ICAR-Directorate of Seed Research XXX Annual Group Meeting AICRP-NSP (Crops), 3-5 April 2015 Organization: Seed, comprising all forms of propagules, is considered the basic and vital input for enhancing of productivity and harnessing higher monetary returns per unit area, time and input.Realising the importance of seed, the Indian Council of Agricultural Research launched the All India Coordinated Research Project on seed the “National Seed Project” in 1979.Based on the overall progress and development of the National Seed Project and growing importance of seed in modern agriculture, ICAR has upgraded the Project Coordinator Unit of National Seed Project to the level of the Project Directorate and named as “Directorate of Seed Research” from December 2004, stationed at Mau (Uttar Pradesh)about 120 KM towards North East of Holy City Varanasi. Institute: Directorate has developed excellent laboratory facilities for Seed Technology, Seed Physiology, Molecular Biology, Seed Pathology and Seed Entomology. All laboratories are well equipped with modern equipments and computer facilities for data documentation, processing and retrieval. DSR has excellent libraryand sophisticated ARIS cell. Laboratory model of processing unit has been installed and functioning. The Institute has a farm of 22 acres for seed production and coordinated yield trials with essential farm machinery, implement shed, threshing floor, glasshouse and greenhouses and big pond has also been constructed for water harvesting/fish rearing. Registration: Registration for annual group meeting will be made on the spot on 3rd April, 2015before the inauguration. Registration fee of Rs. 4000/- will be charged for each invitee. City/weather: Mau (MaunathBhanjan) is situated nearly 90 km eastward from Varanasi and is the powerhouse of textile weavers in Eastern Uttar Pradesh, India. It lies between 83° 17’ to 84° 52' East & 24° 47' to 26°17' North. Weather would be pleasant with minimum and maximum temperature of 22 to 37°C during April month. Sports/fitness: Institute houses spacious playgrounds with necessary facilities for outdoor games and facilities for indoor games. Well-furnished modern gym facility commissioned with weights, AB circle pro-fitness machine, treadmill etc for toning bodyin the campus. Mau is approximately 120 km away from Varanasi, the city of temples. Uttar Pradesh State Transport Corporation (UPSTC) buses are available for arriving Mau. DSR is 12 km away from the Mau city and can be easily reached by auto-rickshaw@ Rs. 200/-. By Rail: Nearest rail station is Mau Junction (MAU) which is 12 km away from Directorate of Seed Research, Kushmaur. Mau Railway junction is well connected with the nearby cities like Varanasi (93 km), Gorakhpur, Lucknow through intercity expresses and other trains. The place is also well connected to metro cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Pune through daily and weekly express trains.
