NPTI(ER): DURGAPUR Press Release One day National Seminar on “Indian Power Sector Sector-Focus on key areas” was conducted by NPTI(ER), N th Ministry of Power, Govt. of India (WB), Durgapur jointly with POSOCO(ERLDC), Kolkata on 11 March 2015 at Gateway Hotel Kolkata. The seminar was inaugurated by Mr. N.S. Nigam, IAS, CMD, WBSEDCL and key key-note note address was delivered by Mr. A.W.K. Langstieh IA&AS, Chairman, DVC. The chief guest of Inaugural function Mr. Nigam, WBSEDCL addressed th the e issues faced by distribution companies, shortage of revenue collection. He told that distribution sector being the main collection counter in long chain of power generation, transmission and distribution system, any short recovery at distribution due to AT&C losses and allowing lesser tariff by regulatory commission results in straining the whole chain. Therefore, it is the need of the hour for cost effective tariff to distribution licensees. In his key-note address, Chairman,, DVC, focused on coal shortage and cost overrun of ongoing projects. He also elaborated in details, the Indian Power Scenario. Chairman DVC also releases the Souvenir of National Seminar and emphasized to address the issues of Ministry of Power to make the power available for all. a The other Guests of honors & distinguished guests Sh. S.K. Das, MD, WBSETCL, Dr. Pijush Pal Roy, Director, CMERI, Dr. S.K. Choudhary, Principal (MS), NPTI , Sh. Jayant Banerjee, ED(OS), WBPDCL, WB Sh. T. K. Banerjee, CEO, BPSCL and Sh. T. Pandey, GM(OS) GM(OS), PGCIL also addressed the Inaugural Session. S The program started with traditional process of lighting of lamp. Sh. A. Singh, Director & Head of Institute, Institute NPTI(Eastern Region) delivered welcome address. Sh. G. Chakraborty, DGM(MO), POSOCO highlighted the theme of seminar.. The program was anchored by Mrs A. Indira, Asstt. Program Director. The Inaugural function ended with vote of thanks offered by Sh. S.K. Srivastava, Program Director of National Seminar. TECHNICAL SESSION The Technical Session I & II were conducted u under the chairmanship of Sh. K. K. Singh, Executive Director (Fuel), DVC & Sh. S.P. Datta, Ex. MD, DPL respectively. In the technical session, Dr. R.K. Yadav, DGM, IPGCL focused on the issues of the economics of power Generation from concept to commissioning and in real time generation. The issues of isolated decisions of regulators and other regulatory or law enforcing bodies such as PAT by BEE disrupts to balance sheet of generation. Sh. U.K. Verma, GM, POSOCO(ERLDC) spoke on the progress ogress and challenges being faced in grid operation, integration of regional grid to national grid. Sh. Rajesh Bhushan, GM(S&M), Coal India Limited discussed the issue of supply of coal to the thermal generating units, Dr. Mohit Ray, discussed the issue of Environmental impact of Electricity generation, generation Sh. S. Banerjee, AGM, POSOCO(ERLDC) delivered a talk on M Method ethod calculation and allocation of total transmission capacity for smooth and economical power flow from surplus to deficit region. Sh. R. Vijay Kumar Kuma PGCIL speaker detailed about use of latest technology in hot line maintenance of HT lines to reduce the losses on account of line maintenance activities. Sh. S.K. Nag, Professor, BCREC stressed the need of FBC boiler to reduce the inefficiency in combustion ion of low volatile an and high ash content Indian coal, methods of theft of energy was also discussed in the seminar by Sh.P.P. Biswas, GM, DPL . Some of the speakers of the seminar highlighted the use of renewable energy in total energy mix.
