Walks are labelled for Difficulty - E, M and H for guidance only. Please contact the
walk Leader - should you require more details.
E – Easy walking, mainly flat, suitable for beginners and those who prefer a
walk at a slower pace.
M – A walk at a moderate pace for regular walkers. There may be stiles and
some significant ascent / descent.
H – A harder walk for experienced walkers. Expect a walk at a faster pace.
Sunday 1 March - Albury All Rounder from Newlands Corner
Meet 10.00 at Newlands Corner (TQ043492) Map for a circular walk via Albury,
Blackheath forest, Farley Green, with a Pub stop at the William IV, Little London. A
pretty walk with some undulations.

Wednesday 4 March - Nicola's Chobham Common Circular Canter
Meet 10.30 at Staple Hill Car Park. This will be a an easy walk. The rough post code is
GU24 8TP Map. Take care though, there are two other car parks along that road. The
Staple Hill Car Park is the middle one on the west side of the road. The other two are
on the east. The walk will go over Chobham Heath through pine trees, with a short
more open section around farm paddocks. Lunch will be at the 4 Horseshoes at
Burrowhill about a mile before the end of the walk. It's a bit pricey, soup and warm
bread is £5.90 mains about £12.00 and a portion of chips £3.00. On the plus side,
muddy boots are welcome.

Meet 9.00 Staines train station for a train transfer to Hampstead Heath Station for a
circular walk. Visiting Kenwood House, outdoor swimming ponds and Hampstead.
Tea/coffee stop a.m. plus pub/picnic lunch stop.

Sunday 8 March - Gently Bentley Walk
Meet 09.00 at Staines Railway Station for a car transfer to Bentley Railway Station
(free parking). Post Code GU10 5JZ (Explorer 144 Grid Ref 793431) Map. This is a
circular walk via Redcap Copse, Binstead, Stubbs Farm and The Straits to Kingsley for
a pub/picnic lunch. After lunch via Kingsley Common, Wheatley Farm, River Hill Farm
and Broadview Farm back to the station. Some ups and downs, but not too hard.

Meet Staines station at 08:30 (note time) for a prompt departure to Blackheath car

Sunday 15 March - Reigate Ramble via Box Hill
Meet 8.30 (note time) at Staines Railway Station for a car transfer to Reigate Heath
for 9.30 start (note time) Explorer 146 TQ239503) Map. For a circular walk taking in
the North Down Way via Boxhill, Betchworth Park, Brockham via Greensand Way.
Lunch stop at Smith & Western Boxhill. Limited places at pub stop for food
being Mothers Day, it may be helpful to bring sandwiches or use the National trust
Café At Box Hill.

Peaslake, Hound House Farm, Ponds Lane and Brook to Little London for a pub/picnic

Saturday 28 March - Gill F's Elstead Walk via Frensham Little Pond
Meet at 9.00 at Staines Railway Station for car transfer to Elstead Village Green.
(Explorer 145 / 907437) Map Parking is limited – if necessary use Thursley Road or
small side road on the left. This is a circular walk mostly through wooded common
and heathland via Frensham Little Pond, Devil’s Jumps, Rushmoor and Thursley Bog
(SSSI). Can be muddy in places. Generally flat but with some uphill and one steep
ascent. Bring refreshments for mid-morning and afternoon stops. Picnic or pub lunch
at The Pride of the Valley at Rushmoor.

Sunday 29 March - Marylyn and Elspeth's Sunday Stroll
Meet 9.30 (note time) at Staines Railway Station for a car transfer to the car park
opposite the Rose and Crown (Explorer 160 /011679, Post code TW20 8QL Map) at
Thorpe Green for a Sunday Stroll via Stroude. A delightful walk across fields,
through woods and up Callow Hill where there will be a coffee stop at the Rose and
Olive Branch pub. Optional pub lunch at Rose and Crown at the end of the walk. Ideal
for newcomers as mostly flat but one hill and can be muddy.

Meet 10.00 by Platform 17 Waterloo Station. Catch bus to Chalk Farm (Please
remember your bus-passes) Walk over the viewpoint to see the ever changing
spectacular London skyline onwards through 4 London Parks via the Grand Union
Canal and Little Venice, stopping along the way at a waterside cafe at lunchtime.

Saturday 18 April - Gill F's Chelsham Walk via the North Downs Way
Meet at 9.00 at Staines Railway Station for car transfer to Chelsham. Map Post Code:
CR6 9PB. (Explorer 146 / 373590) Park alongside the Green near the Bull Inn. This is a
circular walk starting on the Vanguard Way, skirting Woldingham and heading South
to the top of the North Downs, then along the North Downs Way before turning
north at Tatsfield. Undulating with several steep descents and ascents. Good views!
Bring refreshments for mid-morning break. Pub lunch at The Old Ship, Tatsfield.

Saturday 16 May - John G's Spelthorne, Chertsey and Thorpe Riverside Ramble
The walk will start from Staines Leisure Centre at 9.30 Meet at the two small car
parking areas just past the doctors surgery in Burges Way, nearly opposite the main
entrance to the Leisure Centre - as being a Saturday it is reasonably certain that they
should be empty and are free of charge all day. From the start we walk through to
the Thames Path and along to Chertsey Bridge, where we will have coffee, going via
the picturesque Penton Hook Lock. Following a lovely footpath through the back of
Chertsey and across Laleham Golf Club to Thorpe Park. The footpath then meanders

across the back of Thorpe to Staines Hythe, where we will have lunch at the Swan,
before continuing along the Thames Path back to the start. This will be a nice easy 9
miles circular walk and was my first ever walk with Staines Ramblers all those years
ago led by Colin P - so bring along a friend to walk with you.

Saturday 30 May - Elspeth's Local Watery Wraysbury Walk
Meet 10.00 at Staines Railway Station for a walk around some of the local waterways
and byways including the Thames Path, Hythe End, Ankerwycke Priory and the
Heritage Yew Tree, Heron Lake and Church Lammas. Optional pub lunch at the end in
the George in Staines High Street. Ideal for newcomers as all flat but can be muddy.

circular, generally flat walk through a mixture of woodland and farmland via Forest
Green and Ockley. Clay soils sticky in wet weather and be prepared for plenty of

where there is free parking in the area adjacent to the shops. This is a lovely circular

Sunday 14 June - Harmondsworth Great Barn - 800 years history and a new roof
Meet at 9.30 (note time) at Staines Railway Station for a linear (there and back) walk
to visit Harmondsworth Great Tithe Barn via Staines Moor, River Colne,
Harmondsworth Moor (memorial to crashed Canadian bomber). Harmondsworth
Great Barn (free entry): Early 15th century, largest timber-framed building in England
regarded as an outstanding example of medieval carpentry. Used for agricultural
purposes until the 1970s but fell into neglect after it was bought by property
speculators in 2006. Since January 2012 in safe hands of English Heritage. Adjacent
12th Century St. Mary’s Church. This is another chance to see the magnificent barn
after 18 months closure re-tiling the roof. Pub/Picnic lunch.

Monday 15 June - Les H's Historical Magna Carta Walk at Runnymede
Meet at Staines railway station (time to be advised later). We then take a train to
Datchet and walk back to Runnymede alongside the River Thames. View and observe
the event festivities celebrating 800 years since the Magna Carta 15 Jun 1215 Liberties, Rights and Concessions at Runnymede before continuing on to a possible
refreshment stop at the Swan PH by Staines Bridge where the walk will end. Option
to remain at Runnymede. Note: As the official events for the Magna Carta are not yet
finalised it may be likely that the above arrangements may change.

Sunday 21 June - John L's Wimbledon Windmill Wobbly Walk
Meet 10.00 (note time) at the Windmill Cafe car park, Windmill Road off the A210.
(Explorer 161 GR230725, Post Code SW19 5NR). Map This will be a stroll across
Wimbledon Common down through Putney Vale and then along some lesser known
sheep trods and woodland footpaths in Richmond Park. The Roebuck on Richmond
Hill will be visited at lunchtime. Windmill Cafe at the end.

Meet 9.30 at Staines Leisure Centre for a car sharing to the dead end road on the left
at the roundabout just past the French Horn Hotel (over the river bridge - postcode
RG4 6TN) Map on the B478 at Sonning Eye for easy free parking, 10.15 start. A
stunning circular countrified walk across the glorious countryside surrounding
Sonning, with lunch at the hopefully re-opened and re-furbished thatched Bottle and
Glass pub at Binfield Heath otherwise at the Plowden Arms in Shiplake, before
returning back into Sonning via Shiplake wood.

across fields – be prepared for plenty of stiles! Bring refreshments for mid-morning
