TechTips for Wampus
TechSmart is a program by the Byram Hills PTSA to provide information, programs and resources to help families navigate
parenting issues related to the internet, media and technology.
February TechTip – Safer Internet Day is February 10.
Take some time to learn a little more about where kids and adults
are spending most of their time – the Internet!
Pause Before You Post – Repeat this mantra to yourself and your kids early and often.
Avoid Oversharing – Public? Private? With Friends? With Everyone? Update your privacy settings and get permission from
others pictured in your post.
Protect Your Identity and Reputation – what you and your kids post today WILL be seen by future colleges, employers,
friends, spouses and maybe voters!
Be Positive – give compliments, help others, promote good digital citizenship.
Communication is one of the most important aspects of parenting in the digital age. Speak regularly with your children
about safe, appropriate and responsible use of technology.

Language-Based Learning Disabilities:
Learn Strategies to Help Support Your Child Presented by
Kirsten Cullen-Sharma, PsyD
NYU Child Study Center
Wednesday, March 4, 7 pm
H.C. Crittenden Middle School
The Byram Hills PTSA and C.H.I.L.D. (Children Having Individual Life Differences)
invite parents to this informative session beginning with a brief overview of languagebased learning disabilities: What is a language-Based Learning Disability? What are
some signs in children?
We will then focus on strategies to help support your children through the challenges
they face at school, at home, and with their peers.
Kirsten Cullen-Sharma, PsyD, is a clinical assistant professor of child and adolescent
psychiatry at the NYU School of Medicine. She is a child psychologist and
neuropsychologist at the Child Study Center who specializes in a whole child
approach through evaluating children’s development and potential, and through
coaching parents and teachers in evidence-based strategies that help children succeed
at home, at school, and in relationships. Her approach is unique as she emphasizes
consistency and integration among caregivers and home and school environments. Dr.
Cullen Sharma has presented locally as well as internationally, written book reviews,
and published in scholarly journals and handbooks.
The Science of Happiness
Wednesday, March 18, 7:30 pm @ Byram Hills H.S.
What are the advantages that happiness has on our pursuit of success?
No matter what your focus is in life, happiness is a key advantage in the pursuit of success. Be it in
athletic competition, academic or creative domains, business or parenting, the science of positive
psychology offers evidence-based and practical strategies for individuals, teams, and families who
strive to realize their potential in both their personal and professional lives.
Come hear Dr. Alan Schlechter and Dan Lerner answer this question and
many more…
In a fun, dynamic, and informative presentation, Dan Lerner and Alan Schlechter will show listeners of
all ages how to integrate positive psychology and performance psychology into their lives so that they
can be the best — and happiest — that they can be.
Dr. Alan Schlechter is a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Child and Adolescent
Psychiatry at the NYU School of Medicine and Director, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Clinic at
Bellevue Hospital Center. His areas of interest are positive psychology and preventive psychiatry.
Dan Lerner has long been fascinated with performance excellence and the realization of unique
potential. As a strengths-based performance coach, teacher, and speaker he works with both
established and high-potential musicians, athletes, and numerous Fortune 500 companies and
executives to leverage the advantage that a healthy psychological state can bring to their performance
both at work and at home.
