WHAT’S HAPPENING AT LA CASA?
Volunteers in Honor of Cesar Chavez’s Birthday
March 28; 10am-12pm & 2pm-4pm
La Casa/Latino Cultural Center on the Indiana University campus, is looking to bring students together for a
student-led volunteering day within nonprofits throughout the Bloomington community. This is in honor of Cesar
Chavez's birthday and his selfless and philanthropic work to which he dedicated his life. Once we know how many
will be participating, we can then assign locations. We are planning to have two hour volunteer shifts, one from
10:00 am -12:00 pm and a second shift from 2:00 pm - 4:00pm on March 28th. If you or your organization are
interested in doing some volunteer work, please contact Alyssa Luna ([email protected]).

“Surviving and Thriving: Minority Graduate Student Professional Development Series” - Grant Writing

Semester long professionalization workshop series to help minority graduate students face the challenges of
graduate school and to start preparing them for the job market. The Series is a collaboration between Latino
Studies Program, La Casa, Latino Graduate Student Association, and the Emissaries for Diversity (Graduate
School). Each workshop will have a different topic, and will bring together faculty from all over campus.

It's Not So Black and White: Talking Race, From Ferguson to Bloomington
March 26; 7-9pm at IMU (Alumni Hall)
Join us for a campus and community-wide Teach-In that examines the historical roots and current incidences of
state-sanctioned violence against black people in America. Recent tragedies in Ferguson, MO and elsewhere have
led many of us to confront hard realities about the challenges of living in a racially diverse, yet also highly
segregated, society. The Teach-In will feature three speakers, each of whom contributes a powerfully distinct
perspective on the topic. The audience will then have opportunities to engage the speakers with questions and
comments. We hope that you will attend, and encourage your friends, family, neighbors, and co-workers to do so as
well. The event will be livestreamed online.

Themester Internship: “The Nature of Labor on a Changing Planet”

Themester, an initiative of the College of Arts and Sciences, is pleased to announce several undergraduate
internships available for Fall 2015’s Themester “@Work: The Nature of Labor on a Changing Planet.” Internship
duties average about five hours a week. All interns will actively engage the theme by attending and reporting on
Themester events. Other duties include coordinating a Themester event or project and promoting Themester.

Join us for the early insights program for Black and Hispanic students. Morgan Stanley offers current full-time
undergraduate freshmen and sophomores an opportunity to explore the financial services industry and become
familiar with the Firm's business and culture. In our one day workshop, you will gain insight into the recruiting
process, learn resume tips and interviewing techniques, and network with leaders across the Firm. Students
selected for the program will have domestic travel expenses paid to and from our offices in NYC. Participation is

Water Plant Operator

The city of Bloomington is searching for a part-time water plan operator. Through this position the individual will
perform various analytical tests associated with the operation of plant, including pH balance, chlorine, turbidity,
alkalinity, hardness, fluoride, aluminum, chloride, stability index, odor, and microscopic examination. Operate
various types of laboratory equipment, including but not limited to: Spectrophotomer, microscope, distilled water
center, turbidimeter, and titrator. Read and record meter readings and prepare daily reports, make appropriate
adjustments in processing, and record adjustments or changes as required. Applicants should have at least a high
school diploma and a combination of experience. This is an on call position. The salary is $16.83-$17.29/hr. For

design of assigned street improvement projects, intersection safety projects, and bicycle and pedestrian facility
