Sacrament of Baptism
Baptisms are celebrated on the 1st Sunday of the
month. Classes are held on
the 2nd & 3rd
Tuesday of each month. Please come by the Parish
Office to register or call for more information.
Reconciliation
The Sacrament of Penance is offered on Saturdays,
from 4:30p.m. to 5:30p.m. or by appointment.
Sacrament of Marriage
Please contact the Parish Office at least (6) six months
prior to your desired wedding date to arrange a
meeting with Father Tony or one of the Deacons. If
you want a Mass, you must call Father Tony.
Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults
Are you a non-Catholic who is interested in joining the
Catholic faith? Are you a baptized Catholic who has
never received the sacraments of 1st Communion and
Confirmation? If your answer is yes to either of
these questions, call the Parish Office.
Sacrament of First Communion
First Communion candidates must be baptized, at least
in the second grade, and have been attending CCE
classes for two full years previous to their receiving
the Sacrament. Adults needing First Communion
should refer to the rite of Christian Initiation of Adults.
Sacrament of Confirmation
Confirmation candidates must have previously
received the Sacraments of Baptism and First
Communion. They must have faithfully attended Life
Teen for at least one full year prior to beginning preparation for the Sacrament (more than three
absences without a valid excuse can alter the process). A
signed form stating that the parent/guardian and the
candidate understand all requirements is also
necessary before the preparation begins. Adults
needing confirmation should refer to the Rite of
Christian initiation of adults.

Dear parish family,
4th Sunday Lent
There is often a time in a long journey when we find the going hard. In our disappointment with our lives, the
darkness seems so real and overwhelming. If we are inclined to feel demoralized at this point in our Lenten journey
or even in the journey of life itself, we are invited by today’s readings to find again the source of new energy and
encouragement. St. Paul announces in the second reading to those who are in danger of losing their way the
astounding truth at the centre of our faith - God’s free gift to a lost world of new life in Christ: our redeemed humanity
is God’s ‘work of art’, we each have our part to play in the realization of God’s great designs.
We hear Jesus saying in this Sundays gospel, “As Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert, so must the Son
of Man be lifted up, so that whoever believes in him may have eternal life” (Jn.3:14). Jesus was referring to the
incident when many Israelites died while crossing the desert due to poisonous snakes. Moses under God’s instruction
made a bronze serpent and put it in a pole so that those bitten by snakes would look at it and be healed (Num. 21:9).
The serpent that kills became the serpent that heals.
This brings us to the cross. The cross that kills becomes the cross that saves and gives life. Jesus, the Son
of Man was lifted up on the cross and died there. The gospel of John makes use of the literary style of double
meaning in using the term “lifted up”. Jesus was not just lifted up on the cross. He was also lifted up to the Father by
His resurrection from the dead. The cross that was the symbol of death became the symbol of life. We may go farther
on our reflection. The suffering that diminishes us may be the same suffering that can magnify us.
We are reminded to lift ourselves to Him for healing and look upon Him with faith, trust and confidence as
always that we may not be weakened by the attacks of the devil to weigh us down, discouraged us that we may falter
in our relationship with God who loves us. Yet our loving God reminds us today that He won’t abandon us even
though we falter in our relationship with Him. “God so loved the world that He gave His only Son that those who
believe in Him my not perish but may have eternal life!”
Even as a world weighed down by the darkness of failure, turned down by selfishness and sin, we must know
that Jesus came from the Father, not ‘to condemn’ but to bring reconciliation and life.
As we take our bearings in the middle of a long journey, we often find new purpose and energy. Reflecting at
this point in our journey of Lent, on the burdens we carry, whatever they may be, can bring us to find again, in a more
personal way, the essential truth of our Christian faith. While embracing our crosses, we are reminded of the cross of
salvation, which lead us to the resurrection.

Muchas veces en el largo caminar de la vida sentimos que nos encontramos con una situación difícil de continuar. En esa
decepción con nuestras vidas, la oscuridad parece tan real y abrumadora. Si nos inclinamos a sentirnos desmoralizados en este
punto de nuestro camino cuaresmal, o incluso en el viaje de la vida misma, estamos invitados por las lecturas de hoy para volver a
encontrar la fuente de nueva energía y aliento. St. Paul anuncia en la segunda lectura a los que están en peligro de perder su
camino, la verdad sorprendente en el centro de nuestra fe - el regalo de Dios a un mundo perdido de la vida nueva en Cristo:
nuestra humanidad redimida es "obra del arte de Dios ', cada uno tenemos nuestro papel de interacción para realizar los grandes
designios de Dios.
Nosotros escuchamos a Jesús diciendo en el evangelio de este domingo, "Y como Moisés levantó la serpiente en el
desierto, así es necesario que el Hijo del Hombre sea levantado, para que todo el que crea en él tenga vida eterna" (Juan 3: 14).
Jesús se refería al incidente en que muchos israelitas murieron mientras cruzaban el desierto debido a las serpientes venenosas.
Moisés bajo la instrucción de Dios hizo una serpiente de bronce y la puso en un poste para que los mordidos por serpientes la
miraran y serian sanados (Num. 21: 9). La serpiente que mata se convirtió en la serpiente que sana.
Esto nos lleva a la cruz. La cruz que mata se convierte en la cruz que salva y da vida. Jesús, el Hijo del hombre fue
levantado en la cruz y murió allí. El evangelio de Juan hace uso del estilo literario de doble sentido en el uso del término
"levantado". Jesús no sólo estaba levantado sobre la cruz. Él también fue levantado al Padre por su resurrección de entre los
muertos. La cruz que era el símbolo de la muerte se convirtió en el símbolo de la vida. Podemos ir más lejos en nuestra reflexión.
El sufrimiento que nos disminuye puede ser el mismo sufrimiento que nos puede engrandecer.
Se nos recuerda levantarnos hacia Él para la sanación y mirar a través de Él con fe, con confianza y confidencia como
siempre, por lo tanto no seremos debilitados por los ataques del enemigo y abrumarnos con desanimo, que podemos fallar en
nuestra relación con Dios que nos ama tanto. Sin embargo, nuestro Dios amoroso nos recuerda hoy que Él no nos abandonará,
aunque fallamos en nuestra relación con Él. "Tanto amó Dios al mundo que dio a su único Hijo para que los que creen en Él no
perezcan, sino que tenga vida eterna!"
A pesar de que el mundo está agobiado por la oscuridad de las frustraciones, cargados por el egoísmo y el pecado,
debemos saber que Jesús vino del Padre, no a "condenar", sino para lograr la reconciliación y la vida.
Al retomar nuestro camino en medio de una larga jornada, a menudo nos encontramos con un nuevo propósito y nueva
energía. Reflexionando en este momento de nuestra jornada de Cuaresma, en las cargas que llevamos, sean las que sean,
podemos encontrar de nuevo, de una manera más personal, la verdadera esencia de nuestra fe cristiana. Mientras abrazamos
nuestras cruces, se nos recuerda de la cruz de la salvación, que nos lleva a la resurrección.

Reception Volunteers Needed…
Would you be interested in donating food for our funeral
receptions? We have three funeral teams that do the
receptions on a rotating basis. You do not have to attend
the reception, but can drop off your donations anytime
before the service. Also, we are in need of volunteers to
help with the receptions following funerals. This ministry
is a true blessing to our parish. If you would like to
donate food or join one of our teams, please contact the
office. Every volunteer does make a difference!!!

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
With the dissipation of the catechumenate’s energy
since almost everyone was born into the Church, Lent
began to be seen more as a preparation to follow the
Passion of Christ with devotion. In the city of Rome,
creative spirits settled on “stational churches” as a way of
keeping the energy flowing. Everyone would be directed
to a certain “station” each day, and the name of that
church provided a theme for the liturgy. So, for example,
on certain Saturdays in Lent, everything centered on the
church of St. Vitale. Now, this poor fellow had been
thrown into a hole and covered in stones at his
martyrdom, so the readings recalled Joseph thrown down
the well by his brothers, and the wicked servants killing
the son of the owner of the vineyard. Gradually, travelers
to Rome noted the celebration and worked it into
liturgical schedules back home. Eventually, calendars
everywhere bore the curious footnote on a Lenten
Saturday: “Station S. Vitale.” This served the priority of
getting ready to hear the Passion fairly well, but was hardly
satisfactory for Lent’s baptismal character. Now, at last, our
liturgy is reorganized to serve the deepest level of our tradition
exceedingly well. Lent, once again, is all about baptism.

Our Resale Shop here at St. Mary’s is in desperate need of
volunteers. Several of our regular volunteers have had to be
taken off of the schedule due to medical issues. The store hours
are 9-11am, and the store is open every day but Thurs. & Sun.
You can pick any day you are able to work. If you are available
