Bloomingdale Middle and High School was named an Academic State Champion by Bridge Magazine for 2014. Out of 630 high schools in the state of Michigan, Bloomingdale Middle and High School was ranked 11th based upon the standardized test scores of our 9th and 11th graders over the past three years. Bloomingdale Middle and High School were ranked 5th among all of the schools across the state classified as “rural” schools, and they are the #1 ranked school among all schools in southwest Michigan! Bloomingdale Public Schools was also ranked in the top 6% of school districts (K-12) in the state according to a similar Bridge report, released on February 3, which ranked all school districts in Michigan. To determine the winners, Bridge partnered with Public Sector Consultants, Inc. (the state’s leading public policy research firm) to develop a value-added ranking system which measures a school’s test scores adjusted for student family income, which is often a predictor of academic achievement. Essentially, Bridge’s Academic State Champions are recognized for over-achievement, rather than pure achievement. For a complete list of all Michigan school rankings visit www.bridgemi.com. Congratulations Bloomingdale Public Schools’ students, staff, parents and community members 2014 Academic State Champions! The final from Bloomindale was the Lady Cardinals 45 and the Lady Tigers 53. The girls played a great game and moved the ball very well offensively but came up just short. Brandie Robinson scored 21 points, Jordan McNees 14, Sophia Rodas 4, Heather Davis 2, Chelsea Harrison 2, and Hannah Harris 2. The ladies take on Kalamazoo Christian at Hackett Catholic Prep on Monday night for the first round of Districts. State Qualifiers with Coach Caron: Junior Salinas 125 lbs. Come support the boys as they travel to complete against the division 4 top 16 wrestlers in the state of Michigan. The State Championships will be held March 5th, 6th, and 7th at the Palace of Auburn Hills. GO CARDINALS!! Middle sChool WrestlinG The 2015 Bloomingdale middle school wrestling season has come to an end. Each athlete had awesome individual seasons, but the area they excelled, was improving as an overall team. Our top wrestlers had an amazing season while our novice wrestlers made huge improvements in their skills. Each wrestler showed improvements in their wrestling ability as well as their mental toughness and overall character. The Cardinals had a fantastic season teaming up to win 36 matches! The Team MVP Award goes to 7th grader Carlos Garcia who had a 13-1 record. The Most Improved Wrestler Award goes to 7th grader Charles Seese and the Cardinal Award goes to 8th grader Jacob Hammond. The middle school wrestling team made huge improvements and will continue looking to build and become a bigger and better program. Go Cardinals! The middle school wrestling team is coached by Jesse McDonald and Brian Norman. Varsity Boys BasketBall The Cardinals had a rough stretch with 3 straight games without having a practice. Friday night (2/13) we travelled to Martin where we had a poor start yet a very good finish but it wasn’t enough to get road victory... Tre’Jaun Smith was our leading scorer. On Monday (2/16), we had a make-up game at home with Bangor. This time we had a great start but not close to the finish, we expected and ended up on the wrong side of the game. Austin Martin was our leading scorer. On Tuesday (2/17), Saugatuck came to town and played a very complete game against some pretty tired Cardinals...Austin Martin was our leading scorer. Then Gobles came to The Nest (2/24/15) for our final North Division contest of the season. Competitive game for 3 quarters but the 3rd quarter was our undoing...Tre’Jaun Smith was our leading scorer. The 7th grade Lady Cardinals finished their season with a record of 2 wins and 7 losses. 8th Grade Girls BasketBall The Bloomingdale Middle School eighth grade girls basketball team finished their season this week. They end with a record of two and seven. Not exactly what anyone would call a winning record. But over the course of the season this team made huge strides in every area. The seasons end came at Bangor with a hard fought loss. The girls put a great effort. With only seven players able to play the entire team worked together. It was a two point game going into the last quarter but Bangor was able to string together a few more baskets and end with a 7 point victory. Hailey McCaig, Savannah Ashbrook, and Nallely Gonzalez had their best games of the year. Each of them had multiple steals, solid rebounds, and strong moves to the hoop. Once again Liza Hutchens lead the offense and was very effective on defense. Overall the team did a great job but just came up short. As seasons come and go, often we look to records or statistics to point to the quality of the season. In middle school, improvement is a better judge. Our job is to prepare students for high school; giving them skills to work on, fundamental principles of the game to understand, and confidence to move forward. This group of girls worked very hard in all areas. They were coachable which says a lot about the future of the player. These young ladies have made us proud and are a credit to their families and their parents. Remington Excavating For You.... We have played our toughest part of the schedule over the last two weeks. It all started facing Fennville High School. Fennville is always a tough match up. The Tigers came out of the gate strong posting a 14-8 first quarter lead. Then the bottom fell out in the second quarter as the Blackhawk defense stifled the Tigers taking a 29-16 halftime lead. The Tigers eventually fell to the Blackhawks 50-28. Peyten Austin and Chase Miles led the Tigers with 7 points and 6 points respectfully. Next up was the Hartford Indians. A game that we would really like back. Another touch game for the Tigers dropping a 43-29 decision. Chase Miles led all scorers with 12 points. Our next game was against the Saugatuck Indians. The Indians were ready to avenge a previous season loss to the hands of the Tigers. The Tigers battled hard but couldn’t get the job done. They battled back to close the score to four points in the fourth quarter. Saugatuck out lasted the Tigers to win 45-30. Tyler Stedman led the Tigers with 8 points. Jacob Bolhuis scored 6 points, 7 rebounds and 5 steals. Travis Chandler had 5 points, 6 rebounds and 4 steals. Kaleb Johnson had 5 steals. Tuesday we traveled to Fennville for a rematch with the Blackhawks. Stumbling out of the gate the Tigers spotted the Blackhawks a quick 10 point lead and, the Blackhawks never looked back. The Tigers dropped another game 58-34. Chase Miles led the Tigers with 12 points. Jacob Bolhuis had another solid game notching 6 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals. Travis helped out on the boards notching 5 rebounds. He also had 3 steals. Only three games left. This is a group of hard working young men. They don’t have an ounce of quit in them. Looking ahead the Tigers are working hard to finish the season strong. We will be in Bloomingdale next Tuesday. Friday will be the conference cross over game. This game will be home. Opponent TBD. We will make up our Martin game on March 3. This will be in Martin. Come out and support these young Tigers. Coach Gilbert Play Hard, Play Fair, Play to Win! JV GirLs wrap up season The JV Girls ended their season this week an overall record of 145. They came up short with a loss to a good Schoolcraft team. At times, we played good defense but couldn't get a consistent offense going. Sam Winne ripped down several rebounds. Last week, the ladies beat Otsego. The girls played very well on both ends of the court. This was the best game that they played this season. At one point, the Lady Tigers held Otsego scoreless for a little over a quarter. We had several girls in double digit scoring but along with that the team took control of the boards. I am very proud of these ladies this year on the improvements they made throughout the year. It was a fun season. Good luck as the Varsity continues their season. Coach Davis Gobles Pharmacy 269-628-2814 407 S. State St. In the Village Market Plaza Gobles Insurance Center 203 S.
