2015 Introducing Pastor Scott Hand “My desire is to bring truth to the sons and daughters of God so that we can claim our inheritance as believers, a people lusting for greater intimacy with Jesus and a passion to share His revealed heart with others.” Scott shared this comment as a portion of his personal goal on the resume he delivered to the pastor search committee in December. It fits perfectly with Bethel Grove Church’s purpose as included in our by-laws, “Bethel Grove Church exists for the purpose of striving as individuals to know Jesus Christ and to then make Him and His love known to those around us.” R. Scott Hand and his family come to Bethel Grove Church from Orangeburg, South Carolina, by way of his in-laws home in Conrad. His wife Veridee is the daughter of David and Linda Lee of Conrad. They have five children Abigail (14), Josiah (12), Lydia (9), Selah (6), and Charis (3). Beginning in mid-March Scott will work with Cynthia, alternating Sunday worship and working part-time during the week to help create a seamless transition between pastors. Scott earned an Associate in Arts degree, Magna Cum Laude, from Spartanburg Methodist College; and a Bachelor of Arts degree, Summa Cum Laude, from Charleston Southern University with major in English and minor in history. In 1997 he received his Masters of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. This is the most important Christian season for it is Jesus’ selfless acts that have given us freedom from our sins. It’s a season of hope fulfilled. Prayer Vigil Each year we gather to fill 24 hours with prayer, as a body of believers. Beginning at Noon on Friday, March 27 and running through Noon on Saturday, March 28 you can choose a half hour or hour of time to come to the church and pray. There will be materials available to enhance your worship and prayer time. It will be held in the southwest classroom your “prayer closet” for this year. Palm Sunday PAGE 2 The building committee will now be meeting every Tuesday evening. It’s time for things to start happening! Decisions are being made. An auction is being planned to sell the furnishings and what ever else we can from the sanctuary. Be watching for information on that. If you are interested in saving the east stain glass window talk to Barry and he will direct you to the right people who are heading up that endeavor. If you have any ideas on a fund raiser let Barry or Jim S know we are looking to do many of those things. Chairs have been ordered (Ed note: donations are still being taken.) and hopefully will be here by Easter Sunday. Scott Hand will give the sermon on Palm Sunday at 9 am. Maundy Thursday A Maundy Thursday service will be held at 7 pm on Thursday, April 2. The Seven Last fro Words of Christ will be the focus. Now, more than ever, Bethel Grove Church needs to function as one body. Don’t sit back and be a spectator. We need all our parts working together so we can be whole and effective in light of the many changes we are experiencing. God is our foundation during the midst of change. “God put our bodies together in such a way that even the parts that seem the least important are valuable. He did this to make all parts of the body work together smoothly, with each part caring about the others. If one part of our body hurts, we hurt all over. If one part of our body is honored, the whole body will be happy” (1 Corinthians 12:24-26 practice patience with one another and open our ears to listen. May we be compassionate and show understanding to others. As Cynthia mentioned last week in her sermon, we all have gifts we have been given from God. Together our gifts complete the body of Bethel Grove Church and we are able to be unique as a church, meeting the needs of our community and of this body of believers. Together we are whole, healthy, functional, and productive as a body of Christ. Consider your part and how you are needed in the body and use your gifts to the maximum! Then be amazed at all that we can accomplish together. Blessings, Bethel Grove Elders By Gloria CEV) Let us be supportive of each other, offering praise and thanksgiving to God for all that is accomplished. Let us reach out to help the one who is weak or weary. Let us all work toward the same goal. Through change we have the opportunity to grow stronger in our faith and trust in God as a body of Christ.
