SOFTWARE-UPDATE
Unter der Seite „http://www.kathrein.de“, „Service“, „Software und Downloads“, „Messgeräte“, „MSK 120“
finden Sie zum Messgerät MSK 120 immer die aktuellen servicerelevanten Informationen und Hilfsmittel.
Hierzu zählen die aktuelle Bedienungsanleitung und aktuelle Frequenzlisten, die Update-Software, dazu die
Update-Anleitung und evtl. benötigte Treiber.
Auf dem mitgelieferten USB-Stick befinden sich bereits die Grundeinstellungen und die Kanallisten des
Messgerätes im Auslieferungszustand. Damit ist ein Wiederherstellen von versehentlich gelöschten
Geräteeinstellungen leicht möglich.
Vorbereitung zum Update, Sichern Ihrer persönlichen Setup-Einstellungen:
Bevor Sie nun Ihr MSK 120 mit neuer Software updaten ist es ratsam, Ihre bisher gemachten persönlichen
Einstellungen (Settings) und Kanallisten (Channellist) im Setup-Menü auf dem USB-Stick in das Verzeichnis
„update“ zu speichern:

• „Speichern von Kanaltabellen und Einstellungen auf einem USB-Memory-Stick“.
Danach kann das Software-Update durchgeführt werden, ohne dass Ihre vorherigen Einstellungen dabei
verloren gehen. Die genau Beschreibung finden Sie im Anschluss unter dem Punkt:
• „Bedienung eines Software-Update“.
Nach dem Update sind die zuvor gespeicherten Settings wieder zu laden, siehe unter
• „Setup“, „Service-Menü“, „Update“, „Settings“ (auch die „Channellist“): siehe unter ...
• „Einlesen der im USB-Stick gespeicherten Grundeinstellungen“.
Werkseinstellung
Möchten Sie die Werkseinstellungen wieder herstellen, so laden Sie dazu die auf dem USB-Stick mitgelieferten
Settings (default.set) und die mitgelieferte Sat-Liste (default.lst) wie im folgenden Beschrieben.

Bedienung eines Software-Update:
Legen Sie auf dem USB-Stick einen Verzeichnis-Ordner „update“ per PC an, sofern dieser nicht schon
werksseitig vorhanden ist.
Die von der Serviceseite heruntergeladene Update-Software muss auf den USB-Stick in das Verzeichnis
„update” gespeichert werden.
Hier darf immer nur die aktuell zu ladende Datei (xxxx1.img oder xxxx1.bin oder xxxx1.lst oder xxxx1.set)
enthalten sein. Anschließend den USB-Stick an das ausgeschaltete Messgerät anstecken.
Update der Geräte-Grundsoftware
Während des Update-Vorgangs darf das Messgerät nicht ausgeschaltet werden und der USBStick nicht abgesteckt werden. Hat ein Update-Vorgang nicht funktioniert, so ist der UpdateVorgang normal zu wiederholen.
• Der Update Vorgang für die Grundsoftware (die Application) des Messgerätes wird gestartet durch
Drücken und Festhalten der Taste
und das Betätigen der Taste
.
Jetzt kann kurz die Einblendung „USB memory device mounted” angezeigt werden - das Update startet
automatisch. Dabei sehen Sie ein Fenster „Software Update” mit einem Fortschrittsbalken. Zum Schluss des
Vorgangs startet das Messgerät durch einen automatischen Reset neu.
Update-Spektrumanalyser
• Um den Spectrumanalyser upzudaten (xxxx1.bin) gehen Sie bitte in
das SETUP-Menü, unter \Service menü
\Update
\Spectrum Analyzer
Jetzt startet das Update automatisch. Dabei sehen Sie ein Fenster „Update” mit einem Fortschrittsbalken.
Zum Schluss des Vorgangs startet das Messgerät durch einen automatischen Reset neu.

Update Programmlisten
• Um die Programmlisten upzudaten (z. B. xxxx1.lst) gehen Sie bitte in das SETUP-Menü, unter \Service
menü
\Update
\Channellist
Dabei sehen Sie zuerst ein Fenster „USB-Memory“ und Ihre Verzeichnisse und Dateien auf dem Stick.
Wählen Sie nun mit dem Cursor und der
-Taste die gewünschte Liste aus (z. B. ...Hotbird13.lst). Es
erscheint eine Einblendung „Wait“ und das Update startet automatisch. Zum Schluss des Vorgangs startet
das Messgerät durch einen automatischen Reset neu.
Update Settings
• Um die Settings (vom Benutzer gemachte Setup-Einstellungen) upzudaten (z. B. ...1.set) gehen Sie bitte
in das SETUP-Menü, unter \Service menü
\Update
\Settings
Dabei sehen Sie zuerst ein Fenster „USB-Memory“ und Ihre Verzeichnisse und Dateien auf dem Stick.
Wählen Sie nun mit dem Cursor und der
-Taste die gewünschte Liste aus (z. B. ...Default.set). Es
erscheint eine Einblendung „Please Wait“ und das Update startet automatisch. Zum Schluss des Vorgangs
startet das Messgerät durch einen automatischen Reset neu.
• In einzelnen Fällen kann es mit diversen USB-Sticks vorkommen, dass der USB-Stick nicht gleich erkannt
wird. Dann bitte das Messgerät ausschalten und den USB-Stick abziehen. Nun das Messgerät wieder einschalten, jetzt erst den USB-Stick anstecken. Dabei soll dieser neu erkannt werden.
Jetzt das Messgerät wieder ausschalten und wie oben beschrieben mit dem Update-Vorgang beginnen.

You can always find the latest service-related information and help regarding the MSK 120 satellite meter
at the Website “http://www.kathrein.de”, “Service”, “Software and Downloads”, “Measuring instrument”,
“MSK 120”.
This includes the current operating manual and current frequency lists, the update software with the update
instructions and any drivers that are required.
The basic settings and the channel lists for the satellite meter in the as delivered can be found on the
USB stick supplied. This means that if any of the settings of the satellite meter are inadvertently deleted,
they can easily be restored.
Preparation for an update, back up your personal Setup settings:
Before updating your MSK 120 with new software it is advisable to back up your personal settings
(Settings) and channel lists (Channellist) made using the Setup menu. These are saved on to the USB stick
into the “Update” directory:

After this the software update can be performed without the loss of your previous settings. The detailed
description can be found under the heading:

After performing the update, restore the saved settings, see under
• “Setup”, “Service menu”, “Update”, “Settings” (also the “Channellist”): see under ...
• “Importing the basic settings saved on the USB stick”.
Factory settings
If you wish to restore the factory settings, proceed as follows to load the settings (default.set) and the sat list
(default.lst) supplied on the USB stick.
See under
“Update channel lists” and
“Update settings”.

SOFTWARE UPDATE
Performing a software update:
Plug the USB stick into your PC and create a directory “Update” on it if this was not already created by
the factory.
The update software downloaded from the service page must be saved on to the USB stick into the
directory “Update”.
This must always contain only the actual file to be loaded (xxxx1.img or xxxx1.bin or xxxx1.lst or
xxxx1.set). Then plug the USB stick into the satellite meter when it is switched off.
Updating the basic software of the satellite meter
The satellite meter must not be switched off whilst the update is in progress, nor must the
USB stick be unplugged. If an update operation fails, normally the update operation should be
repeated.
• The update operation for the basic software (the application) of the satellite meter is started by
pressing and holding down the
button and pressing the
button.
Now the message “USB memory device mounted” may be displayed briefly - the update will start
automatically. During the update a “Software Update” window will be displayed, with a progress bar.
At the end of the process the satellite meter is restarted by an automatic reset.
Updating the spectrum analyser
• To update the spectrum analyser (xxxx1.bin) please open
the SETUP menu under \Service menu

Now the update will start automatically. During the update an “Update” window will be displayed, with a
progress bar. At the end of the process the satellite meter is restarted by an automatic reset.

Updating the channel lists
• To update the channel lists (e.g. xxxx1.lst) please open the SETUP menu under \Service menu

Here you will first see a “USB Memory” window and your directories and files on the stick..
Now use the cursor and the
button to select the desired list (e.g. ...Hotbird13.lst). A “Wait” message
will appear, then the update will start automatically. At the end of the process the satellite meter is restarted
by an automatic reset.

• To update the settings (Setup settings performed by the user) (e.g. ...1.set) please open the SETUP
menu under \Service menu

Now use the cursor and the
button to select the desired list (e.g. ...Default.set). A “Please wait”
message will appear, then the update will start automatically. At the end of the process the satellite meter is
restarted by an automatic reset.
• With different types of USB sticks in some cases it may happen that the stick is not detected immediately.
In that case, please switch off the satellite meter and unplug the USB stick. Now switch the satellite meter on
again, and only then insert the USB stick. It should now be detected as new hardware.
Now switch the satellite meter off again and start the update process, proceeding as described above.
