Dear Parishioners,
Today we begin the second full week of our Season of Lent. We continue our works of
prayer, fasting and almsgiving as we strive to be renewed in our lives of faith. The
second collection today is for the CAFOD Fast Day that took place on Friday. Thank you
for bringing to this collection all that you were able to save through your fasting. All
that we give will make a tremendous difference to the lives of some of the poorest
people on the face of the earth.
With my prayers and best wishes,
Fr. Jonathan
STATIONS OF THE CROSS: As part of our Lenten journey there will be Stations of the
Cross each Sunday evening at 6pm and then on some weekday mornings at 8.30am.
ROSARY AT OUR LADY OF COVENTRY: Each Friday during Lent at 1.40pm at the
statue in the Priory Gardens a great act of witness to the faith.
JOURNEY IN FAITH: This Tuesday evening at 7.45pm in the presbytery. We will be
considering the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick.
SPONSOR RIO: Thank you to everybody who donated to the collection for Deborah
Bell, Joe Cawley and Tom Morris three of our younger parishioners who will be
traveling to Brazil to work in a poor parish mission outside of the City of Rio. Over £700
was raised. Joe will be taking part in the Coventry Half Marathon today alongside Maria
Bracken and Fr. Mark Crisp for this event. Thank you for sponsoring Joe.
DEANERY VISITATION: The closing meeting of the Deanery Visitation will take place
on 11th March with Mass at 7pm and a feedback from the bishops and delegates of the
Archbishop who visited the parishes. Fr. Jonathan would be grateful if some of our
parishioners could attend this Mass please.
PARISH WEB-SITE: A further reminder to parish groups to submit a brief description
about their activity / ministry as soon as possible for the web-site. We would also like to
include individual faith stories form parishioners. Another great act of witness! Please
contact Johanne Leeming the Parish Secretary or Fr. Jonathan if you are able to submit
something. Have you liked the parish Facebook page? We now have 198 likes –only 2
more and its 200!
WOMEN’S WORLD DAY OF PRAYER: The service takes place at St. James church tile
Hill Lane on Friday 6th March at 7.30pm. Please see the poster in the porch.
THE CHURCH: For quite a long time we have spoken of some major re-ordering and
decoration for our church building. The diocesan art and architecture committee have
recently visited the church and hopefully will submit some drawing for us to consider.
When these are available they will be explained and displayed for everybody to see and
discuss. Your feedback will be important. The plans will include the rehousing of the
font to a permanent position, a new marble altar coming from a redundant diocesan
church and a new lectern and celebrant’s chair.
FOOD BANK: Renewed thanks to everybody who is supporting the local Food bank by
bringing tinned and non-perishable items for the box in church.
THANK YOU: To all those who supported the Irish Night organised by the Parish Youth
Group to raise funds for our Parish Pre-school. The fantastic sum of £1,633.29 was
raised of which £300 has been donated to the young people of the parish to support
their work in Brazil in the summer.
STORAGE SPACE: We have received one kind offer of storage space for books which
will be sent out to or sold to support the Krizevac project in Malawi.
SJV PRE-SCHOOL: The Pre-School will shortly be allocating places for September
2015. Children are welcome from the age of 2 years. There may be some extended
provision available for children in their pre-school year. For more information please
call into pre-school or contact them on 76695329

anybody engaged in social outreach work on behalf of the Church. It will take place on
