Hair and Make-up
Hair must be secured in the required style described for your group. All female dancers are required to wear make-up
and we strongly encourage male dancers to as well.

No hoop earrings or jewelry allowed at group pictures, dress rehearsals or recital. Plain stud earrings are fine. Clear
nail polish only. Band-aids should be the clear kind.
Hair
Uniform hairstyles are required for all participants. No bangs allowed on dancers 6 and older. Dancers with short hair
must pull the top portion of their hair away from the face and secure it back. Female students are encouraged to use a
bun mold, but this is not required.

Make-up
All female students ages 1.5 – Adult are required to wear stage makeup at the dress rehearsal and recital.
Younger students only require lipstick, blush, and mascara. Male students are encouraged to wear blush and lip balm.

Costumes
Distribution
Costumes will be distributed to students during class late March and into April. If your child is absent on the day of costume
distribution, you can pick up your costume in the studio office. Students should not wear their costumes, accessories, or
tights outside of recital activates. After the show, you may use your costume however you please.
Accessories
All costume accessories should be clearly marked with the dancer’s first and last name, or initials. Hair accessories must
be securely attached to the dancers head during their performance. This is the guardian’s responsibility. We do not
want accessories falling off dancers during the performance. Ribbons for hair will need to be tied around the bun with
the loose ends hanging down. Hats should fit on the head comfortably so the dancers face can be seen, with bill to the
right if applicable. Other hair accessories should be positioned on the top of the head to the right of the bun. Gloves with
finger holes should be worn on the middle finger. Boot spats may need double sided tape to hold in place.
Alterations
Alterations are occasionally needed for dancers and is the sole responsibility of the student’s parent or guardian. If
alterations are required, please be sure to have them completed prior to the picture day. Do not cross straps on leotards.
Bring straight over the shoulder to the other side and securely attach.
Cover-up
Students are required to wear cover-ups over costumes on picture day during transportation and while backstage and in
the halls at the concert hall. Cover-ups can be an oversized t-shirt, warm-ups, etc. This prevents the costumes from
damage and from the audience seeing the costumes before the dancers perform.

Withdrawal
No refunds will be made if a parent or guardian withdrawals a child from the studio after costumes have been ordered
and prior to the recital. Parents or guardians may pick up purchased costumes at the studio at the time of general costume
distribution and up to 15 days after the performance. Costumes not picked up after 15 days will become property of Epic
Steps.
Costume Care
We HIGHLY recommend that all students write their name on their costumes, shoes, tights, and accessories. Costumes
should be stored in a safe place. Press all costumes prior to the pictures, dress rehearsal and the performance. Hanging
them in the bathroom can work as a steamer if you don’t have one. Tutu netting should be pulled apart one layer at a
time. Please do not wash costumes in your washing machine; dry clean them only (after the recital).
Costume Travel
Place costumes in garment bag for travel. Carry hats in hatbox or container to prevent damage. A large tote or laundry
basket works well to hold all costume items, making transportation easier.
Costume Racks
Clothing racks with wheels can be purchased from stores such as Wal-Mart or Target. If your child has several costumes,
a rack is a smart investment. It keeps the costumes organized, prevents wrinkles, and provides some privacy during
costume changes. Hang costumes on the rack in the order they will be needed in the show.

Group and individual pictures are offered to all of the dancers performing in the 2015 Spring Recital. Skarpness
Photography will visit our studio for a one day photo shoot on Saturday, April 25th. Pictures will be ready for pick up in the
office during the Recital Run Through, May 19th and 21st.
Picture forms will be available at the studio early April. Please take one for every individual picture you plan to
purchase. Complete the form (including payment), and place in an envelope to bring with you on picture day. We
encourage you to have your forms complete before picture day. Space is limited and the schedule will run quickly. Payment
is due at the time of the photo session and made payable to Skarpness Photography. Cash, check and credit card is
accepted. All photo related questions should be directed to Skarpness.
Please arrive to the studio in full costume with hair and make-up complete. Individual photos can be taken at any
time throughout the day. Simply purchase your pictures when you arrive and use form for individual photos. You do not
need to purchase pictures to participate in the group photo.
Group pictures run on the schedule provided. Please meet with your group at the door to the picture room no
later than 5 minutes before your scheduled picture time. We are not able to search for absent participants. It is your
responsibility to be ready and waiting at the door by the time listed for your group.
Even if you do not plan to purchase pictures, we appreciate that your child be in the group photo with his/her class.

Recital Finale
An annual recital favorite! All of our Epic Dancers, ages 3-18, work together in creating an ending finale routine for their
show.
Costume: Last costume they danced in for that particular recital (unless otherwise notified).
Rehearsals: Monday, May 11 and May 18. Attendance required for all participants.
Location: Epic Steps Dance Studio, Studio A (will be split into smaller groups and other studios for a portion of the rehearsal)
Due to the large volume of dancers for this number, rehearsals have been split into groups, divided by the first letter in
the dancer’s last name. Please note, the finale will be performed at the recital together as a whole group.
Last name starts with: A-G
4:30pm-5:30pm (3 and 4 year olds arrive at 4:45pm)
Last name starts with: H-O
5:45pm-6:45pm (3 and 4 year olds arrive at 6:00pm)
Last name starts with: P-Z

Closed rehearsal. One parent per child allowed in auditorium. No children allowed in the auditorium during this rehearsal.

Dress Rehearsal and Recital Check in and Dismissal
All dancers (except for adults and Dance with Me! participants), are required to stay in the dressing area for
the duration of the show. Performers are to meet backstage, prepared and ready 45 minutes before the start
of the show. Younger classes will be assigned class helpers to watch the children during the show. Parents of
younger dancers will need to check in their child with the class helper (Class helpers can easily be identified by
their ES Staff Badge). The general waiting/changing area for our female dancers will be in the little theater at
College Community. This is a female only changing area, no male’s allowed. There will be a coed area for our
male dancers and helpers, as well as a changing room for our senior group. Signs will be posted displaying the
areas dancers will need to meet. Dancers in more than one song (other than the finale) will need assistance
between numbers changing and finding their next group. Parents can arrange this with the class helper,
another helper backstage, or leave the auditorium after each number to help prepare student for the next
song. Unless they’re a class helper or recital volunteer, parents are not allowed backstage for viewing. After
the show is over, students will return to their dressing areas. Please meet your dancer there.

Spring Recital 2015 - Superheroes and Villains
May 30, 2015 at the College Community Concert Hall

Tickets $7.00, ages 12 and younger Free, Reserved Seating, Tickets go on Sale 4/1/15!

Audience seating will open one hour before the show begins.

Performers should be in their dressing area 45 minutes before the start of the show.

The recital will last approximately an hour and a half.

The recital is open to the public. We welcome your friends and family to the event.

If you need to leave the theater during the show, please do so in between dances out of respect to the dancers
and those trying to enjoy the show.

Recital videos will be available for order at the event.
Recital Volunteers and Class Helpers
We couldn’t put on our fabulous shows without the help of our many volunteer parents. The Recital is
an exciting time for the students, thank you to all that help make it happen! The 2015 Recital Volunteer
Sign-up sheet is in the office at the studio. Interested volunteers should sign up for their desired position
there.
To make the show run smoothly, we have several different positions available. Each position will allow
the volunteer to see their dancer perform, if not be with them 100% of the time.
As a thank you for your time, all spring recital volunteers will receive free enrollment for their family,
in the ESDC Summer Performing Group.

costume purchase go to just a one day performance. Join the ESDC Summer
Performing Group and dance your spring recital routine up to 5 more times
this year!! Spring recital participants are invited to perform their dance
routines from Superheroes and Villains with Epic Steps this summer at
various area events. Parades are also included in this fun! Don’t miss out!!
