IN THE AREA!
The Middletown Arts Center’s Summer Arts Camp offers creative activities all
summer long in our beautiful, air conditioned facility with our caring and
talented staff. Children can explore the arts in affordable morning and
afternoon sessions that can be joined together to create a full day experience.
Campers who enroll in a morning and afternoon camp bring their lunch and a
supervised lunch period is included. All camps include a one-half hour period
of drop-off and pick-up time at no extra charge.
BEFORE AND AFTER CARE available starting at 7:00 am and ending at 6:00 pm
for $7.00 per hour. After care provided by Club MAC!

The mission of the Middletown Township Cultural and Arts Council, Inc.
(MTCAC), the nonprofit 501(c)3 organization that operates the Middletown
Arts Center, is to enhance the quality of life of all area residents by supporting
and promoting the arts throughout our large, diverse community. The needs of
our community drive our arts program planning.
Please note that Member and Non-member rates relate to membership in the
Middletown Township Cultural and Arts Council. Membership is optional and benefits
of membership are discounted rates on classes, camps, and workshops. The MTCAC

Artistic fun designed to stir the imagination and bring out the creative best in every child.
Each week is different and will include age-appropriate activities relating to the themes
below - children will draw, paint, construct, and create. Each week will include a variety
of materials including watercolor, acrylic paint, different kinds of clay, pastels, pencils, and
craft materials. Children bring their own snack. *Activities will vary between morning and
afternoon for campers who wish to remain in the art program full day.

The Art of Beauty with Elena Vargetto

Learn the tricks of the beauty trade from licensed cosmetologist and certified make-up artist
Elena Vargetto. Students will learn skincare, tasteful makeup application, and learn the
colors that are best for their skin tones. Miss Elena will cover hair care and different easyto-create style options. Tips for the perfect manicure and fashion will also be discussed.
On Friday, students will display what they learned with a mini fashion show! Girls will get a
special makeup kit.

work, improvisational comedy, character study, TV, and film techniques will be taught.
We will also have lots of fun playing drama games that foster creativity, self-expression,

end of week mini performance. Each week is different and students who love theater
are encouraged to sign up for multiple weeks.

This professional theatre training program is open to all beginner, intermediate, and
advanced aspiring young performers, ages 7 and up. Students will engage in theatrical

*The youth drama program will meet once a week for 15 weeks, starting on July 2nd
and culminating with a Fall Festival performance showcase of the Children’s Theatre

dance styles and movement concepts in basic jazz, ballet, tap, and lyrical styles. Each
style is incorporated with exercises that stimulate the imagination and developmental
creativity. Each day the students will work on a center floor warm-up, then advance
to progressions across the floor. We will also explore performance technique, stage
presence, costumes, and makeup. Pack a lunch, 2 snacks, and plenty of water. Please

exploring Pirates, Lassies, the wonderful
silly world of Sponge Bob, and the great
ocean blue! We’ll dive into a treasure
trove of pirate songs, explore bubbles,

about sharks, whales, turtles, and jellyfish.
Through imaginative play, stories, puppets,
and movement, kids will discover a fantastic
underwater world. Grab your pirate hat and

Junk Yard Jammers

Jammers make, shake, strum, and drum
the day away reusing old stuff from
home, making unique one-of-a-kind
percussion instruments. Kids will even
take an old song and re-write it into a
new hit tune!! Kids learn about going
green through re-cycling, re-using and
re-thinking about junk, re-vitalizing it into
NEW cool usable items. Jumping,
dancing, drumming, and singing are just a
few activities jammers will experience at
this totally groovy camp.

NJSYO CAMP
NJSYO Introduction to Orchestra for Strings
Children entering 4th-8th Grades
July 28–August 1 (9:30 am-12:00 pm)
Members $135 Non-Members $150
Introduce children to the thrill of playing in an orchestra ensemble while refining
their musical skills! Under the direction of New Jersey State Youth Orchestra
conductor Katie Gussman, your child will learn to play music in groups, follow a
conductor’s lead, and understand concert etiquette (both while playing and while
listening to others play). Children will be given time to socialize with other children
who are interested in classical music. The week will end with a short performance
for parents. Students must (1) supply their own instruments and (2) have finished at
least 1 year of instruction while completing Book 1 of a method series.

BLACK ROCKET PRODUCTION CAMPS

No prior experience is needed. At the end of each camp, students will be able to access
their work on a password protected website to share with friends and family! All Black
Rocket Production classes are designed to mirror real life experiences and the collaborative
nature of the creative process. Students will work in pair or teams for most of the program.

From R2-D2 to the Roomba. In this cutting
edge class you will learn the basics of task
robotics including the assembly process,
principles of gears, mechanics, sensors,
and sound activation. Each day will bring a
different concept and a new challenge as
you build a variety of different task oriented
robots with a partner.
Combine your two favorite activities: LEGOs
and Video Games! Students will create
your own LEGO universe, characters, and
adventures in an interactive 2-D Video Game.
At the end of the program, students will have
a finished Lego Video Game. Games are only
compatible with PCs - Mac versions can be
created for an additional fee.

Junkyard Inventors

Students will use common, everyday items
to design motorized mechanisms and micro
machines. The program is divided into a
series of challenges where students will
compete to accomplish specific tasks and
goals. Each challenge combines

In this LEGO adventure, YOU are the star!
Pick your favorite LEGO genre or create
an alternative universe to create a digital
illustrated story. Whether you want to fight
alongside Batman, be part of a Ninijago clan,
swashbuckle with pirates, or go into space
with Bionicle, the only requirement is that
you put yourself in the story! All students will
end the class with a digital comic book.
Digital Storytellers

From the Hunger Games to Huckleberry
Finn, humans have always been storytellers.
Whether you like to write, draw, or want to
do it all, students in this class will create
digital stories about a topic they choose.
Rewrite the ending to Star Wars, create an
alternate universe, or write a story about
the town you live in. Learn the key elements
to a story, how to storyboard, and create a
graphic novel and watch as the characters
in your imagination come to life. Students do
not need any prior experience to participate.

class is for you! Learn the basics of creating
3D modeling using a new industry grade
software to design your very own characters
and import them into your favorite Minecraft
games. Students must have Minecraft at
home to import characters.
App Attack! Make Your 1st Game App

Explore the App universe and create your
own mobile application or mobile game!
Students will explore the world of phonebased and tablet applications. In addition
to learning the basics of mobile app design
and games, you will also see firsthand how
the world of App’s publishing functions.

Video Game Odyssey

Unlock the keys to game design by
choosing your own adventure! Unlike any
other Black Rocket game design course,
students in this program will make special
top-down adventure games like Pokemon or

camp is packed full of models that will
make your imagination blast off! Campers
will learn about real-life space exploration
and build models related to the NASA
space program. In addition, the day
includes LEGO Star Wars themed models,
group games, challenges and more.
Put your Chima skills to the test throughout
this camp by racing Speedorz and building
motorized models with LEGO bricks. Does

Model Designer Camp

How do LEGO brick model-designers come
up with their ideas? How do the ideas go
from concept to completion? Come explore
the creative process of model design.
Campers will learn the function of different
LEGO components and discover how those
components can work together to create all
kinds of solid structures and moving parts.
Each child will have the opportunity to
present his or her own design.
Amazing Animals Camp

Learn fascinating facts about the animal
kingdom the Bricks 4 Kidz way. Each day
we will explore interesting and amazing
animals of all kind - funny looking, creepy,
adorable, big and small, slow and fast.
Each day we’ll focus on a “creature of the
day” and then build a colorful model using
LEGO bricks - some will even move!
Bricks 4 Girlz Camp
August 11–15
Grab your girlfriends and join us for a
girls-only week of crafting and creating
with LEGO bricks. Get to know LEGO bricks’
newest line of girl-themed models. Build
adorable houses, cafés, and beach scenes
inspired by LEGO Friends . We do lots of
other cool things with bricks—from jewelry
making to brick art. And don’t worry - there
are “no boys allowed”.
Sports Spectacular Camp

Calling all sport fans… on your mark, get
set, build! Celebrate the summer with cool
models of sports from cycling to soccer,
basketball to gymnastics. Take a break from
the heat and compete indoors to set your
own sports records with our exciting sportsthemed challenges.

Create-A-Cartoon!

Create-A-Cartoon is an amazing way to let your child’s imagination soar while introducing
them to creative writing, art, music, and acting. Young producers work together to dream
up an original story that will be turned into a 2-3 minute mini-cartoon movie. Students
journey through the production process while developing characters, backgrounds, props,
scripts, and music. The class concludes with a red carpet premiere of their cartoon!

The garden is a magical place to learn and grow. Learn about local seasonal
vegetables, herbs, and fruits including where things grow, how things grow, and how we
can enjoy them. Explore the joy and wonder of planning, planting, and taking care of a
small garden through fun, age-appropriate hands on activities. Activities vary daily: arts
and crafts, gardening, problem solving, taste testing, “uncooking” simple recipes. Water, a
hat, and light gardening gloves are recommended for this very special week.
“Uncooking” For Kids
Ages 8-12

Kids who prepare their own food are more likely to eat it. Learn basic kitchen techniques
and how to creatively add fruits, vegetables, greens, and grains to your plate in a
comfortable age-appropriate setting. Practice making great “uncooked” recipes and enjoy
tasting them, too. Recipes and activities vary daily. Taste testing will be included.
A Delicious Rainbow
Ages 4-10

You are what you eat… so why not be as colorful as you can be? Everyone loves color, so
let’s bring more of it into our diets. Learn about fresh produce of a different color, try samples
and explore how food helps us grow up healthfully. Activities are designed to stimulate the
imagination and develop creative ways of bringing more healthy unprocessed foods into our
diet. Taste testing will be included.

Not only is your body amazing…it’s perfect! Learn about basic body systems through fun arts
& crafts and physical activities. Experience your “Five Senses” though age-appropriate
sensory activities. Practice creative, fun movement from various cultures and learn about
healthy habits. Health and happiness are about eating good food, practicing good habits,
thinking good thoughts, and surrounding yourself with good people. (During “Five Senses”
activities, taste testing of “the six tastes” may be included.) All sessions will include a brief
age-appropriate guided meditation. Please pack a beach towel, water, and wear comfortable
clothing.
