Hello Tennis Fans:
Given the lovely weather we have had this winter it is hard to believe the outdoor tennis season is just around the corner!
Wychwood continues to be a hotspot for tennis as the waiting list continues to grow. Returning members are advised to return the
applications as soon as possible in order to avoid disappointment. Note that as of this year, a returning member is anyone who was a
member in either 2014 or 2013.
Every year as our club becomes more and more popular, it becomes a challenge to strike that delicate balance between the needs of
the community and the needs of our members as well as an increasingly active membership. This necessitates finding equitable ways
to satisfy the demand for court time, particularly during prime time. Given the high demand for courts during prime time hours, we will
continue to only allow single timeslot bookings, that is, weekdays from 6:20 p.m. to 9:40 p.m. and weekends from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. If
courts aren't in use after the first 40-minute timeslot has passed, doubles players are welcome to stay on for another 40 minutes.
There are currently over 380 people on the wait list so we will be suspending any new additions to the list. We will reassess apprise you
of any changes via the Wychwood website. You may email [email protected] to verify your position on the waiting list.
When the courts thaw out, please note that we will note their condition and determine if and when repairs are needed but this will likely
not happen before late summer. Please see our website for updates.
Looking ahead to the 2015 season, there are a few noteworthy items:
Membership Application Notes:
As the demand for membership at Wychwood Tennis Club continues to grow, our membership process must continue to evolve to best
serve our community. Just a reminder of some important info.
Returning Members: Please note that if you were a member in any of the past 2 years (2014, 2013), you qualify as a returning
member for the 2015 season. That means that if your application is received at the post office box with payment by March 29 th, 2015,
you will be guaranteed membership for the 2015 season.
Waiting List: Introduced in 2012, the Waiting List continues to grow. Once returning members have been given a chance to rejoin, folks
on the waiting list will be offered membership for any remaining spots in the Club. Interested new applicants who opt-in to the waiting list
will be ordered sequentially by the date on which their application was received.
Separate Payments for Membership and Lessons: We will continue to require separate cheque payments for membership and for
lessons. This will allow the membership application to be processed even if you weren't able to get in to the lesson you requested.
To refresh your memory on the membership application process:
th
Returning members whose application is received with payment by mail by March 29 , 2015 will be guaranteed membership. Any new members
who send in their application will have their information put on the Waiting List, unless otherwise indicated on the application form.
th
Beginning March 30 , any available spaces will be offered to the applicants on the Waiting List. All members will be notified by e-mail or phone by
April 6th if their application is accepted.
The cap for adults is 480 (including seniors); there is no cap for juniors or children. This is increased from 460 in 2014.
Please mail your application immediately to increase your odds of joining!
We welcome back our returning staff: Jeff Peer as our Court Supervisor/Assistant Pro, Nancy Huang as Assistant Court Supervisor and
Jaime Estrada as Head Pro. Look to Jeff for court bookings, social doubles, ladder, house league and tournament coordination. He can
also help you find a hitting partner, or someone for a competitive match.
Jaime is your man if you're interested in lessons at any level, for adults or children. See the attached Lesson application Form. You're
given the option to select a 2nd and 3rd choice for lessons in case your 1st choice has filled up. Also enclosed is the Summer Camp
application; The camps are very popular, so get yours in right away. As Assistant Pro, Jeff will also be teaching a number of lessons.
See below for several “Dates to Remember” for the 2015 Season. We'll keep the website calendar updated throughout the summer. We
look forward to seeing you between 10am and 3pm on Opening Day, Saturday April 11th to pick up your shoe tag, re-connect with old
friends and enjoy some refreshments!
This is my first year as President and while the learning curve has been steep everyone has been incredibly helpful and supportive and I
am certain that together, we will continue to make Wychwood Tennis Club a great place.
