Message From The
CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD
Throughout our
life and our career
we are impacted
by leaders whose
paths we may
cross, or study.
Whether it is
Church leaders,
business leaders,
educators, friends,
or family, all of
them have played
a role in molding
and effecting our
R HE T T FE N D L E Y | C HA I R
lives. Many of us
have been encouraged to pursue a life of success,
which is good, but what if we were to pursue a life
of significance, what is the difference? A life of
success is typically centered on meeting individual
goals and growth. A life of significance is centered
on adding value to others. I believe that success can
be achieved rather quickly, sometimes overnight, but
significance is a process developed over time with
strong moral values and the highest level of integrity,
which creates character and who we are.
“Inherent in a genuine leader is an authentic
desire and commitment to serve others. A real
leader is one who works for the good of people
beside himself.”
– Albert Einstein
Living a life of authenticity, full of good moral
character and pure motives, should be what we all
strive for every day. This will then lead us to making a
significant difference in our community and hopefully
leaving a legacy that future leaders will look up to.
With all of this talk about leadership and living a
life of significance, the Santa Rosa County Chamber of
Commerce is hard at work preparing for the 2nd Annual
Excellence in Business and Leadership Conference,
which will be held on Thursday April 16, 2015. The
conference will be a great opportunity to reflect on
your leadership abilities and prepare you for living a life
of significance. The speakers this year lead by example
and are willing to rise to the challenge of living a life
of character and noble purpose to help add value to
others.
The conference attendance is limited to 300 and is
filling up fast. I have been to many leadership events
and every time I leave with pages of notes that help
me strive to live a life of significance. Please visit www.
ExcellenceInBusinessConference.com and on Facebook:
2015 Excellence In Business and Leadership Conference
for more information, or contact the Santa Rosa County
Chamber at 850-623-2339. Sponsorship opportunities
are still available as well, contact Donna Tucker for
more information.
In closing, remember to “Shop Local” and support
the local businesses of Santa Rosa County and the
surrounding area. The success of our local economy
is dependent upon working together to support and
encourage one another.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
Register Now for Memorial
“Walk to Remember” Children
The Pensacola Chapter of The Compassionate
Friends invites bereaved parents, siblings, relatives
and friends to register now for a “Walk to Remember” Saturday, March 21st, 2015 at 9:00 am.
As the world’s largest self-help bereavement
organization, The Compassionate Friends offers
friendship, understanding, and hope to families
that have experienced the death of a child. There
are more than 650 chapters in the United States,
including all 50 states, Washington DC, Puerto Rico,
and Guam. The local event is patterned after The
Compassionate Friends National Walk to Remember® in Chicago, IL where as many as 1,500 were
expected to participate. Dozens of chapters across
the country are expected to hold a local Walk to
Remember during 2015.
The local Walk will be held at Pensacola State
College Track (Main Campus). Following the Walk,
there will be brief memorial service.
“You do not need to be a member of The Compassionate Friends to join with us and you do not
need to walk the full walk,” says Michelle Knisley.
“We welcome everyone who wants to join hands
and hearts in remembering all children who have
died too soon.”
Anyone interested in walking should call Margarita Vazquez at 850-554-2592, Debbie Zabukovec at
850-516-0810 or Michelle Knisley at 850-712-5841
to receive a registration form. Registration is $20.00
and walkers will receive a special Compassionate
Friends walk T-shirt, as well as a walk bib to record
the names of those being remembered. Participants
are encouraged to seek pledges that will go to the
local chapter to support outreach and chapter
activities.
The Pensacola Chapter meets at Cokesbury United Methodist Church on 9th Ave the second Tuesday of each month at 7:00 pm. For more information, call Margarita Vazquez for more information

afternoon. They divided into groups and, under the guidance and direction of AU staff
members, participated in a series of activities that would challenge them both physically
and mentally. Their last challenge of the day was “The Wall”, an exercise in which class
members must use team work and planning in scaling a vertical wall without the assistance
of hand holds or ropes. After the last member completed the challenge successfully, the
class stenciled LSR 29 inside a smiling heart on the face of the wall and posed for a group
picture.
Class 29 would like to thank the day’s keynote speaker, Karen Aloy, a John Maxwell
Certified Coach, Speaker, and Trainer, who presented a program on Leadership, and the
day’s sponsors, Kim Cato-Chalmers of Gulf Coast Community Bank, Lee Parker’s Affordable
Health Insurance Services, and Howard Young Flooring.

The Santa Rosa County Chamber of Commerce is 78 years old this
year.
We currently have 603 active members, 16.5% of which are based in
Escambia County.
Your Chamber is also the official Tourist & Visitors Information
Center for Central/North Santa Rosa County.
We operate solely on funds received from membership dues and
two annual fundraisers (Leadership Awards & Installation Banquet;
Chamber Golf Classic).
We have two full-time staff persons on payroll.
As per February 16, we have answered 433 phone calls, assisted
175 walk-in visitors, responded to 18 requests for information or
relocation packages, held 9 ribbon cuttings, and signed up 17 new
members. Our website had 2,893 visitors who generated 11,411 page
views.
The most interesting question this month was, “I am new to Pace
Florida. Where is the closest location to purchase kerosene from
a pump to fill you own kerosene fuel can for the winter? Where I
moved from the regular gas stations also had a separate pump station
for kerosene.”

What My Chamber Has Done For Me…..
As I reflect on the 10
years that have gone by
since I joined the Santa
Rosa Chamber, I realize how
fortunate I have been. The
Santa Rosa Chamber with,
its two employee’s, Donna
Tucker and Nicole Frenk,
have been instrumental in the
growth of my business and
being part of this great Santa
Rosa County community. I
used everything they had to
offer such as all networking events, sponsorships and fundraisers to grow the business.
Santa Rosa County Chamber reaches from the North end to the South end of our
County to help business, community and military grow together and make this County
an even better place.
I have the privilege of being an Ambassador for our Chamber and have served on the
Board for over 6 years.
Our Board is comprised of business leaders, community members and military
personnel that make up a very diverse Chamber of likeminded people whose only
interest is to do what is best for our community. The board is a working board that
makes decisions for the betterment of Santa Rosa County as a whole.
I invite you to consider joining Santa Rosa County Chamber and see how you can be
part of this awesome working Chamber that is truly serving others in Business, Military
and last but not least making Santa Rosa County a better place to work and live.
Thank you and God Bless,
Margarita Vazquez-Independent Representative of Primerica

ORIENTATION
Chair: Hardy Eubanks, UBX Financial Freedom, LLC
Dear Parents/Guardians & Community,
Do you remember the adrenaline and thrill of accomplishment when you ran a
race? Do you remember what it feels like to play a sports game with your friends?
Students with disabilities know and want all of these feelings also. Within Santa
Rosa County, students with disabilities participate in a physical education program
known as Adaptive PE. This program allows these students to have the fun and
thrills of PE time with their friends, and they truly enjoy it.
We need your HELP! This event is one that honors our students who have special
needs and allows them a day to shine! We, as a school and community, will host the
fifth annual games. We have united together for this wonderfully motivating event
known as, “Panther Patriot Games, two sides unite.” In order to make this happen,
we are asking for donations from local area businesses and/or personal funds. If
you make a donation of $50.00 or more, your business/personal name will be
placed on the back of each Panther Patriot Games T-shirt, which every student and
staff member attending will have.
This event has gotten bigger each year with nearly 250 students, staff, and
volunteers attending last year. To continue this wonderful and inspiring event,
which we will host here at Milton High School on April 10, 2015, we are going to
need people like you to step up and make a donation or volunteer your time and
expertise. This is going to take all of us working together collaboratively as a
team, but we feel strongly that we can do just that with your love, generosity, and
support! Each and every one of us has been touched by a person with special needs
at some point in our lives, and now it is our time to return the favor!
If you are available to make any form of donation, to volunteer at the event,
or would like more information, please contact Elizabeth Williamson at 983-5600
or [email protected] Thank you in advance for your time and
support of our ESE students.
Sincerely,
Elizabeth Williamson

Your Santa Rosa County Legislative Coalition
made our annual trek to Tallahassee to voice
our concerns and garner support for our small
businesses, industries and manufacturers.
Ray Walker (AT&T), Ed Carson (Chair), Tony
Alexander (Navarre Chamber), Kristen Loera
(Gulf Breeze Chamber), Josie Cotti (Gulf Breeze
Chamber Member) and Donna Tucker (Santa
Rosa Chamber), visited with Sen. Greg Evers,
Rep. Doug Broxson, Rep. Matt Gaetz, Rep. Clay
Ingram and Rep. Mike Hill’s office. Issues addressed were:
Urge support of the elimination of the sales tax on commercial leases, this tax makes
Florida less competitive with other states in attracting and retaining businesses of all
sizes. HB245, by Ahern.
Urge support for the extension or permanent repeal of the sales tax on manufacturing equipment. SB 316, Hukill
FDOT – Pensacola Bay Bridge Replacement project. The funding has been approved
and plans are being finalized but the impact of construction could have an adverse
effect on the businesses in Gulf Breeze. Please urge FDOT to make available Business
interruption Funds available.
Garcon Point Bridge – Pursue all options for bridge and the increasing tolls.
Backflow preventers – The issue was raised about the lack of discretion local utilities have with regard to the statewide requirement that residential and commercial
backflow preventers be installed above grade regardless of the risk of flood or other
considerations. The obvious fix to this “one size fits all” requirement in our area is to
allow the local utility discretion to place it in the ground to avoid the potential of
freezing.
Fire Main Installation – The issue is the requirement that the piping work be done by
a Fire Sprinkler contractor, at a sometimes higher cost, instead of a licensed plumbing
contractor at a lower cost.
Project permits and approvals – The issue is regarding the transferability and/or the
ease of renewals and extensions for permits for projects delayed by external factors
such as declining market or financing opportunities.
Elevator Inspections – The issue is that the Building Official, Fire Marshal and the
State elevator inspector have to sign off on new elevator installations. The requirements of each may be in conflict and cause confusion and delay. Correlating the
requirements or transferring jurisdictions would streamline the process.
In addition the Coalition supported the 2015 Legislative Issues as outlined by the
Santa Rosa County Commission.
