work when the school children
are not there, we are waiting for
the right time when there will be

The number of students
who study in the school has
been on the rise recently. The
existing restrooms and hand
wash basins are inadequate to
cater to the sanitation needs
of all the children. This new
development has met with
relief and appreciation from
the staff and the students of
the Corporation school. People
are also glad with the idea of
new and clean restrooms in the
community centre.
Rajan Samuel, Managing
Director of Habitat for Humanity
said, ‘India stands first in
the world in terms of poor
sanitation. So we are aiming to
tie up with the State government
and other corporate companies to
build toilets in schools, community
centres and individual houses.
Hence, the idea to build restrooms

q Cafe to connect bicycle enthusiasts opens at Kotturpuram
JAYANTHI PAWAR
Chennai, Mar 9:
It is one of a kind, so to say. There
are several themed restaurants in
the country, but Ciclo Cafe, the first
bicycle themed restaurant in the
entire country opened recently at
Kotturpuram here and has already
started drawing crowds.
Walls with leather-seat hangings,
tables supported with wheel rims,
chandeliers from cycle chains and
wheels, pictures of cycles on the
wall, a row of bar stools built out of
cycle frames and cycles arranged
in rows is a sight of the lifestyle
store.
The restaurant, can accommodate
70, and has open seating for large
groups, single seats, and places for
families.
News Today caught up with Nidhi
Kapoor Thadani, director, Absoulture Speciality, a restaurant and
service-apartment operator, who
have opened ‘Ciclo Cafe’.
Q: Who was the brainchild behind
the restaurant?
A: It was Arun Alagappan, managing director of TI Cycles idea and
they approached us (Absolute) and
we readily agreed to it.
Q: Why did you choose Chennai?
The owners of Ciclo Cafe
have plans to conduct
among others events
to create awareness on
cycling and also set up a
library
Cycling enthusiasts will be hoping
to connect at ‘Ciclo Cafe’ at
Kotturpuram.
A: Both the companies have a
strong base in Chennai and that was
the major reason for opening the cafe
in the city. Secondly, people always
have a wrong notion that Chennaiites never open up to new things/
ventures. Conversely, the response
has been good in just a week after
it was thrown open. The crowd here

Formula One can be heard drawing
breath this week in readiness for
another year of drama, intrigue and
trepidation, starting with the final
countdown to the season-opening
Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne.
Fewer cars, teams and drivers will

of the sport’s stars is mysteriously

under scrutiny.
After the tumultuous events in 2014

his second drivers world championship from the clutches of Mercedes

‘I just lost focus and began hurrying,

Satyam case: Final

Hyderabad, Mar 9:
A special court here trying the multicrore accounting fraud in erstwhile
Satyam Computer Services Limited
(SCSL) today said it will pronounce
its judgement in the CBI-probed case
on 9 April.
Citing voluminous documents in the
case, Special Judge BVLN Chakravarthi said, ‘On April nine, the judgement will be pronounced. I am making
it very clear.’
‘It is mandate of the Supreme Court
that judgement has to be pronounced.
If any obstruction is caused it is contempt of (apex) court...it is your (accused) duty to bring your advocates.
Court will go ahead with its proceedings,’ he said.
The judge’s observation came as
defence counsels were not present
in the court ostensibly because of
the ongoing agitation of Telangana
advocates, who have been boycotting
courts demanding separate high court
for the new state. ‘April nine will be the
final date for the verdict. No question
of further adjournments. Court will not
wait,’ the judge said.
During the last hearing on December 23, 2014, the court had said it
would pronounce the verdict today.
On the possible reason for pushing
further the judgement date again,
CBI counsel K Surender cited the
voluminous documents of the case
as well as the time needed for ‘typing
the judgement.’

New Delhi, Mar 9 (PTI):
Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani today favoured increased participation

With women scientists comprising
about 20 per cent of the Defence

the Minister said.

Mumbai, Mar 9;
Karnataka batsmen today showed
they were made of sterner stuff as
they battled an inspired Tamilnadu

two of the Ranji Trophy final at the
Wankhede stadium here today.
Resuming at 45 for 4, the defending champions lost the wicket of
Abhimanyu Mithun, who made a

Malolan
Rangarajan.
K L Rahul, who resumed after

es with Karun Nair to steer Karnataka
to safety and in the process took the
score past the moderate Tamilnadu
total of 134.
The Karnataka team total had
moved to 156 for 5 a little after lunch
with Rahul on 42 and Karun on 52.
Earlier yesterday, skipper Vinay
Kumar took five for 34 as defending
champions Karnataka skittled out
Tamilnadu for 134 on the opening
day. The holders wrapped up the
Tamilnadu first innings in 62.4 overs,
just 28 minutes after the tea session.
At stumps, Karnataka were 45 for
four.

Hamilton, Mar 9 (PTI):
He has impressed with his miserly bowling effort in the ongoing
cricket World Cup but seamer Mohit
Sharma says credit also goes to the
new ball bowlers Mohammed Shami
and Umesh Yadav, who have put the
rival batsmen under lot of pressure.
Mohit has got six wickets in four
matches but more importantly has
been among the most economical
of Indian bowlers with an economy
rate of 3.90.
‘The way Shami and Umesh bhai
are bowling, it has helped me a lot.
They have been bowling really well
and have been able to exert a lot
pressure up-front. My job is to maintain that pressure, so that Ashwin
and Jadeja are benefitted from it
later on,’ Mohit said at the pre-match
press conference on the eve of their
match against Ireland.
‘So it helps me a lot that the batsmen are under pressure and my job
then will be to bowl to my strengths
which I have been doing for the last
10 years.’ Mohit has got wickets with
short-pitched deliveries and feels
that a lot of batsmen are taken aback
Mohit Sharma
by the pace of his bouncers.
‘Nobody expects my bouncer to
come so fast because it skids as
well. That’s a plus for me because
my bouncer catches the batsmen off
guard and as a result there will either
a top edge or they will get beaten.
I have been hit for fours and sixes
also off my bouncers but that’s how it
goes,’ said the 23-year-old Haryana
seamer.
The Rohtak-born Mohit agreed that
although they have bowled well as
unit, they do have room for improvement as they are yet to be truly
‘tested’ in slog overs. ‘Well, there’s
no limit to doing well, what we have
to keep in mind is that we have not
yet faced any pressure situation. We
haven’t had to bowl in the slog overs
and there are other things where we
have the scope to do well.’
The youngster also agreed that
Seddon Park being comparatively
much smaller ground than Adelaide
Oval, MCG or the WACA would need
to adjust the length on this ground.
‘There will be a difference in your
thinking when you have to
play in smaller grounds after playing in big grounds
for a long time. You will
have to change your
lines, but we can’t keep
thinking too much about
the size of the ground.
‘It’s the same for both
teams, what we have to
do is concentrate on our
strength and try and do the
best of our abilities,’ Mohit said.
Although he was included after
Ishant Sharma was ruled out, Mohit
said that the time he spent and the
match-time he got at Perth during the
tri-nation ODI series was worthwhile.
Auckland, Mar 9 (AFP):
Pakistan paceman Sohail Khan said
Monday that taking the wicket of South
African master blaster AB de Villiers
would inspire him to greater heights at
the World Cup.
Sohail, who turned 31 on Friday, celebrated his birthday in style a day later
when he dismissed the South Africa
skipper who was threatening to take
the Pool B match away from Pakistan in
Auckland. Sohail produced a back of a
length delivery which de
Villiers edged to wicketkeeper Sarfraz Ahmed to
end a blistering innings of 77.
It was a dismissal that all but
sealed Pakistan’s third
win in five pool matches, leaving South Africa
nine wickets down, before
Pakistan-born No 11 Imran Tahir was last man out as
Misbah-ul-Haq’s side won by
29 runs.
‘He (de Villiers) was taking the match
away, so when I came to bowl with
around 30-odd runs left to defend I
bowled one full length delivery and then
a back of a length and my word, I was
thrilled to see he edged it to the keeper,’
Sohail told AFP.
‘It was a big wicket, the biggest of my
career so far because his is a big name,
the world’s top batsman,’ the seamer
added. ‘That helped us win the game and
we were all delighted with that wicket.’
Sohail said he believed de Villiers’
wicket would act as as a springboard for
further success.
‘Now I have more confidence and I
want a five-for in the next game,’ said
Sohail of Pakistan’s group-stage finale
against Ireland in Adelaide on 15 March.
That game will decide Pakistan’s fate
in Pool B with Ireland, the West Indies
and South Africa also in the hunt for a
quarter-final spot behind already qualified defending champions India.
Sohail, who took five for 55 in the
team’s tournament-opening loss to India,
said Pakistan’s bowlers had performed
with plenty of passion against South
Africa.
‘We bowled as per the plan given to
us by the coach (Waqar Younis) and
the skipper (Misbah) and bowled with a
lot of heart and energy,’ said Sohail who
finished with one for 36 in his five overs.
He added that if the Pakistan attack
maintained that form they would go far
at this World Cup.

Tough to pick between
Australia, NZ: Nabi
The Afghans played the
two frontrunners and World
Cup co-hosts in quick succession and were soundly
beaten both times.
After losing to Australia
by a massive 275 runs
last Wednesday in Perth
they suffered a six-wicket
thrashing by New Zealand
in Napier on Sunday.
‘New Zealand, they’re
quite good. Also Australia,’
Nabi diplomatically said
when asked to rate the two
sides after comprehensively losing to New Zealand by
six wickets.
‘I’m not saying that Australia is the best or New

Waqar clueless about Pak’s
WC record against India
KARACHI:
Pakistan cricket coach
Waqar Younis was clueless for his side’s wretched
losing streak against archrivals India in the World Cup,
but said time spent by the
Men in Blue in Australia before the mega-event could
be one of the reasons.
India defeated Pakistan
by 76 runs at Adelaide
in their opening match of
the ongoing World Cup
and have since won four
games on a trot to qualify
for the quarter-finals. For the
record, Pakistan has lost all
the six encounters against
India in the World Cup.
‘I don’t have an answer
for that (why Pakistan has
failed to beat India in the
World Cup). There were
different eras, different
teams and different pressure situations. I am not trying to give excuses but one
has to understand that India
has been playing in this Australia for the last couple of
months and we just arrived
in Australia. It could be one
of the reasons,’ Waqar told
PTI in an exclusive interaction from Australia.

Vadivel, a former assistant of
director Mysskin is getting ready to
hit the screens soon. The trailer of
the film released recently is getting
a good response from the audience.
The film revolves around the four
cinema technicians who thrives
hard to make their first film.
‘It is an undeniable fact that every other cinema aspirant in Kodambakkam dreams about working
for the stars in their films. This film
is about four youngsters of that kind,
we wanted to express the same in
the trailer. Cinema Industry remembers only the successful person but
it doesn’t want to know the struggles
behind those successful people.
Every artiste has a saturation point
of dreaming about his future. What
happens beyond the point is Kallappadam’, says actor-director J Vadivel.
