This unique show celebrates the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band’s landmark ‘Circle’ album, and how bluegrass, country, and gospel came together as a classic American music form. The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band (NGDB) recorded their flagship release, Will The Circle Be Unbroken, with the biggest names in Bluegrass and Country music, including: Earl Scruggs, Mother Maybelle Carter, Doc Watson, Merle Travis, Roy Acuff, Jimmy Martin and Vassar Clements. NGDB founding member John McEuen and John Carter Cash–son of Johnny Cash and June Carter–will join forces to share the stories and memories from those tireless nights in August 1971, when one of the most iconic records came to life. This multimedia concert event takes audiences down the path of two driving forces in American music, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and The Carter Family. Songs live on stage from the band’s influential past accompany a visual display that includes photos spanning early NGDB history to the ‘Circle’ album under way. Audiences can look forward to performances of songs from Circle albums’ artists (Wildwood Flower, Keep on the Sunnyside, I Am a Pilgrim, Cannonball Rag, Wreck on the Highway, Earl’s Breakdown, and more) as the evening builds toward an emotional culmination with the Carter classic, Will the Circle Be Unbroken. “One of the most important records to come out of Nashville.” – Rolling Stone In addition to being a founding member of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, John McEuen has performed since 1964 with the band and as a solo performer. McEuen has a rich history of creating, producing and preserving original and traditional folk and acoustic music and reaching new audiences. John Carter Cash (son of Johnny Cash and June Carter) will share the Carter Family story with music, narrative, and historic photographs from his personal archives, including what it was like growing up with ‘Grandma Maybelle Carter’, and how A.P. Carter influenced his and his father’s life’s path.
