Directions:
Gardens and Flowerbeds: Apply compost at a
minimum of 2-4 cu ft per 100 sq ft (equivalent
to 1/4” to 1/2” layer on the top of the soil).
Incorporate into the soil by raking, tilling or
digging. Use the higher rate for poorer soils.
Use the lower rate for more fertile soils.
Lawns: Spread 1-2 cu ft per 100 sq ft uniformly
over the area and water in thoroughly.
Container Plants: Use at a rate of 1 part compost
to 6 parts potting soil when planting or repotting.
What is Biodynamic® Agriculture?
Biodynamic agriculture is based on the principles of
Austrian scientist and philosopher Rudolf Steiner,
dating back to the 1920’s (preceding organic
agriculture by 20 years).
Biodynamic agriculture goes above and beyond
avoiding the chemical inputs seen in conventional
agriculture, relating to the ecology. Understanding
and cultivating these “dynamic” forces in nature is
expressed in many ways, ranging from creating a selfsustaining ecosystem on the farm and deciding when
to plant or harvest different crops by the cycle of the
moon, to making herbal preparations to inoculate and

Arctic Humus is 100% pure forest humus. It
is the result of thousands of years of the natural
composting and decomposition of forest products
by a rich diversity of soil organisms. It is
responsibly harvested from select sites in Alaska and
then screened multiple times.
Contents: 1 cubic foot (28.32 liters)
Directions:
Incorporate 2-3 inches or more into the soil for soil
conditioning. Spread a one to two inch layer over
the top of the soil for use as a mulch.

Biodynamic® Compost
Directions:
Mix 1 inch of Arctic Humus into soil to a depth
of 4”-6” or apply 1/4”-1/2” as a mulch or top
dressing on vegetables, flowers, fruits, shrubs, trees
and lawns. Add to potting and planting mixes at
a rate of 10%-20% of the mix. Excellent addition
to compost piles. For compost tea, mix 3-4 cups of
Arctic Humus into 5 gallons of water and aerate
well. Apply as you would any compost tea.
Uses:
This product is intended for use as a soil
amendment or for use in the making of compost
or compost tea. Excellent base for potting soil and
planting mixes. Can be worked into existing soils or
used as a top dressing.
Ingredients: forest humus.

The broadfork is a gardening tool that is widely used in Europe and is growing in popularity in
the US. Broadforks are excellent for breaking open compacted soils deeper than with a rototiller
or a spade. This tool will deeply aerate your soil, increase water percolation, and preserve soil
structure. In comparison, a rototiller pulverizes soil into a fine dust that compacts and hardens
after the first rains. The 12” tines are 2” longer than the main competitor’s broadforks. It is
best to broadcast compost and soil amendments prior to broadforking; as the amendments will
trickle down into the cracks. This is especially useful for rock phosphate, since phosphorus moves
through the soil very slowly.
BUILT TO LAST:
1. The ½” tines are reinforced with ¼” welded steel gussets. These strengthened tines are much
more resistant to bending than most broadfork tines.

Fine Print
• Special orders, drop-shipped items, custom mixes, custom cuts (i.e. greenhouse
poly, shade cloth...etc.), live plants, nursery stock, bargain items, broken bags and
beneficial insects are not returnable or refundable under any circumstances.
• It is also important to note that PVF&GS does not offer a satisfaction
guarantee. Accordingly, we do not accept returns of items that were used as we can’t
resell them as new and/or return them to vendors simply because they didn’t meet
your expectation.
• Our return policy for food processing items is different from our standard return
policy due to hygiene concerns. Even if an item has not been used, if the box has
been opened, we will assess a 15% restocking fee as we must re-sell the item as an
”open box” at a discount.
• Within 30 days of purchase or delivery, whichever the latter, you can return
any (non-perishable) item for a full refund (excluding shipping), provided (1) you
have your receipt (or the corresponding invoice is in your customer record in our
computer) and (2) the product is in unused, like-new condition, with its intact
original packaging.
• Items deemed “defective” (i.e. stopped working and/or broke after a few days) will
need to be inspected by one of our Customer Service staff, who in turn may have to
contact the manufacturer for resolution. Accordingly, we will likely not be able to
come up with a decision on the spot. All defective returns must be complete, clean
and soil-free. Sprayers specifically must be rinsed, drained, dry and free of chemical
smell. Defective units may then be repaired or replaced at the manufacturer’s option.
For products covered under manufacturer’s warranty, please understand that we
must strictly follow the manufacturer guidelines, that we may need to contact them
for warranty claims and that an immediate decision may not always be possible.
3-Day Return Policy for Perishable Merchandise We guarantee the perishable
merchandise we sell (including but not limited to, garlic bulbs, flower bulbs, seed potatoes,
onion transplants...etc.) to be in good, viable condition when we sell them. However,
because these items will deteriorate over time, we expect you to inspect them carefully
upon receipt and plant them without any delay. Should there be any quality problem,
you must notify us within 3 (three) days of your purchase, or delivery, whichever the latter,
to request an exchange or a refund. Beyond 3 days from the date of purchase, or delivery,
whichever the latter, perishable merchandise is not returnable nor refundable under any
circumstances.
Limited Replacement Guarantee for Dormant Bare Root Trees If your dormant
bare-root fruit tree (including potted fig or almond, kiwi vines, and pomegranate)
or nut trees (excluding Pecan), does not leaf out above the graft by May 15th, we
suggest you do a scratch test - checking for green under the bark. If it is brown, the
tree is dead and you should pull it from the ground, take pictures including the roots,
and email them ASAP to [email protected].
Once pictures are received, they will be examined for damage (from rodent,
mechanical...) or root rot. If none is evident, we will issue you a store credit for the
price you paid for that tree (excluding shipping). This store credit is redeemable
toward the purchase of any other bare-root item of your choice the following season.

Dust & Spray to Control the Pests
Sprayers have a wide variety of purposes in the organic garden and orchard
throughout the year. Remember to run water through your sprayer after use to clean
the fine mist nozzles and prevent clogging.
Winter
When fruit trees are dormant, it is common practice to spray trees with an organic
dormant oil to smother pests and a fungicide to prevent disease next year.
Spring
When seedlings sprout, a fine mist spray is the perfect way to water them delicately
and apply organic Liquid Kelp & Liquid Fish.
Summer
Regular applications of compost tea, Liquid Kelp, or Liquid Fish can help meet the
plant’s immediate nutritional needs and increase vigor. Remember, it is best to apply
foliar feedings in the early evening so that the plant leaves do not get scorched by the

Fall
In case of insect infestation, defend your crop with an organic insecticide. Generally

Organic weed control is more than getting on your hands and knees to pull weeds.
We’ve got a whole slew of techniques to get rid of the weeds in your garden.
Any and all of these alternatives to harmful chemicals are worth a try. Remember that
integrated pest management for any pest, including weeds, often requires more than
one method for adequate control.

Corn Gluten Weed Blocker Suppresses germinating weed seeds.
A pre-emergent weed suppressant that inhibits root
formation of germinating seeds in established lawns,
vegetable gardens and flower beds while also acting
as a slow release fertilizer due to its 9% Nitrogen
content. Safe to use around new plants with existing
root systems, and unlike chemical herbicides, is also
harmless to people, pets and groundwater. Must be
applied before weeds germinate. Apply 20-40 lbs/1000
sq ft, or 900-1800 lbs/acre, of lawn or garden in early
spring and again in late summer. If possible, work into the top inch of soil. Water
deeply after application and allow soil to dry (this is important) before watering again.
For perennial beds apply 2-3 lbs per 100 sq ft and thoroughly mix into soil. Can also
be blended with mulch to further suppress weeds. After applying corn gluten, allow
1-4 months before direct seeding. NOTE: While we are continuing to look for a source
of organic corn gluten, we have been unable to locate any so far. Consequently, the corn
gluten we now carry is from “conventional” sources and there is unfortunately no guarantee
that it is free from any GMO corn.

The World Of Films and Mulch
Deprive weeds of sunlight to deprive them of life! All our mulches are
biodegradable and will eventually break down and nourish your soil.
One of our favorite mulches to spread on garden beds is Miracle Mulch, made
from sustainable and renewable coconut shells. It will block light from reaching
weed seeds.

In studies at the University
of California Kearney Ag
Center, tests show that
plants grow better and more
rapidly over reflective mulch than
ones without any mulch. Both harvest yields
and coloring of fruit increased with silver mulch. Silver
mulches reflect sunlight up into the undersides of the canopy thereby
increasing photosynthesis, leading to rapid growth. Mulches in general
also hold temperatures at consistent levels. In another study by the
same group, aphid and whitefly numbers were lower in plants grown
on reflective mulches. Apparently, insects are confused by the amount
of sunlight being reflected up by silver mulch, so they are less likely
to land on these plants. Silver mulch is also effective in weed control
and prevents snails from crawling across the shiny surface. This hybrid
metallized (on one side), polyethlene film is 20% stronger than other
typical low density films. Engineered to be applied silver side up, for
periods of up to 8 weeks depending on environmental conditions.

Keep The Weeds In Check
Alternative Herbicides
Organic herbicides ingredients may include concentrated d- limonene,
clove oil, cinnamon oil, vinegar, citric acid or other botanical oils.
These herbicides are non-selective and non-systemic, meaning any
plant sprayed will be affected, and they kill the above surface foliage
of plants.
Non-Selective Synthetic herbicides can “select” which types
of plants the chemicals will effect. Organic herbicides cannot do
this and so are “non-selective.”
Non-Systemic Synthetic herbicides go into the system of
plants, organic herbicides do not, and so are “non-systemic.”
If you’d like a spray alternative that will burn leaves of weeds, try
one of our organic herbicides, such as Avenger or WeedZap. These
are “non-selective” herbicides which means they will harm any plant
they contact, so make sure you spray only the weeds. And wear your
protective gear.
The herbicides are effective on grassy and broadleafed weed plants, up
to 6 inches tall. Spray enough to coat the weed well.
Weed Zap™ All natural, broad spectrum, nonselective,
contact herbicide that when foliarly applied
“zaps” small broad leaf and grassy weeds.
Best results when applied to actively growing

Avenger Weed Killer Environmentally friendly Avenger Weed Killer is a citrus oil-based
herbicide designed to meet the demands and needs
of gardeners looking for an alternative to synthetic
herbicides or less effective “natural” weed killers.
Use along fences, foundations, sidewalks, walls,
driveways, patios, mulch beds, gravel beds, lawn
and garden preparation, around trees, shrubs
and flowers. Controls most annual and perennial
weeds, both grasses and broadleaf. Complete
coverage is required. Best results are achieved with
a 1:6 ratio, (14% dilution rate). For small scale
users, use 18-20 ounces per gallon. The active
ingredient is 70% d-limonene, a citrus oil
extract that strips away the waxy cuticle
from leaves, causing fast wilting (necrosis),
dehydration and death. Other ingredients
include castor oil and emulsifiers. For best
results, treat weeds 6 inches or smaller.
Larger plants, grasses and perennials may
need repeat applications. Fast acting, with
visible results in 2 hours or less, especially
in warm weather. Highly biodegradable,
dissipates quickly. Takes longer but works
in cool/cloudy conditions (as low as 40º F).
Sprayed areas can be planted within hours.

Weed Flamers
Once a popular technique, “weed flaming” is being revived, with excellent results, for
nontoxic weed control in home gardens as well as commercial row crops, orchards, and
vineyards. Organic growers are excited about flaming because in many cases it works as
well as herbicides, is amazingly cost and labor effective, can be done when fields are too
wet to cultivate and does not bring dormant weed seeds to the surface. Flaming correctly, it uses the searing heat of a specially
designed propane burner to quickly “boil” the water in the cells of the plant. This causes the cell walls to burst. This is usually
accomplished in under 2 seconds, without injury to your crop. Weeds are flamed 1–2 days before crop emergence. Flaming is
highly effective on young, annual weeds. Perennial weeds with taproots or woody stems may require reflaming. Use extreme
caution to prevent injury or fire hazard. Not for use during hot, dry, summer months due to increased fire danger.
Red Dragon Hand-Held Flamers
A great way to eliminate harmful herbicides where children or pets
could be exposed or to quickly de-ice or remove snow from pavement.
Easily assembled. Use for weeding row crops, perennials, trees and
vines, as well as brick paths, sidewalks or driveways. Comes with a
