daughter Bea. With that thought in mind the theme tune is already circulating through my brain continually!
Thank You Certificates

Beer Late Night Shopping – Friday 5th December
Behind the scenes, lots of preparation is going into organising Beer’s late night shopping evening. More details will
follow nearer the time but we can already say that exciting plans are afoot. The year, Santa will be bringing 2 of his
reindeer and they will be switching the Christmas lights on before heading down to meet the children who visit him
in his grotto. With the grotto in mind, we have a very special request from Santa! He would very much appreciate
donations of Christmas decorations that are in a good condition to help decorate his grotto – these can be handed into
the school office. Also, if any parent could help him coordinating the decorating of the bomb shelter, he would be
very grateful. Finally, it would be useful for Santa to have an idea of numbers as his elves need to be organised!
After half term we will put a list on the office door so that you can express an interest in visiting him.
Zumba
There are currently spaces available for additional children to join the class, which is held in the main school hall at
the following time: Fridays 3.30pm - 4.15pm (3 1/2 - 7 year olds). The cost of each class is £4 per child, with half
termly fees paid upon first lesson.
If you would like to book your child a place, please contact Johanna directly on 07739518587 or at
[email protected] Child Registration and Parent Consent forms are available at the school
reception.
Thank you for your continued support,
