Model position locator scanning
1. Position scan windows over position locators
Place the semi-transparent circles over the position locators in the camera view
and adjust their size so that they cover the Position Locator Models. Make sure
that the scan area position number corresponds to correct tooth position number.
2. Scan
− Start the scan by clicking can. When the dialog box appears ensure all requested
items are placed in the scanner and click OK.
Note:
− If you either do not have enough position locators or not enough room due to
proximity, to scan all locators at once, you must follow the procedure for multiple
scan sessions for position locators located on pages 13 and 14 of this quick
guide. It is highly recommended that you scan all locators at the same
time to prevent inaccuracies.
− When the scanning is done, the position locator scans and corresponding implant
replicas are visible in the Scan View and a pop up message prompts you to
remove the model and place the resin PIB framework into the scanner with
Position Locators Bridge in place.

Bridge scanning
1. Attach guide pin/s
Attach and cure the guide pin/s securely onto the resin Implant Bridge framework.
Note: If you are scanning a full arch resin framework, you should first secure your
guide pins into the Implant Bridge/Abutment holder and then lute the resin Implant
Bridge framework to the guide pins. This prevents bending or distorting the resin
framework which can cause inaccuracies.
2. Attach bridge position locators
– Attach the appropriate non-engaging bridge position locators to the corresponding
implant seats in the resin Implant Bridge framework using lab screws and a star
tip driver.
– Fasten and secure the guide pin/s and framework firmly to the Implant Bridge/
Abutment holder and secure the holder firmly on the scanner table and place in
the scanner.

1. Position scan windows over position locators
− Once you have loaded the framework into the scanner with the appropriate
position locators attached, click OK to the pop up message requesting that
you insert the PIB framework into the scanner.
− You will automatically be taken to the
next step in the Scan List, “Locators.”
− Arrange the transparent circles in the
camera view so that they cover the three
white circles on the Implant Bridge/
Abutment holder. Also move and resize
the transparent circles that represent the
Position Locator Bridges on the framework, so that they are placed over the
corresponding position locators.
Notes:
− You might need to move the base holder so that it is visible in the camera view,
try to have the three white circles on the Implant Bridge/Abutment holder fully
visible in the camera view when placing the transparent circles.
− If you either do not have enough position locators or not enough room due to
proximity, to scan all locators at once, you must follow the procedure for multiple
scan sessions for position locators located on pages 13 and 14 of this quick guide.
It is highly recommended that you scan all locators at the same time to
prevent inaccuracies.
− If there are more than 3 position locators in the case, only 3 position locators
for the framework need to be scanned (The 2 most posterior and the 1 most
anterior locators) to allow the user to save scanning time. Follow the instruction
for scanning only 3 framework position locators located on page 15 of this
quick guide.

Edit Scan (optional)
1. Holes and Trimming
In the event that your Implant Bridge scan looks like the image
below, and you have holes or missing information in the 3D
image, this is usually due to insufficient or improper spray
coating. You can remove the framework from the scanner and
correct the spray coating issue and rescan, or you can digitally
correct the holes utilizing hole filling.
If this happens, you have a couple of options on how to correct the issue:
− You can remove the framework from the scanner and correct the spray coating
issue and rescan.
− You can utilize the “Edit scan” feature to perform manual hole filling and trimming
to complete the case. Click on “Edit Scan.”
− You will be taken to a new screen like the
one to the right.
In-lab scanning of NobelProcera™ Implant Bridge 11
− Here you can trim away unwanted scan data or fill holes using manual tools.
Smoothing and deformation tools needed for altering the wax-up scans can be
utilized in the CAD portion of the software.
− Refer to the “Mesh Edition Tools” found in the tutorial for instructions on how
to use each tool.
− Once you have completed all necessary Mesh Editing, click OK, and your
changes will be saved and you will be taken back to the Scan Module where
your changes will be visible in the Scan View.
− Now fill in the case Details and choose the product material and shade if
applicable. Once all desired case details are completed click “Finish.”

Tips for successful scanning
Scan Object Handling/Placement Tips:
− Prior to scanning the framework, ensure the screw access holes on the top
side and bottom side of the framework are sealed with wax.
− Prior to scanning the framework, if the framework is not made of a scanable
material, use a CAD spray to coat the framework. Follow the CAD spray manufactures recommendations for application. Do not spray the framework while
mounted in the scanner. Ensure that no spray gets on the Implant Bridge/
Abutment holder as this can cause unwanted detection and inaccuracies.
− Prior to scanning position locators, adjust the holder so that you can see as
much of the conical part of each of the locators as possible from the view
above. This ensures proper capture of enough of the locator information for
proper accuracy of the implant replicas.
− Make sure the Model Locators and the Bridge Locators and the framework are
adjusted to the highest recommended height before scanning. This is done by
placing the holder as high as possible without causing a physical collision with
the Scanner housing.
Note: You may be prompted to raise or lower the holder prior to each scanning phase. For this, follow the on-screen Height validation indicator in the
software for help. See example below:
In-lab scanning of NobelProcera™ Implant Bridge 13
Multiple Scan Sessions for Position Locators:
− To achieve best results, scan all position locators of each type in one session.
e.g. Scan all Model Position Locators at the same time in the same holder
position and scan all Bridge Position Locators at the same time in the same
holder position. Scanning Position Locators in separate steps or in different
holder positions can result in improper/inaccurate acquisition of implant position data leading to a misfitting product. (See possible exceptions below)
− If you do not have enough position locators to scan them all at one time, or if
2 position locators are too close to each other, and they come in contact or
their scan windows overlap, please scan separately following the Multiple
Scan Sessions for position locators below.
− In order to scan position locators in separate sessions, follow these instructions carefully: Prior to clicking Scan, first Disable (by right clicking on the
scan window) the scan window(s) for the missing locator(s). When disabled,
the scan window will change to a clear transparent color, and the word
“Disabled” will appear next to that position locator in the Scan List. Perform
the scan of the first set of locators by clicking Scan. Once you have performed
the scan of the initial group of locators, you can then carefully remove the
scanned locators and place them in the implant replica positions that were not
scanned in the first session. Be extremely careful not to cause your model
to shift in the holder. The slightest movement can cause the implant
bridge not to fit. Also, DO NOT adjust the height of the table at any time
while scanning the position locators. Changing of table height between
locator scan session will result in inaccurate scanning of the implant
replica positions. You must then Enable (by right clicking on the scan window)
the Disabled scan windows, and Disable the already scanned scan windows.
Now click Scan to perform the scan of the second set of locators. It is highly
recommended that you scan all locators at the same time to prevent inaccuracies. Only use this workaround when it is not possible to scan all
locators at the same time.

Scanning Only 3 Framework Position Locators:
− For the Implant Bridge framework, it is only necessary to scan 3 of the bridge
position locators. The fit of the Implant Bridge will be based on the scan of
the model position locators (all model position locators must be scanned.)
Scanning only 3 position locator on the framework saves time (scanning and
labour.) Follow the instructions below:
− You should scan the 2 most posterior position locators, and the 1 most anterior. Disable all but these three locators by disabling (right clicking) on the
scan windows of the other implant locations (the circle turns transparent and
the word Disabled appears next to the position locator text in the Scan List);
or by clicking on the “Advanced settings for Non-engaging locator” icon next
to the corresponding Non-engaging locator in the Scan List, then check the
“Disable scanning” checkbox in the pop-up menu and click OK. Once all locators are disabled except for the 3 you want to scan, click Scan. Once the
3 locators have been successfully scanned, you can select the next scan item
in the Scan List called “Bottom side.” Proceed with the Framework scanning
procedure on page 8 of this quick guide.
Note: All the position locators on the model must be scanned.
