In the first of four events to be held this year in the Kendall School of Arts Hall, local performers Sherrie Harris, Rob Llewellyn and Laurie & Penny Orchard will
present a classical concert of well-loved favourites.
Sherrie has a beautiful voice in the coloratura soprano
range, Laurie and Penny will accompany her on piano
as well as featuring some piano duets and it will be a
treat to listen to Rob play the all-too-little heard bassoon.
The ensemble "Camden Haven Camerata" has been
formed especially for this concert, which has been assisted by a grant from the NSW Regional Arts Country
Arts Support Program.
The concert will include pieces by Rossini, Rodrigo,
Mozart, Puccini, Schubert, Telemann and Faber.

Do you think You’re

Art on Display at the
iKew Information centre
The centre is pleased to be able to display in their
gallery the talented works of two of our local artist, one being David Nicholls along with Ailsa another popular artist who has been asked to stay for
a second month. Ailsa depicts in her work both
scenic and animal paintings.
David has focussed on scenes around the Camden
Haven area, so beautifully painted you are sure to
recognise the subject.
As part of Seniors Week the Kendall Community
Centre, with assistance from the
NRMA and supported by a grant provided by
the NSW Government, will host an older driver seminar on Tuesday 17th March starting
at 2pm.
A licence to drive can be one of our most treasured possessions but we sometimes only realise
that when, facing with our senior years, we
foresee the day might come when we are no
longer able or allowed to drive. Our independence hinges on our ability to get ourselves
wherever we want to go when we want to, and
the prospect of being without this "right to
drive" is quite confronting for some people.
The prospect of annual driving tests after the
age of 85 can be daunting. This information
session is designed to help older drivers get
ready, both physically and psychologically for
that future day.
Heidi Novosell from NRMA will present an
hour long seminar titled "Years Ahead Driver
Program" and will answer your questions and
discuss any concerns you may have. It is expected the whole session will take a couple of
hours and will be followed by afternoon tea.
A lot of seniors are passing through at present on
their trek up north. The installation of the “Dump”
for vans outlets has been a draw card.
The grants given have helped with the restoration
of the toilet facilities. The solar panels have reduced our electricity bill dramatically and the updating of the security system is going ahead.
The Reviver, Survivor drop-in at the iKew centre
kept all the volunteers busy over December/
January. The next one will be over Easter break.

The Chronicle has been an integral part of the Kendall and surrounding areas for many years, and it has
provided an important information service to all who
care to read it.
As with other years it is always a gamble to put the
Camden Haven Show on and unfortunately that gamble
didn’t pay off this year. The rain came and a huge portion of the show was cancelled. However, some events
did proceed such as all the pavilion events, the poultry
show, Noah’s Thoroughbred Racing Pigs and the Junior
Rodeo. A big thankyou has to go out to all the volunteers and workers who tried to keep the show going but,
safety comes first.
For all those people who would still like to see some of
the events which were cancelled we would like to advise that we are holding a MINI SHOW WHICH
WILL BE HELD ON 27/28 & 29 MARCH 2015.
Twilight Dressage commences at 5pm on Friday 27th
and on Saturday 28th Show Jumping and Hack show
with an 8.30am start and then on Sunday 29th we have
more Show jumping, Chainsaw Racing, the U Bute Ute
Show and to finish off the weekend we have the Demolition Derby.
So with the hope of good weather and a lovely fine
weekend - come along and see all these fantastic
events, there’s something for everyone to enjoy and
have some fun.

and diminishing advertising revenue and therefore it
is necessary to re-look at the economics of continuing on the same basis.

method of distribution will vary over the next two
months to a more economically efficient program.
Please be assured that, whatever decisions are made,
the Chronicle will always be available for pickup

Camden Haven Physical Culture is now running classes at Kendall Community Centre hall and we
would love you to join us. Physie (also known as Physical Culture) is the perfect combination of movements designed to increase strength, fitness and flexibility. The benefits for your daughter are increased co
-ordination, brain development and confidence.
Physie is a synchronised, team-based sport that’s social and fun and an excellent
low impact dance and aerobic activity. Your local Physie club Camden Haven
Physical Culture Club is run by dedicated teachers who provide classes for all ages
and abilities from pre-schoolers to ladies. Designed with Australian families in
mind, classes start from $5 a week with an annual registration of only $30 for
Mini Groovers and $90 for ages 5 and up. With no expensive costumes
or recital fees, Physie is an affordable way to learn to dance and keep fit
with a touch of glamour and a lot of fun!

Kendall CWA
Kendall Branch CWA have a busy year ahead with many
activities planned.
Every year CWA study a different country and branches
hold an "International Day" where we invite other branches
and our local school to participate. On the 31st March Kendall branch will be celebrating all things Italian and much
discussion was needed! To help with the lunch menu selection Kath and Bronnie brought delicious samples for us to
try (thank you ladies). The guest speaker is organised, also
decorations and importantly Kendall Public School coordinating teacher Mrs Michelle Budai has the children creating their Italian books for judging.
Also figuring largely on the agenda was Election Day 28th
March, where the Kendall CWA ladies will hold a lamington stall at Kendall School of the Arts. Those in the "know"

we are holding the music exchange night on Friday 10th
April instead. So please mark your calendar for that one.
Guest artists on the 10th April will be “Jim and Sue” from
Bonny Hills. It will be fantastic to hear Jim and Sue again.
Jim and Sue have been performing their heartfelt original
songs, and carefully selected covers, together for eight years
now. Their style could be described as acoustic folk, sometimes with a dash of soft rock, sometimes with a hint of
country and blended with their beautiful vocal harmonies.
Jim plays acoustic guitar and sue the djembe and percussion
to accompany their lovely voices.
Local musicians are always encouraged to bring their instrument along and share a couple of songs. And, of course, you
are most welcome to just come and listen to some beautiful
music.

Letters to the Editor ...
I write in regard to the loss of public access to the Kendall Historic town wharf through the Town Green.
Everyone I have thus far spoken with is either completely unaware of this loss and, once aware, are unanimously against it.
The odd few that were aware, are also unanimously
against it ( i.e 100% ).
If time permits before printing, I wonder if the Chronicle could publically shed any light on this matter?

WINNER RETURNS TO KENDALL

The organising committee of the Kendall National Violin Competition has much pleasure in presenting Yejin
Min, the 2014 Winner, in concert at the Kendall School
of Arts on 22 March at 2.00pm.
'Herons Creek Heritage and Tourist Trails committee
are holding an information tour of the Herons Creek
cemetery as part of the 2015 Heritage Festival celebrations promoted by Port Macquarie Hastings Council.
Yejin, one of the leading young Australian violinists,
impressed both the judges and the audience with the
mastery of her instrument and the maturity of her performance. We are very fortunate to have the opportunity of hearing Yejin again at Kendall. She will be accompanied by the outstanding competition pianist,
Jeanell Carrigan.
In preparation for that event we propose to hold a
working bee at the cemetery on 21st March to clean
up the grounds and tidy up unattended grave sites and
with permission of family members, clean memorial
plaques to reveal wording.
We shall be glad of contributions for the afternoon tea
which gives the audience a chance to meet the artists
after the concert.
Members of families who have loved ones buried
there are encouraged to join in the clean up effort on
March 21st to give the cemetery a much needed face
lift.
The competition organisers and the major partner, Forestry Corporation of NSW, will be presenting
the concert on 22nd March at 2 p.m. in the Kendall
School of Arts.

up or in the sharing of your loved one's story we

KENDALL COMMUNITY OP-SHOP REPORT
The Half-Price sale in February was a great success. The racks and
shelves are full again, thanks to continuing donations. There is a
large selection of linen and blankets, so stock up for the approaching winter months. We also have a selection of summer clothing
still available, from children’s wear through to ladies and men’s
apparel. There are lovely soft toys, games, jigsaw puzzles, and on
that stand near the front counter you will find cards for all occasions, stationary, CD’s, and DVD’s. Shoes and handbags are found
in this section of the shop. On display are backpacks, soft sided
carry bags and larger suitcases. If you are not travelling those large
suitcases are handy for storing out of season clothes.
As always the book section is brimming with great reading matter.
Romantic fiction, historical fiction and fact, great novels, biographies, gardening and cook books. There is young adult fiction
and picture books for the younger reader.
You can pick up some great magazines from the rack at the front
counter.
The Kendall Op-Shop Grants night will be held at the Kendall
Services and Citizens Club on Thursday 12th March, commencing at 6 pm followed by refreshments. Grants, Charity Grants,
Sponsorships and Major Project Grants will be announced. All
volunteers and community members are invited to attend. The
Bells of Haven (recipients of a grant last year) will be providing
entertainment. Please come along and see how the money raised
through your support is distributed.
Jackie O’Donoghue has taken on the role of Assistant Volunteer
Co-ordinator. We welcome new volunteers, Jenny Easy, Ingrid
Friend and Elaine Browning.
We cannot accept TV’s, computer monitors, gas heaters etc., there
is a new sign near the front door itemising goods that are unacceptable. Please do not leave listed items as the Op-Shop has to
pay for the removal of these goods.
Due to bags of items being stolen from outside the shop it is also
advisable to drop them off during our open hours if possible.

KENDALL DISTRICT GARDENERS CLUB NEWS
John Carter welcomed some new members to the garden club.
Next month there will be a talk about herbs. In April the club has been invited to have its meeting at Sandra’s
Bamboo Nursery. John handed out his excess dried yeast to those who wanted some. He requested that people return any borrowed garden club books as soon as they can. Suggestions for guest speakers in May, June
and July were invited.
Show and Tell:
Richard showed what appeared to be a pot bound tree which had died as the roots hadn’t been teased out
when the tree had been planted. A plant was identified by Bud. Citrus curl is caused by a leaf mite which can
be sprayed with white oil. A Bunya pine cone was shown and it was stated that the seed actually creates a secondary nut underground. Loan showed some of her magnificent orchids one of which had won first prize at the
Laurieton orchid Show. A working bee will be held at the hall on Tuesday 24 February around 8:30am.
Horticultural speakers are being arranged for a date in July. Bud has some cordylines and a Mexican fern tree
to be dug out by anyone who wants them. Richard has some gutter guard to give away.
This month’s speaker was Paul Mckinley who talked about preparing and presenting fruit and vegetables for
the Camden Haven show scheduled for 22/23 Feb. Paul has been organising the vegie and fruit section of the
show for more than ten years. The judge looks for similar quality to that for vegies you would buy in a store.
The biggest vegetable/fruit is not necessarily the best. When more than one is required, uniformity of size is
important. They should be ripe. Eggs are normally shown in cartons with the pointy end down and should be
uniform in colour and size. Keep an eye on the number of items in the entry, usually it is 3. Try to keep them
blemish free and commercial size. Entries will be received from Friday morning from 8am till about 4:30pm.
Flowers and pot plants must be in by 3pm.
