The Middletown Arts Center’s Summer Arts Camp Program Offers:

Children can explore the arts in affordable morning and afternoon sessions that can be joined together for a full day
experience. Campers who enroll in a morning and afternoon camp bring their lunch and enjoy a supervised lunch period
included at no extra charge. All camps also include a one-half hour period for drop off and pick up at no charge.
BEFORE AND AFTER CARE
Before and After Care is available daily starting at 7:00 am and ending at 6:00 pm for $8 per hour. After Care is provided by Club
MAC where children engage in fun and meaningful activities.

BRICKS 4 KIDZ CAMPS

Take your love of building with LEGO® bricks and bring it to another level.
Children explore architecture, engineering, and technology fundamentals
using technic bricks and motors. Bring your imagination and explore fun
and fascinating topics this summer. Creative thinking is encouraged.

Space Adventures Camp (Ages 6+)

Inspired by NASA® and Star Wars®, our Space Adventures Camp is packed
full of models that will make your imagination blast off! Each day, campers
will learn about real-life space exploration and build models related to
the NASA® space program. In addition, the day includes Star Wars theme
group games, challenges and more. Bricks 4 Kidz® Space Adventure camp
provides the spark for imagination and creativity to take off on an adventure
that’s out of this world!
Bricks 4 Girlz Camp (Ages 6+)

Grab your girlfriends and come hang out with us for a girls-only week of
crafting and creating with LEGO® bricks. Introduce your friends to our
“friends” as we get to know LEGO® bricks’ line of girl-themed models. Build
adorable houses, cafés, and beach scenes inspired by LEGO® Friends. We
do lots of other cool things with bricks – from jewelry making and bag
decorating to original brick art. And don’t worry: there are “no boys allowed”.
Mining and Crafting Camp (Ages 6+)

Minecraft is a game about placing blocks to build anything you can imagine.
Now campers can experience the popular world of Minecraft with LEGO®
bricks! Campers face new challenges each day. They must craft shelters
using basic bricks and motorized models and then incorporate key
elements from the Minecraft game such as mobs, critters, and tools. Are
you ready for the challenge?
Amusement Park Fun Camp (Ages 6+)

Get your ticket to ride at Bricks 4 Kidz’s very own LEGO® Amusement Park!
Campers build a new ride each day, learning how to make things spin, turn,
rock & roll. Motorized models maximize the action and fun. Each day
includes carnival-themed games, group challenges, model building and
more.
Model Designer Camp (Ages 6+)

How do LEGO® brick model-designers come up with their ideas? This camp
will explore the creative process of model design. Campers will learn the
function of different LEGO® components and discover how those
components can work together to create all kinds of solid structures and
moving parts. At the completion of camp, each child will have the
opportunity to present his or her own design.

Weaving Workshop: Design It! (Ages 7+)

Tactile. Practical. Creative. There is nothing like weaving on a loom, simple
enough for beginners, with endless room for exploration and creativity.
Campers will learn this ancient craft with a hip modern spin. We will explore
textiles, fibers, fabrics, and yarn and create our own designs. Your creative
hands-on learner will soon be addicted to weaving. Boys and girls alike are
excited by the functionality and aesthetic of weaving. We will create fabric,
functional items and art pieces in this week of discovering the limits of the
loom. Watch out world, here we come! Imagination is the limit.
Weaving Workshop: Build It! (Ages 7+)

In this weaving workshop, students will use found objects, sticks, cardboard,
wood, paper, and whatever we can find to create our own personal looms

curriculum will not overlap with the Design it! workshop curriculum so

Felting and Soft Sculpture

Children will use their little fingers and big imaginations to work colorful
wool and fibers into beautiful creations and sculptures. Students will create
wool, stained glass, and other artworks or cherished toys. Through both
wet felting and needle felting, students will get a taste of wool felting.
ART ADVENTURES WITH

Suggested for Children Ages 4-8

Artistic fun designed to stir the imagination and bring out the creative best
in every child. Each week is different and will include age-appropriate
activities relating to the themes below - children will draw, paint, construct,
and create. Each week will include a variety of materials including
watercolor, acrylic paint, different kinds of clay, pastels, pencils, and craft
materials. Children bring their own snack. *Activities will vary between
morning and afternoon for campers who wish to remain in the art program
full day.

Students will create beautiful artwork using a variety of media and lessons

Learn the ins and outs of what makes a play actually happen! Learn how to
collaborate with an artistic director and manage the production elements of
stage. Get an introduction into set, light, sound, costume, and make up

premiere of this new work will be held in the MAC Theater on August 20!

This professional theatre training program is open to all beginning,
intermediate, and advanced aspiring young performers, ages 7 and up.
Students will engage in theatrical curricular studies focusing on creating a
character, stage presence, script analysis, dance and performance skills,
while learning techniques of auditioning for stage performance. The youth
drama program will meet once a week for 15 weeks. Please note the
program ends with a small theatrical performance.

This cool camp teaches kids some of the hottest hits by their favorite artists
such as Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, Bruno Mars, Adele, and Pink. Campers

This is an exciting, physically active class that fosters listening skills and
focuses on fun singing, dancing, creative movement, and playful

In this lively song writing camp with Miss Sherri, activities include:
collaborative writing, poetry writing, story writing, exploration of song

Introduce children to the thrill of playing in an orchestra ensemble while
refining their musical skills! Under the direction of New Jersey State Youth
Orchestra conductor Katie Gussman, your child will learn to play music in
groups, follow a conductor’s lead, and understand concert etiquette (both
while playing and while listening to others play). Children will be given time
to socialize with other children who are interested in classical music. The
week will end with a short performance for parents. Students must (1)
supply their own instruments and (2) have finished at least 1 year of
instruction while completing Book 1 of a method series.
Chamber Music Ensemble (Grades 6+)

The Chamber ensemble is a small group consisting of string instruments. In
this group, students will learn to perform without the direction of a
conductor, by leading themselves and giving each other cues, while learning
real ensemble skills in the process. We aim to be truly authentic to every
style we approach. While we learn classical music using sheet music, and
aim to decode the poetry of it, we also learn non-classical music as well,
like rock n’ roll, mostly by ear, while learning chords and song structures,
using no sheet music. This camp is a unique experience for students looking
to expand their playing and listening skills. The week will end with a short
performance for parents. Students must (1) supply their own instruments and
(2) have achieved a level of ability equal to Suzuki book 4.

The MAC offers a variety of private lessons, including piano, voice, guitar,

and experienced instructors. Choose half-hour, 45 minute, or 1 hour lessons.

BLACK ROCKET CAMPS
The magic in every camper comes to life as never before when they are
empowered to be as creative as they were all born to be! Black Rocket has
over a decade of experience designing camps in the S.T.E.M. and Digital
Arts fields. Every program is powered by the camper’s innate imagination
and designed to bring their ideas to life in a fun, hands-on, learning
environment. From concept to creation students will demonstrate their masterpiece to the world at the end of each week! All Black Rocket programs
mirror real life experiences and the collaborative nature of the design

Minecraft Designers

If you love the game Minecraft, but always wanted to design your own
characters and buildings for your games this class is for you! Learn the
basics of creating 3-D models using a new software to design your very
own objects, create skins for characters, and import them into your favorite
Minecraft games. To access their project at home students must own a
PC/MAC version of Minecraft. Tablet, phone, and game console version of
Minecraft are not compatible. Parent email address is required to use 3D
modeling software. Students will work in teams for most of the program.
Droids & Bots: R2-D2 to the Roomba (Ages 8-14)

In this cutting edge class you will learn the basics of task robotics including
the assembly process, mechanics, sensors, and sound activation. Each day
will bring a different concept and a new challenge as you build a variety of
different task-oriented robots with a partner. Students will work in pairs or

LEGO® Films & Stop Animation (Ages 8-14)

Make your LEGO® bricks come to life! Bring in your favorite action figures
or LEGO® bricks and create a short film with your friends. Whether you
want to recreate a scene from Star Wars or design a world of your own,
this class brings your dreams to the screen. Students will need to bring in
LEGO® bricks or action figures from home, but all other equipment provided.
Student created films will be available on a password protected website to
share with friends and family. Students will work in pairs or teams for most

Maker Labs: Make Your First 3D Creations (Ages 8-14)

Calling all boys and girls who want to be the designers of the future! In this
class if you can dream it you can make it - create your first action figure,
design custom jewelry, or make a new toy! Using a professional-level
modeling software, kids will sculpt, texture, and render their own 3-D
creation. No prior experience is necessary and 3D designs will be available
on a password protected website to share with friends and family. 3-D
prints are not included, but can be purchased separately through a 3rd
party company. Students will work in teams for most of the program.
Lego YOUniverse: Make Your Own Adventure! (Ages 8-14)

In this LEGO® adventure YOU are the star! Pick your favorite LEGO® genre
or create an alternate universe to create a digital illustrated story. Whether
you want to fight alongside Batman, be part of a Ninjago clan, hang with
Ninja Turtles, or go into space with Bionicle the only requirement is that you
put yourself in the story! All students will end the class with a digital comic
book that can be shared with friends and family on a password protected
website! Students will work in teams for most of the program.

past the basic techniques learned in App Attack or want to jump right in, we
are ready for you! All students will choose from a selection of different
mobile app types and explore more in depth programming concepts.

students do not need to own a smart phone or tablet to take the class.

G2: Girl Gamers Club (Ages 8-14)

Hang out with friends, have fun, and learn key S.T.E.M. skills in this one of a
kind class! Candy Crush, Facebook, and Instagram were all built by people

your own game app! Using a specialized app and game development tool,

Video Game Animation (Ages 8-14)

Take your game design to the next level by creating and animating your own
character sprites, objects, and backgrounds. Start with a name, develop
the character’s personality, signature moves, special powers, and a story
line. Finish with a fully animated character to be used in future games.

The world of the future belongs to…robots! Robotics is one of America’s
fastest growing industries. Learn the fundamentals of motorized
mechanisms and basic design principles in this unique class. Separate
fact from fantasy by designing and building your first robot. After learning
the basic principles of design, students will build prototypes and learn
problem-solving to improve how their robots function in a series of design
challenges! Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program.
