Welcome to Dovercourt SPRING Programs!
Dovercourt recreation association (DRA) is a not-for-profit charitable organization with
the mission of building a healthy, active and engaged community through recreation.
While we are part of the City of Ottawa’s recreation system, DRA is empowered to choose
what programs it runs to meet the community’s needs, and how those programs are
delivered. Our motto is “a community working for the community, une communauté qui
travaille pour la communauté”. Staff, volunteers, clients, local community groups and
businesses working together…that’s Dovercourt!

Kitchissippi is a vibrant, active and cooperative ward, due in no small
part to the vital role that our community centres play in bringing
together neighbours and neighbourhoods. Dovercourt Recreation
Centre continues to be a hub for the community and an important
space for building connections and having those meaningful
interactions that guide and shape our exciting ward. The strength of
Kitchissippi can be found in our communities.
As councillor for Kitchissippi I am very proud of the role that
Dovercourt Recreation Association serves in our ward and of
the unique relationship that it represents between the city and
community.

DID YOU KNOW?
Children who Swim are safer.
Drowning remains the No.
2 cause of accidental death
of children under age 18.
Consequently, it is critical to
establish and teach children
basic safety in, on and
around water. In a water-rich
environment such as Ottawa it
is essential that children learn
to swim.

programs including aquafitness classes.
Recovering from the life-altering
diagnosis of cancer – along with the
treatments it often necessitates – can
leave a significant strain on the body.
Though studies show the benefits of
exercise in more efficient recovery,
decreased pain, and increased
tolerance to treatment, finding a
program fit to your needs – both
emotional and physical– can be easier
said than done.
This Spring, Dovercourt is honoured to
present its first Aquafitness for Cancer
Survivors. Taught by an instructor with
specialized training – and a breast
cancer survivor herself – our aim is to
offer a safe place to recover and renew
the system.
Time

fun for
them!

Multiple registration discounts:
Once you’ve registered for one fitness class at
full price, your second, third and even fourth
class is priced at 50% off. Please note that
Baby-wearing classes are not included in the
multiple registration discounts.
The benefits of aquatic exercise in cancer
recovery are numerous: promoting
more efficient recovery post-surgery,
improved sleep, and increased balance,
to name a few. The natural buoyancy
of the water is also proven to positively
impact the lymphatic system and assist
in venous return, and engages the entire
body in developing and recovering
optimal range of motion.
No two bodies are the same, just as no
two diagnoses are identical. Taught
in a small group setting, this class will
focus on highly individualized training,
tailoring to the specific needs of each
participant, in a compassionate and
empathetic manner.
