Giving Care Jay Rezzonico

IN MEMORY OF
HOSPICE FOUNDER
Jay Rezzonico
JAY REZZONICO (1925-2013) was “a
jewel in our community,” according
to Dr. Kim Bauriedel who spoke at
her memorial service.
In addition to serving as a Hospice of Humboldt founder and in
its early years Executive Director,
Jay devoted
her talents and
extraordinary
energies as
the Executive
Director of the
American Cancer Society, and
Director of Volunteers and Director
of Community Affairs at St. Joseph
Hospital.

Making Inspired and Informed Choices as We Age
Hospice offers workshops on
late life options and support
One of the great services Jay provided to Hospice was to oversee
the challenging decision to transition from a volunteer model to
Medicare/MediCal deemed status,
ensuring long-term stability for the
agency.
Once Jay retired in the 1980’s, she
still continued to give to our community as a volunteer and member
of the Boards of Directors for the
American Cancer Society and the
Discovery Thrift Shop, Six Rivers
Planned Parenthood, Hospice of
Humboldt and the Hospice Thrift
Shop, CASA, Vector Health, and
Humboldt Community Breast
Health Project.
Known not only for her quick
wit, executive skill and acumen,
Jay was a charming and elegant
woman who could be relied upon
as a friend by many people. Her
legacy is the development and
strengthening of many local agencies that have made a real difference in people’s lives in Humboldt
County. We will miss her.
WHAT WILL YOU DO when your
parent needs more care than you
can provide? How will your family
know your preferences in end of
life care? Have you thought of the
gift of saying good-bye?
Many of these choices will need to
be made, whether or not plans are
in place for you and your family.
The more you know about late life
choices the more you can be inspired to make satisfying choices.

Finding our Center:
Creating Mandalas as Symbols
of Healing
Mandala means circle: they are often created to depict the circle
of life, the universe, the search for completion, or as a focus of
healing and meditation. With a Mandala as our focus we will
have the opportunity to connect with our center and what radiates from it to compose our own personal universe and circle of
healing.
Saturday, May 11, 1:00-4:00, On the Eve of Mother’s Day
Exploring the Meaning of Motherhood
By noticing the significance of being mothered and mothering in
each of our lives, both actually and in our dreams, we will journey along a pathway of celebrating, grieving, and healing our
experiences of love and loss in this most central relationship.
We will have an
opportunity to
create collage
images of mother,
child, and the
relationship between them.
Saturday, June 15,
1:00-4:00, On the
Eve of Father’s Day
Fatherhood
Lost and
Found
Through the
exploration of our own experience of being fathered, fathering,
or being in relationship with a father, we will have the opportunity to reflect upon the role of fatherhood in our lives. We will
create an image of fatherhood to celebrate, contemplate, notice,
grieve and heal.
This open group meets at Hospice of Humboldt. 2010 Myrtle
Ave., Eureka. A donation of $3-$5 is suggested to cover the cost
of supplies. No artistic experience is necessary and all are
