TRAIL RUNNING FILM FESTIVAL
Rainshadow Running is planning on another film festival in 2015. This was a very successful series in
2014. Their idea: Trail movies, good beer, great friends. That worked!

WESTERN STATES 100 MILER AID STATION
By Gary Loucks
NEVER TOO EARLY!
Please volunteer to help at the club Michigan Bluff Aid Station for the WS100 Endurance Run. The WS100
starts on Saturday, June 27 in 2015. Our volunteers need to be at Michigan Bluff by 10AM in order to proceed without a pass. The last runner has to be out of the Aid Station by 9:45PM and that’s when we start
packing up to leave, so you can be home on the same day.
Please contact Gary Loucks by phone at 530 870-4627 or email [email protected] if you can help
at this very fun event. We need to send in names to the WS100 group long before the race date. We have a
wonderful reputation for taking care of all the needs of the runners, sometimes before they know what they
need!
Very important: We need T-shirt sizes of all volunteers as you notify us of your intent to be there. Also, any
“No Shows” on event day will have to wear clown shoes in their next race.
“RUNS AND ROSES”
STRC member Rose Asquith took her inaugural run at the San Francisco Bay to Breakers 30 years ago.
This with little training or preparation! Cruising along among that surreal sea of humanity must have had minor appeal for she tucked the experience away for over fifteen years. It wasn’t until the age of 40 that she
incorporated running and cycling into her life. She started with mostly our local 5K’s and 10K’s but ultras
beckoned. She can now be found covering distances up to 100 miles, including a noted marathon accomplishment.
Running enriches her life with much more than fitness and health. The friendships, connection to the
community and fun are also rewards running offers her. She runs with the TRKAC racing team and is
coached by Clyde Lehman. He is the only coach she’s ever had and his training plans have improved her
pace. She now even enjoys speedwork! Basically her training is simple and, other than some workouts with
her team, unstructured. She works out of town where weather is colder, making consistency a challenge.
She runs when she can and when motivated. She said a structured plan would add stress to her life. Meeting up with other runners and her team does help with motivation.
Rose appreciates getting outdoors in our region. Two local trails are her favorites. The Castle Peak Devil
oven loop and the Carr/Feely Glacier Lake loop. After recently running at Bullard’s Bar, she signed up for
the Hotshot Memorial Half Marathon staged there this April!
Rose selects the Cascade Crest 100 in Washington State as her favorite race. It offers adventure and
great views. One section features running a 4 mile train trestle. At another point competitors use ropes to
rappel down a very steep hill. A five mile segment stretches around a lake (dubbed by race organizers as
the “trail from hell”) but she felt it was like running through an enchanted forest. This pathway took at least
two hours to complete! Two other marathons are on her favorites list. She finds the Redding Marathon and
Avenue of the Giants to be nice ones. At Avenue of the Giants she used the walk/run strategy (Jeff Galloway’s method) and found it to work. She discovered the walking segments alleviated the “hot feet” she experiences during road marathons. Avenue of the Giants is the race where she qualified for Boston. Rose
runs the 119th Boston Marathon this spring on April 20th. She is also scheduled to run the San Diego 100 in
the Laguna Mountains on June 6th. On September 25 she will join 299 other runners for the Bear Endurance
100 in Layton, Utah. Her goal for this feat, which includes 22,518 feet of total climb through continuous up
or down terrain, is to come in under 30 hours! STRC wishes Rose much success with these upcoming running challenges and hopes to follow up with her regarding these awe-inspiring runs!

In consideration of your accepting my membership to the Sierra TrailBlazers Running Club (hereinafter called the STRC), I, the
undersigned, intending to be legally bound, hereby for myself, my heirs, executors and administrators, waive and release all rights
and claims for damages I may have against the Road Runners Club of America, the STRC and all sponsors, their representatives,
successors and assigns for any and all injuries suffered by me in any “events” sponsored by the STRC. “Events” are all-inclusive:
meetings, seminars, potlucks, footraces, group training runs, fun runs, group walks and any other gatherings of club and non-club
members for the purpose of promoting a healthy life style. This includes participating as a volunteer in the aforementioned club
events or as a runner/walker.
I know that running and volunteering to work in club events, including races, are potentially hazardous activities. I should not
volunteer or run in club activities unless I am medically able and properly trained. I assume all risks associated with running and
volunteering to work in club races including, but not limited to, falls, contact with other participants, the effects of the weather,
including high heat and/or humidity, the conditions of the roads/trails and traffic on the course, all such risks being known and
appreciated by me.
I agree to hold all the above mentioned organizations harmless, even though any risks may arise out of negligence or carelessness on the part of the persons named in this waiver. I also waive all rights I may have under California Civil Code section 1542,
which provides that a general release does not extend to claims which the releasing party does not know of or suspect to exist.
I grant permission to all of the foregoing to use any photographs, motion pictures, recording or any other record of club events
for any legitimate purpose. As part of this release and waiver, I acknowledge that I have read and understand all of the above.
